Also there needs to be some severe repercussions for the police ignoring it for so long. That poor mother. He's such a cute kid.
Yes, if this awful response time is a constant issue, as residents report, then elected officials (Mike Johnson, for one) need to be held accountable.

They just said on the news it has moved to a recovery effort. I think we all knew that, but it's really sad to hear.

I have seen the family upset that they aren't getting more help. And I get it. No help is enough when your child is missing! But, I can say that tons of agencies are searching and helping. They have had multiple dive teams, have removed floating plant vegetation, drained a canal, used airboats, used drones, bloodhound dogs, cadaver dogs.... And they are still searching. New Orleans people are big hearted and they are definitely trying. They even found a sunken car that was missing from another case, during a dive. Bless those searchers, in this heat. And I hope he is found, so the family can move on from this unsettling chapter.

I agree. The terrain is difficult environment to search and takes specialized equipment. I’m glad that the Angola prison dogs are being used as well as other trained dogs. Air boats are fantastic to use because normal boats and motors struggle in these water ways. Louisiana is often near 100 degrees and 100% humidity. Canoes and pirogues are hard to maneuver in the grass and weeds.

When my husband and I helped search Lake Martin in St. Martin Parish for Mickey (Mighty Mick) Shunick, we had to use our flat bottom boat because you could skim the water and quickly lift the motor without hitting underwater cypress stumps and clogging the motor with Lily pads.

A source tells Fox 8 authorities found a body in the lagoon behind Bryan Vasquez’s house.

We’re told the body hasn’t been positively identified as Bryan, considering decomposition, but that the body is nude.

If this is Bryan.

His family can now lay him to rest. Blessings on them and all the searchers.

I used to always post this on every thread where a child with autism was tragically taken by the water. I can imagine how much fear this brings up for thousands of families with a loved one with autism. This might give a little peace of mind. I did read where it can often get approved for the monthly plan to be paid for. Or if you can afford it, it could be worth it.

May Bryan's family find some sort of peace after this devastating discovery.

NOPD Superintendent Ann Kirkpatrick announced the discovery of the body during a Tuesday morning press conference, saying that "foul play" has not been ruled out as the case moves from a missing person to a death investigation.

"I have personally spoken to the mother and extended our apologies, as well as our condolences," Kirkpatrick told reporters.

The New Orleans Police Department confirms a warrant was served on a phone in connection to the Bryan Vasquez case, but did not say who's phone. Also, NOPD said that the Department of Children and Family Services is conducting its own investigation.
The department is asking anyone with information on Bryan to call 911 or to submit an anonymous tip via Crime Stoppers.

How great is it to live in a country where the possibility that a little guy died as part of a crime is investigated, rigorously, by people who never knew him and who have nothing to gain through the pursuit aside from trying to get to the truth? … bless them all.

I will be absolutely shocked if the family played a part. The only thing they could have done was let him out instead of him getting out on his own. But he seemed loved. So I will be surprised. Although not much surprises me after websleuthing so long!!

Poor child. I mentioned alligators way up thread but I didn't want to really say too much. I know people are probably wonder why he wasn't eaten. Many times, the gators will kill by flipping and drowning them hide it under a log to come back for later. I cannot imagine how scared he was. And I also can't imagine the image for his mama.

I hope they finish their "investigation" soon. She has enough trauma to deal with. If they think she called late, well they showed up late late!!! Look at yourself first, for response time. This isn't news to anyone who lives here. And it isn't the police officers fault. They work haaaaaaerrd in this city! Trust that.

How awful for his family and loved ones. As if it wasn’t bad enough already and then this sad, terrible outcome.

The boy's mother, 34-year-old Hilda Vasquez, was served with a search warrant which took her phone into evidence as her previous charges related to child abuse have emerged in the investigation.

'We're looking at all aspects,' NOPD Deputy Superintendent Nicholas Gernon said. 'This is a fact-finding mission.'

Hilda Vasquez was charged in 2014 with cruelty to juveniles and second-degree cruelty to juveniles after then six-month-old Bryan, one of her four children, sustained a fractured skull and broken legs, NOLA reported.

She later pleaded guilty to a lesser charge of simple cruelty to juveniles by negligent treatment or neglect.

Nola.com was the only news source reporting this last evening. I wasn’t sure it it was considered as a reliable source. I follow their fb page.
