I was wondering about whether he was shot first then stabbed but then thought would there be blood splatter like that after he was shot? :waitasec:

If the shot did not kill him then his heart would still be pumping blood.

As long as his heart is still pumping a stab or puncture of some kind will result in blood splatter.

It's clear from the sink that there was blood splatter. It wasn't just a pool of blood but rather splatter. So at some point in the attack Travis was stabbed around that sink. I couldn't tell you how far he was from the sink when he was stabbed but he had to be in the vicinity of it. Hopefully the states blood splatter expert will be able to provide those details to the jury.

It's my opinion that he was first stabbed then shot. The shell casing didn't have blood on it just around it. Which would lead me to believe the blood was already on the floor before he was shot.

Did I hear correctly (not necessarily during the trial) that LE had a photo of jA dragging Travis that was taken when the camera dropped, or something like that?

It's worth considering because she seems to have caught him completely off guard. The pic of him just before is haunting. BBM

I'm impatient to hear now how Defense will explain so many atrocious injuries to Travis, 29 stab wounds, cut throat and then the shot in the head in a self-defense motive when Jodi wasn't injured. He was much larger and stronger than she. You have to get really close to someone to stab them but she managed to do so much damage without any defensive wounds on her.

I think She probably slit his throat first (while he was lying back with his eyes closed after their sexual adventure) but he reacted to that so she stabbed him many times then shot him in the head to make sure he was dead

Beth Karas on JVM just speculated he was first stabbed in the heart by the sink, then went down the hall where he was likely getting weak and she slit his throat and then shot him as she dragged him to the shower. I am not sure where she heard that.

I have a feeling that he first took a shower and that the attack then began in the bathroom or at the end of the hallway after he got out. And that he was only pulled/dragged back into the shower to wash off her DNA. But it's possible based on the gunshot wound that he was shot while in the shower after he was dragged back in.

The bottom of this article discusses her wearing long sleeves and having bandaged hands the day after. So perhaps there were some wounds on her.

This is the part that gets me: why shoot and stab and slice?

My dad is a retired judge, and in high school I went with my class to the courts and found myself watching a murder trial -- the killer was on the stand and the prosecutor was walking back and forth with the knife he'd used and picking away at his story -- why had he done it? why had he kept on stabbing her?

After a few minutes of this the killer got up and started shouting that the bi*** had made him do it, and then left him to pay -- his rage at her for having (in his mind) invited her own murder by being unresponsive to his overtures even now, months later, filled him with rage. The overkill was, it sees, to me, part of the same anger that drove the murder -- same flavour, same attitude with respect to blame: I have no doubt that in JA's mind, TA deserved what he got and I have no doubt that she still believes this.

This is a really nasty case -- an ordinary young romance gone sour, with an explosive personality in the "wronged" corner. 99.9 times out of 100 the parties walk away, simmer a while and move on.

Another thing about his shower picture, if you look across his neck it looks red, raised, irritated. Almost like a knife was dragged across it several times. I am wondering if she didn't do that taunting him before actually slitting his throat. I also feel that after she had pretty much over powered him that some of the stab wounds were done to torture him before finally killing him. (?)

Does anyone know what the Mormon church does to make members pay for the ill of having premarital sex? Did something about this come up in testimony on the first day of the trial?

Watching JVM and seeing lots of pictures of TA. I don't know much about this case, but he looks like a very very unhappy man in the photographs. Even the one or two smiling pics seem half-hearted.

Robbie Ludwig just said that once he had sex with JA, he probably marginalized her. I think that is probably true. His comments in the email to her were extremely degrading. I would be devastated if someone used those words to describe me.

Don't get me wrong, I don't think he deserved to be murdered. I just think these two are/were very disturbed and conflicted people. A toxic combination.

Hi, BrownRice, my completely hypothetical, but somewhat logical theory is that Jodi caught Travis nude taking a shower and used the camera as a ruse to explain her presence and catch him off guard. (Taking pictures seems to have been part of their love play.)

With him thus disarmed, she told him to wait a minute, retrieved a neighbor weapon, and then shot or stabbed him. (I always remember a film director, perhaps David Lynch, telling an interviewer that Hitchcock was brilliant because a person is never more defenseless than he or she is while taking a shower.)

In my imaginary scenario, she shot him first because she could it at a greater distance, thus not putting herself at risk from the much larger Travis. The blow partially blinded him and impaired him and then she, more panicked, went ballistic with the knife. I would think that a very self-possessed and possessed woman like Jodi would plan a one-shot killing, but also have a backup plan.

And, yes, the visit was apparently a surprise to Travis.

Chanler - Didn't it come out in testimony today though that there were pics of them having sex? I thought I heard that (something said about a sex "tape", but then later something about photos on the camera?). I was reading a lot of stuff online though, so that could be from something I read. If there were pics though, that would imply that she ambushed him in the shower after they had sex. Maybe because she pushed for a commitment, and he didn't give her the response she wanted?

That's because she used the clothes she washed to clean up some of the blood. There were no punctures in any of his clothes and they were at one point covered in blood. I would venture to think that he was wearing only a towel when the attack began and she used the towel and the shirt to clean up the blood.

And you would be surprised how strong someone is when they are filled with that much rage. She clearly had to be completely filled with rage to inflict that many wounds on him. This wasn't a quick attack, this had to have taken a decent amount of time.

It would be interesting to have the actual photo but from what is shown here, his face does not show pain IMO that is why I think the attack came afterwards. I blew it up so you can see his expression better and his neck.

BBM. I agree that's likely -- it may also explain the apparent escalation in the language used in the correspondence. It reminds me of the old Jerry Hall quote (“My mother said it was simple to keep a man, you must be a maid in the living room, a cook in the kitchen and a in the bedroom. I said I'd hire the other two and take care of the bedroom bit”). Except in this case there was a potent conflict between sexual desire and religious guilt -- I have very little purchase on JA's relationships history. Her behaviour seems to have been so bizarre throughout that I wonder how experienced she was. On the other hand, if she is a card-carrying psychopath, then her "relationships" may well have amounted to a series of objectified men -- or sentient personal massage units, to paraphrase TA's colourful complaint.
