How old is the grandmother who hadustody?
The grandmother (Beth) is 40. She didn't have custody, her husband Charlee's grandfather (Ron) had custody he is also 40. Haven't found an age for Natalie (mom) but her husband that was arrested is 36.

How mixed up is this? Husband of the mother of Charlee is 4 years younger than Charlee's grandparents? This is generational dysfunction.

Grandpa seems to be the only responsible person in Charlee’s life.

Surely he knows grandma has a meth addiction ?

Did he know that grandma and the houseguest were doing meth the night before Charlie disappeared? Was he asleep because he had to get up early and go to work?

Is that why the houseguest left at the unusual hour of 4;30 am? Did he sneak out before grandpa got up to go to work? Or did grandpa get up, find him, and tell him to leave the house?

I think Grandpa, Charlee, and Penny should leave this dysfunctional extended family and start a new life in another state.

Someone up thread was asking if the pool was in ground or above ground. Here is a screenshot from the newscast. Above ground.

From the video with the sheriff -

He asks grandma why she waited so long to report Charlee missing because if that was his three year old he would want everyone there looking. Grandma said because she got busy and distracted.
:eek::(

Whaaaa? Too distracted to report your granddaughter missing? Maybe I wasn't as wrong as I thought I was.

I take it that they are not allowed to go back and investigate the pool further without some kind of a warrant? ...

I'm beginning to doubt that Grandma woke up late. I don't think she went to bed at all. If she and a friend were partaking in meth or other amphetamines, it's not unusual to miss a normal sleep cycle. "Staying up all night" can also mean being too wired to sleep for many, many hours. I don't doubt that Grandma was "distracted." Perhaps she told LE she slept and awoke to minimize her impairment. Or, maybe she was giving herself a few hours to "come down" a bit and not appear to be a "tweaker." IMO

Is this what you are looking for?

Sheriff Donnie Tinnell narrates why search parties may not have been able to find 2-year-old Charlee Campbell if she was in fact lost in the woods the entire time she was missing. -- Heather Fountaine WHAS11 News
Thank you for this. I hadn't seen this particular link, and it is better than the ones I had viewed. I hope you don't mind if I embed it.

Also, here is a Google map I made with both locations on it:

And a screen shot in satellite view:

Except with assistance from Penny, I don't see how a child not yet three-years-old could have made it out of there.

I wish the sheriff would go back and interview the neighbor who found her, because he did give one interview where he seems to imply that Penny was with Charlee when he first discovered her. I believe he said that Charlee pointed to Penny and said "puppy'. The sheriff doesn't seem to think so.

But from the one interview, I took it that Penny headed for home alone--probably thirsty herself--when the neighbor brought Charlee inside his residence. (Maybe Penny wasn't invited in).

I had two weird, random thoughts this morning about searches. If the main search area is wooded can some type of trail cams be put in as they search? Something they can monitor live. If a young child is missing they could kind of walk in circles/ repeat a path.
What about helium balloons? I think most kids love them. Maybe with a small tracking device?
Weird thoughts to wake up with. Lol

While I agree that Charlee needs responsible people to care for her, I am not sure why this has to be played out on the public stage. Surely Charlee has some rights to privacy and the Sheriff does not have to explain his actions to the public.

Yes, but before the new revelations a lot of the public would probably have been concerned about the response of not letting Charlee go straight home being a bit heavy-handed, and the family just need to add more dead bolts.

With these revelations, who feels LE's being heavy handed in not handing C right back and getting CPS in? Not me!

I agree that CPS should be brought in and that that she should not go back there, but I am not sure that we needed to know all that stuff. Not out of concern for the people, but for the little girl.

Me either! I am hoping that the whole family will receive the help they need, but between the drug addiction issues, the obvious neglect of a toddler, grandma further endangering Charlee by not reporting her missing for hours, and withholding information from LE I would fear for her safety if she had been returned to this situation. Add in the two felons who apparently were around Charlee, including the mother’s boyfriend/husband who is a violent sex offender.

She deserves so much better. Penny deserves so much better.

All of this that just said here, makes me even more surprised that this little girl was found alive.

Charlee was released from the hospital and is currently in the care of Child Protective Services.

Sheriff Tinnell told WHAS11 News that Charlee is shy and quiet, so asking her what happened has not been simple.

They are trying to bring in a speech therapist to help get information from her. They are also scheduling a forensics exam.

Sheriff Tinnell is also pursuing negligence charges.

He said Campbell (grandfather) was at work at the time she disappeared and has cooperated with police and is not under any suspicion

Questions linger after Bullitt Co. girl is found close to home

Who knows how many dangerous situations she might have been in before this? I am fairly certain that this wasn’t the first time Grandma used meth, had overnight visitors, overslept leaving Charlee unattended, etc.
