If it were me trying to conceal such a crime (God forbid!) I would go as far out as I could to ensure she was never found. She was found so soon after the crime that I don't think a boat was involved. Just my opinion, though.

I think a boat might have been used to enter into the body of Lake Borgne, but still close enough to shore that the water pushed the remains more westward than south into the open GOM.

Anyone familiar with the water along the Mississippi Sound knows that objects wash ashore. Think of the oil plumes and dead animals that lined the shore from LA to FL after the BP catastrophe. Considering the distinctive tattoos and piercings, dismemberment did little to disguise Jaren's identity, so I don't think that was the purpose. It's occurred to me that the remains were meant to be found and identified as a warning to others. OTOH, maybe the perp is just dumb.

For what it's worth, I contacted one of the Bay St. Louis journalists that has been covering the story and gave her what little info we have about HM and suggested she might want to look further into her death.

I am always grateful when a missing person is recovered to give those who loved them some closure. It's been said time and again how hellish it must be to go years without knowing where the missing person is. So in this case, as horrible as it is to have body parts wash ashore, I am relieved that family and friends know where she is, AND elated that possible evidence can be found as a result of the recovery.

I also wonder what that tells us about the perp? I know the folks that study these things probably know, but it makes me think this is an unsophisticated killer. On the other hand, there are so many missing people who are never found. I can only surmise those that met a terrible demise, did so at the hands of perps who are very well organized and sophisticated to have hidden the remains and avoided detection. It is all quite sobering to me.

So we know she made it to work. I was assuming she never got in the cab to go to work. Makes this case much larger (in terms of locations, possible POSs, etc.).

hi first time posting but here goes....Do you have a link that states she was last seen by boyfriend? actually what police are reporting is that she was last seen at her job and witnesses put her leaving with people they were not familiar with..last time boyfriend saw her was night before and was worried next morning when he couldnt get in touch with her and contacted police....

I'm thinking, based on Hillary Moulder's obit being placed in the Bay St. Louis newspaper rather than the New Orleans Times Picayune, that Hillary & her family are originally from Bay St. Louis (maybe her family is still there; we know she worked in NOLA w/ Jaren). Seems strange to me Hillary (and okay, we don't know her COD- passes away in March- not sure where- NOLA or Bay St. Louis or somewhere else) is from or buried in Bay St. Louis and then Jaren's remains wash ashore there. It seems 110% plausible to me that Jaren's remains were dumped around NOLA & washed ashore in BSL, but could they also have been dumped around/in BSL and then washed back to shore around where they were dumped? I think there may be some weird BSL connection here. Or one big coincidence.

I wish we knew more about Hillary and the other girl who worked with them who died.

WOW!!! Eye opening! This investigation has just taken a 360 degree turn. They were wrong then to report that she was last seen by her BF before she took a cab.

Exactly, her BF could not have been the last to see her. Evidently the police have gained alot of insight knowing she made it to work, and evidently finished her shift and left as usual after working, but who did she leave with. I wonder if they have video of the club that they can reference, I would think so, I would hope so....IMHO

Is it still light in NOLA at 8 pm? Why no witnesses actually seeing her get into a cab? Lots of people at the hotel, surely there would be someone who saw her get picked up.

Uh, no, this is a motel in a seedy part of town, Tulane Ave, near criminal court house. Several businesses in the area have been closed since Katrina! I doubt lots of people at the motel saw her leave.

I think the torso could have been placed in the north end of the bay and landed where it was found. Less sure about the other parts because it would require a 90 degree turn which doesn't seem likely with three of them ending in the same place.

As for a BSL connection, with no confirmation that foul play was involved in the other young woman's death, I'm leaning toward coincidence. That's not to say I won't change my mind if new information is revealed.
