LA - 28 injured when car runs into Mardi Gras parade, 25 Feb 2017

  • #21
I have family who were eight blocks from where this tragedy struck. This is a huge parade since it is on Saturday for the children. It began at 4pm. The injured count has risen to 29.

Mayor Landrieu tweeted at 9:03pm that City Services were busy cleaning the debris.
DeDee, I'm glad your family is okay. Such a tragedy. I hope everyone pulls through.

Well I shall be damned. He crashed into a dump truck that was there to keep cars from running over people

you know what I mean it was like New York using big trucks for day parade thing.

That is IMO drunk deliberateness .

I hate seeing these incidents of vehicles plowing through crowds, which seem to be increasing. At least this does appear to be "accidental" (DUI) rather than intentional. I am worried about the 5 in critical condition.

Didn't something of this nature happen at Mardi Gras last year, or was it a shooting? :sigh:

Well, we sadly have had a shooting almost daily at our Uptown parades this year, including one earlier today on the Uptown route. Maybe not every day, but nearly. My parents rent a place on St. Charles every year for the month of Mardi Gras. While most of my family goes, my son doesn't like the parades and I happily stay home with him. Endymion (the parade with this incident tonight) is probably the parade with the biggest crowds. It has a different route than every other parade and people start marking out spots weeks in advance. It is a nightmare to get there, get home or get anywhere near it. He will be very lucky if his disgusting stunt doesn't end up in a murder trial. He could have easily killed many people. Our kids sit in seats on top of 6 foot ladders. Just knocking down those would cause major injuries.

TY - it obserd to be thinking a oppsss DUI! There has to be intent and drunk two things
IMO, there are probably people who do get drunk/high when depressed or angry, rationalizing that anything they do won't be their fault. So, yes, I think it begins with a desire to take out their frustrations and woes on someone.

Two gangbangers shot each other to death at the very beginning of Mardi Gras this year.

I was just about to respond to your previous post about the possibility the driver was depressed. Snipped from the Heavy article:

NOLA.com quoted an eyewitness as saying of the driver: “It seemed like he got pissed off because all of a sudden he slammed the gas and his back tires started and it seemed like his foot never left the gas pedal.”

http://heavy.com/news/2017/02/live-...o-crowd-terrorism-isis-accident-photos-video/

UnSub was drunk, angry and suddenly, without provocation, slammed the gas and his foot stayed there to harm, mane and cruelly kill the people.

Both wdsu and wwltv were doing live streams on Facebook. They are all having a hard time getting a signal cause there are 10 kajillion people with cell service at the parade. I will see if I can find the links

I don't get it. This is awful. I heard about from Dallas news station that I get news alerts from. I had to google to find more info. I went to Mardi Gras once as a young naive 19 year old. Had a blast. I'm so tired of this forked up world we live in. I hope this 🤬🤬🤬 rots. Loser!

Thankfully, none of the injuries are life-threatening, but many of these people will have a long road to recovery and may experience life-long health problems related to their injuries.

I have been hearing the same kinda stuff critical but non life threatening!

That is an impossibility- critical means life threatening! How on earth there is packaged video saying this is bizarre - what do they think critical means -- it means on deaths door moo

I just posted a link. If you go to this site:

https://www.facebook.com/TheAdvocateNewOrleans/posts/1067629513370082

they have multiple links. Also check wdsu, wvue and wwltv

In New Orleans, especially at Endymion, it is not that easy to just say stop the party. It is miles and miles long. It ends in the Superdome. There are something like 72 pieces of float, plus thousands of members of bands, dance teams, etc that are in this parade. That is all before you factor in the number of people watching. If they "ended" the party, where do the floats go? They turn around and go home? There are people on it. The most effective way is to clear the scene (as they did) and let the parade continue to roll through. When it is over, they can get to the evidence better. They did clear all the people who were near that area, I watched it live.

Not live but most informative thing I have found scroll down

There was also a head on with 5 bad injuries - so maybe that is why so many of these folks were sent to so many hospitals

You're right. When I see 'critical' I expect some fatalities. Maybe reporters aren't familiar with the terms any more. They may mean serious condition instead of critical. Glad they got it wrong and the injuries are likely less severe than they sound. But, I think I did read that some suffered head trauma. That's certainly not good.

To give y'all a clue just how huge this parade is, this was a live video from the END of the parade. When it rolls into the Superdome. This is basically the after party. But, you can see how many people ride and march in it. No way to turn it around.
