Is there still just one charge? If it's a video, shouldn't there be a charge for every single frame or something? This is so troubling!!! How did he go from what he did to 4 sisters and the babysitter (Don't know details and don't want to.), which sounds awful enough by itself, to this!? It makes me wonder what else he's done in between.

Not supposed to speculate here about non-accused persons.....but...I completely agree with your impressions. It almost seems a given that those who protest the loudest are projecting their own behaviors. It almost seems as if the entire 19 kids thing might have been a cover for a very dark patriarch who simply craved the availability of children. Moo and just thoughts. I do wonder if the adult girls who Josh molested are being so public about their abuse in part because they are not ready to let the revelations end there, almost like they are hinting that what they can speak about is nothing compared to the bigger picture of their whole experience in that family. Like they want someone held accountable who is as yet under the public radar. Let's just say it wouldn't surprise me at all.

We need to remember that in this cult, Bill Gothard's Institute for Basic Life Principles (IBLP), women and children belong to men. They are property and when men are caught sexually assaulting them, the victims are at fault. Women must protect men from being seduced by women or children. They don't see things the way mainstream does; they need to protect the men.

According to the Duggar belief system, we ought to be asking, how could women trust their seductive children around the men, how could women trust themselves around men? It's an ingenious system, upheld by the victims, that most often protects the abuser from state/federal consequences by maintaining silence.

It's more akin to a cult than far right evangelicalism, although people like Sarah Palin (Salon, 2008) do/did support the org. Yes, it's separate, created and founded in 1961 by Gothard. If you get the time and your blood pressure is low, do read up on it. ETA: IBLP existed under several different names until 1989.

I'm not seeing many Christian defenders of Josh, outside of his wife, perhaps, some family, and the husband who volunteered to host him. I'm just thinking of how sick I feel reading about his charges without the details. This is his opportunity to break from the family tradition of covering up things. I hope he pleads guilty, gives an accounting on the record, and takes all the help he can get while he does his time. IMOO, he can't begin to find redemption in this life until he's honest with himself and others. I don't know where his life went sideways or how it got that way, but he needs serious help AND not to be around children.

Sexual abuse of children seems to have its tentacles woven throughout society, and not just in the U.S. There is not one group who can claim it's not in their midst to some degree. I don't know what the answer is, but I know that for Josh and for his family, it's not a drawn out trial. Josh, only the truth shall set you free. Go with that, please!
