If you have time, go up to comment 489. It's in the transcript, but the link should take you to an article with a video on top. You can find it in the video.
But, is that the man who stayed there?

  • #502
No, we don't know if it is the same man or not, so it may be better to say nothing rather than jump to conclusions.

Who is jumping to conclusions? I asked the question if he was the same man. It seems unclear. Then I reasoned out that either way it's a bad situation for Charlee. JMO. Her mom has a convicted sex offender boyfriend with violent tendencies and outstanding warrants and her grandparents are letting a convicted felon with outstanding warrants stay the night. It actually would be slightly better, IMO, if they are the same man and not TWO convicted felons with outstanding warrants. Because at least if this was mom's boyfriend spending the night, perhaps the grandparents didn't know his past and only opened their home to him because he was with their daughter. That would make sense, IMO.

I would say that in cases like this one, where family members have less than stellar backgrounds or people around them who have less than stellar backgrounds, would be more inclined to omit things when talking to the police - like having a convicted felon over etc, because look where the thought process goes.
Yes, maybe sometimes that person could have done something, but lots of times they haven't and some cases have been messed around by the police or the media having the focus on the wrong person just because they have a history. It prevents things from getting solved. It becomes too much of the focus so often.
I understand why there's often little information in certain cases from certain demographics - look how that reporter skewed the information by going on about Grandma's unrelated convictions. Like as if they're adding it for colour to say "Well, they're those kind of people, so it makes sense".
The convicted felon in this case doesn't seem to have contributed to anything, but still, it colours people's views of the situation. It's interesting.

Usually I'd err on that side too, but it's sort of heartbreaking when you can see the mechanics of blame at play in the media especially. I know it's two completely different cases and two completely different areas, but it's interesting how quick they are to mention this families legal issues, when you compare it to say, Emily Glass, whom I felt even the media and even the police were reluctant to call her out for what she was, even though she had her convictions.

It comes down to poor reporting and regional bias, because you really should be able to piece together a story without adding journalistic MSG like a shoplifting record. Yet there it is.

Regarding Grandma’s past crimes, I think the history of DUI is concerning when maybe the shoplifting not so much.

And grandma “forgetting” about a convicted felon being in the home and leaving at 4:30 am until the neighbor’s security camera showed him leaving the home is definitely a concern, She valued protecting the felon houseguest more than providing accurate and truthful information to LE when her granddaughter was missing.

Whether or not the convicted felon contributed to this case isn’t the point. It goes toward the fact that Grandma makes questionable decisions. When you are responsible for the safety of a toddler that is important.

Do we have dates on when grandma was convicted of these things?

Here are a few quotes I have, but I don't think they will straighten it out for us--so, just for what they are worth, maybe nothing.

@ about 3:51 minutes at first link below:
We have done developed information this morning about a guy that was there 4:30 yesterday morning, and we are going to his house and getting ready to do a search at his place.

@ about 6:50 minutes at first link below:
We locked up the mother’s boyfriend yesterday but that was just on outstanding warrants, and that’s it.

And this:

Officials say Charlee’s mother’s boyfriend was taken into custody on outstanding, unrelated warrants Thursday. I cross-referenced that with the jail roster here and found that a Charles had been arrested on Winding Hollow Road yesterday. He has outstanding warrants in Broward County, Florida related to burglary, and tampering with witnesses or victims. Extradition documents state he has a violent tendency and is a sexual offender.

A family cousin was also questioned and released today.

This exactly. It also says "She has faced charges related to drug use". Not sure what that means-- if it was grandma using drugs or someone else she covered for, but drugs and drunk driving are not safe environments for raising a child. Maybe grandma has turned her life around since those charges. Maybe they are irrelevant now. But, IMO, it's a good idea for LE to question why she slept so late. So often we complain when a child dies and was NOT taken out of this type of situation despite the warning signs being there. I'm in favor of CPS taking extra time to make sure Charlee's home life is safe. JMO.

I don't think we have dates, but the reporter said he spent the day at the court house trying to learn more and he had documents in his hand. (But, remember, this was just an hour or so before Charlee was found).

Maybe they even regret the story now, who knows?

The sheriff's department are taking bloodhounds out today, so they really suspect something was more amiss somewhere than a little child wondering off on her own.

As unpleasant, and maybe unfair as it is, everything and everyone will have to be looked at.

Isn't Charlee's mother's boyfriend, Charlee's father? Is that the grandparents fault too?

  • #510
We don't know. The media did not name mom's boyfriend, so there is confusion. JMO.
They did name him but I didn't put it in my quote because I don't think we are allowed to mention both first and last names. I omitted it just to be on the side of caution.

Another thing I want to mention is that Charlee's mother lives very close to Charlee and the grandparents, so I would be surprised if her live-in was the one staying over at the grandparents. (It appears she takes his last name, so they must have been together for awhile).

But ...

No, the current boyfriend is not Charlee's father.

No. Her father lives in another state. He was cleared of any involvement:
Charlee's father lives in Bowling Green and has been denied visitation. Tinnell said Charlee's father has not seen her since September 2017. Kentucky State Police troopers searched his home Thursday. Tinnell said at this point he does not believe the father was involved in Charlee's disappearance.

On Thursday, Charlee's mother's boyfriend was taken into custody on outstanding, unrelated warrants, according to Tinnell.

I am confused. Is it Charlees father who is purported to be the violent sex offender or the mother's boyfriend? And I cannot see what any of them have to do with a child wandering off with a dog.

Oh.. that was why I was asking if they were the same man. They named the man who stayed the night here and called him a family member (but other media outlets called him a family friend):
A family member, Robert Bailey, was was detained and questioned Friday morning but is no longer considered a person of interest.

Bullitt County Sheriff Donnie Tinnell said Bailey was a guest in the home from 11 p.m. on June 6 to 4:30 a.m. on June 7.
Search continues for missing 2-year-old girl in Bullitt County
He was previously named in the thread and we had started to sleuth him just before they found Charlee safe. So if Mom's boyfriend has a different name, then there are TWO convicted felons brought in on Warrants because of Charlee wandering off. I think Charlee and her dog Penny are heroes ;)

There were two arrests. Charlee‘s mom‘s boyfriend (Quick, not Charlee‘s father) on outstanding warrants in Fla. and a relative/family friend (Bailey, actually a cousin), a convicted felon, who stayed at the place until 4:30.

Thank you so much for this. I was so confused--I thought maybe the media had the two confused. LOL (I know that sounds ridiculous).

But---Supervision End Date: 4/30/2019

I bet that's why grandma forgot to tell LE he was there--didn't want to make trouble.

Here's the thing, though--a child was missing; so, where were her priorities?

My thought as well. If my child was missing I would provide every shred of information to LE. Protecting a converted felon would come far behind the safety of my granddaughter where my priorities were concerned.

It wasn’t the mom’s boyfriend who spent the night in Charlee’s home. It was reported to be a cousin.

Both of these men: the boyfriend of the mother and the guy who spent the night in Charlee’s home, are convicted felons. Especially concerning to me would be the mom’s boyfriend who was reported to be a violent sexual offender. I would want to make sure this guy was never allowed to be around Charlee.

While it might be unpleasant I don’t think it is unfair for everyone to be looked at that is in Charlee’s life. This little girl has to be kept safe, and he well being must be put ahead of any unpleasantness involved in checking out her environment. There are certainly red flags with the poor decision making and lack of supervision of the Grandma.

Thanks, I think I got it straight now.

The whole situation is very concerning for a young child. I can't help but wonder why they took custody from the mother in the first place.

Charlee is almost three and she doesn't speak in sentences. I understand this could be the result of many things, but trauma could cause this, too.

What all has this sweet, innocent child been through in her not quite three years of life?

I'm very glad LE is taking this seriously and continuing to investigate. It certainly seems warranted in my opinion.
