??????
3/4 of the day was spent with Arias forgetting what she said and having to read it over. It fits with her ability to lie but her inability to remember the details when they are out of linear order.
It looked bad.:twocents: (esp after her word soup... lie litanies for the past 8 days)
A lot of people criticized Juan for being somewhat disorganized in his line of questioning. It struck me as such last night as well.
But your comment revealed something to me. I think this non-linear line of questioning is very intentional. That seems evident in the severe way he tripped her up yesterday.
I think Juan knows that Jodi is an exceptional and gifted liar who (unlike Casey) can construct very intelligent an well thought out lies *very* quickly on her toes *IF* and only if she can see where the *ultimate* accusation is heading. Otherwise, you can see she stumbles over her answer when she knows she's not sure what the ultimate point is and she's very hesitant to *commit* herself to an answer - which is a telling sign that her answer is purely conditional and NOT based on the truth.
We saw yesterday her frustrated look of confusion as she would stall on an answer because she knew Juan had an agenda she couldn't see past and she was very leery of the answer she was committing to.
The reason why she can't see past his agenda is because she has her LIE memorized as a chronological story. She had her script with Nurmi memorized as a chronology - it may have appeared to flow out of order to give the appearances of having validity but in reality she knew what day every question would be asked and had already memorized the flow of answers. We saw this when she would pause and wait on Nurmi. So her direct examination was still based on her memory of chronology.
**Why is this important? Because its the way the brain works when we are lying. Lying is very complicated so we need chronology to help us keep the details straight as we play the story out in our heads and fill in the blanks with fabricated details. Essentially lying requires one to "comport the facts to the evidence" as Jodi herself testified. On the flip side when you are telling the TRUTH you do not need the aid of chronology because the facts ate the facts are the facts, whether you tell them forward, backwards, or out of order. The answer would always be the same at any singled out point in time.
Juan knows this. So he is stripping the advantage of chronology from Jodi's toolbox and his "disorganized" attack is throwing her off his trail. She can't predict where he's headed so she's screwing up her answers and displaying her lack of confidence in her own account of things.
Jmo, but I truly think Juan is being very intentional about this approach.
I think I want to have his love child. (j/k)
