The lifelong abuse that that little Bryan suffered is horrifying. How was his mother allowed to have custody of him, or of any children. For that matter, why was she never in prison for child abuse? Those of you who are following the Emmanuel Haro case will recognize that the injuries that Bryan received at three months old, are almost identical to the injuries that Emmanuel's 10-week old half-sister received at the hands of their father. Those of us following Emmanuel's case have been astonished that the father didn't receive a prison sentence, and served only 1 day in jail + 179 days in a work release program. He went on to father 2 more children and is now charged with Emmanuel's murder. Bryan's mother was sentenced to a 5-year prison sentence, but received probation. She has had 3 more children since then, and her youngest is only 4-weeks old.

The 12-year-old boy who was killed by an alligator after escaping his bedroom window in New Orleans had a traumatic brain injury from his mother, not autism, according to reports.

*****
According to a report from The New Orleans Advocate/Times-Picayune, the Department of Children and Family Services responded in 2021 to a call from Bryan’s school reporting bruises to his inner thigh and face. The 2021 states that Bryan had an individualized education plan at school because of a "traumatic brain injury (non-accidental)."

Police reports obtained by the newspaper show that Bryan’s mother called an ambulance in late 2013 and said her 3-month-old baby had stopped breathing and was vomiting blood and milk. Bryan arrived at the emergency room with a damaged lung, retinal hemorrhages, fractures in both legs that caused his ankles to bend outward, and a skull fracture with swelling.

*****
Bryan was placed in foster care and was later given back to his mother, but reports of abuse continued. The 2021 DCFS report said he had bruises on his face and inner thigh and had tapeworms at least twice.

More in article.

*****
Court documents state that Hilda Vasquez was unable to explain how her son’s injuries occurred. One record noted that, prior to the hospital visit, she and her boyfriend were watching television when the baby began screaming as if "someone was squeezing him."

*****
Hilda Vasquez was sentenced to five years in prison for child abuse, but later received probation. Before her guilty plea, court records suggested that supervised visits with her son would be in his best interest. However, it appears she eventually regained custody of the child.

Court records also show an arrest for a probation violation in 2017.

Wait
Is this the mother who reported him missing?

So the system did not want to pay for foster care for all of these kids no matter what. Just let suffering and abuse happen, as long as he technically has a place to be. He doesn't need justice nor protection, as long as the system doesn't have to deal with his ongoing needs. Each instance of abuse will be forgiven because protecting him is just too exepnsive and hard. That's what I'm getting out of this case. My current opinion only.

I wonder if there is confirmed record she had attempted to call the police prior to going

I find myself having a lot more questions about how he left, who later left, phone calls to the police, other video surveillance

I hope they are looking to at least confirm the story

I just don't understand how you can get your child back after that.

I keep updating my post, so I will make a new one, in case someone already read.

There were 2 other instances that he got out in the 2 weeks prior. Sufficient steps were not taken to ensure he didn't get out, not was he checked on enough to make sure he was still in the home.

I'm kind of sorry that I came across this thread. It's too devastating for me to get involved in it too deeply at this moment.
I just want to send a virtual hug to Bryan. We care about you Bryan! You mattered. You deserved a better life. You were robbed.

Poor baby. Throw the book at her, and anyone else involved.

If they were negligent enough that he kept getting out of the house by himself (esp. in the middle of the nite!), at least 3 times in just 2 weeks, KNOWING they lived in a place where killer alligators were within a few minutes' walking distance... then I guess I can understand them charging her like this. But it's still awful all around.

In the beginning I was devastated for both Bryan and his mother in the end I was devastated for Bryan and horrified by the person who birthed him.

Applauding the police and investigators for pursuing a path here that will hopefully get the other children permanently placed in a safe environment.

It did play out over several doorbell cams.
He did leave out and walked straight into his death. He was gone before mom called to report him. she was at least 3 and a half hours behind him, herself.
She -Also was the one to beat the better sense out of him ,in the first place . so there is that.
