Because something likely happened DUE to him being ill. If she said this, it would lead into "well, if he was sick, why didn't you take him to the doctor?" and then LE would know what happened, know what I mean? She's trying to remove herself from the situation completely so it can look like it's someone else's fault.

Yeah, something like he threw up one too many times and she lost it. Dealing with a sick kid is stressful, and it sounds like she confronts stress with aggression.
But I guess the neighbor was right. He said Lucas was standing back not playing, and they thought he was sick. He WAS sick. I wonder why she sent him outside when he was sick and obviously in no mood to play.
I also want to add, I live about 4 or 5 hours from Wichita and the flu was going around like crazy during that time. My own little boy was in the ER in the middle of January because of it. It was a REALLY rough one, and both of my kids ended up getting it. Luckily, we just happened to have tons of snow days then, or they would've missed over a week of school. So while the poisoning wouldn't shock me, I think he probably really did have a stomach bug.
