From his quote in the article, it doesn't sound like Caraway thinks the murder took place at the house in Kenner. If so, why would Kenner LE take over the investigation?
"I have seen no evidence of that," Caraway said, "but we know she was last seen with the persons of interest."
And those persons of interest were residing in Kenner at the time of the murder. Caraway also said this:
We hope we can solve the case in the near future and help bring some closure."
IMO, he doesn't sound averse to the idea, he simply can't say for certain that JL was killed in Kenner. Hopefully, the pending evidence examination results will be conclusive.
I've always wondered why the NOPD wasn't in charge of this case from the beginning since Jaren was last seen alive leaving a club in NOLA.
That's exactly the point. JL was alive when last seen in New Orleans.
Maybe the murder took place closer to where they were last seen together, and for whatever crazy reason, MAS and TS drove with Jaren's body to the Miss. coast to dispose of it. Then they end up back in Kenner with some evidence on their hands, in the car, in the house? I just don't see the murder taking place in Kenner and these two risking a drive to the coast with Jaren's body where they could be stopped by Kenner, Jefferson, State, or Hancock LE.
I see it another way. There's little difference between driving from the Quarter to the coast, and driving there from Kenner. Either way, you pass through multiple jurisdictions, and run the risk of being stopped by police. I have a feeling that by the time JL's remains were transported to MS, they were contained and concealed within the trunk of a car, so unless LE had cause to search the car, the remains would have gone undetected even if the they were stopped. But if you think about it, TS was used to playing the odds. He was a fugitive wanted on a federal warrant. Every time he walked out the front door, he was taking a risk.
I'm really curious if there is any similarity between the way Addie Hall's and Jaren's remains were found. As sickening as it is to think about, if I were investigating this case, I would go back to the reports following Zack's suicide and the discovery of Addie's dismemberment and look very closely for the same cuts and/or wounds.
I haven't given it much thought, but that's a good point. I wonder if the autopsy results have been compared.

I might be off track, but imo, it makes sense for the investigation to move to Kenner. Hancock County has held onto it for two years, and I have no doubt they gave it their best shot. In the end, however, all they've turned up are the remains. Remember about a year ago, when the sheriff and DA in Hancock County considered charging the pair with desecration of a corpse? But then refrained? They didn't have enough evidence to proceed even on those charges. Now another year has past, and the investigation has to move on, or go cold. So where is the next logical jurisdiction? Apparently, no witness has been located, or come forward, who saw JL in Orleans Parish after the Bourbon St. camera sighting, which showed her to be alive and well. Considering the circumstances, there's no justification for taking a homicide investigation to Orleans when there is no evidence to indicate the homicide occurred here -- no significant blood evidence in the car to show she was transported somewhere after being wounded or killed -- and she was last known to be in the company of two individuals who resided in a private home in Kenner. If JL's body had been found intact, it might be a different story. But to dismember her body required, among other things, time and seclusion, which the Kenner residence provided. JMO

Ms. Shagwell, I was born, raised, & currently still living in Hancock County...let me just say that if I were to go missing or be found murdered, I wouldn't want our sheriff's dept working my case simply because I don't feel like they have the resources nor the training to properly investigate. It's just my personal opinion.

I'm very thankful that they turned Jaren's case over to Kenner, I feel like the LE over in Louisiana, specifically the New Orleans area, have a whole heck of a lot more experience dealing with serious crimes.

Edited to add, I do have to say I think it's great that all of these agencies have had a part in this investigation from the very beginning. All too often we see LE getting into a turf war, so to speak.
Well Detective Glen Grannan is from Jefferson and for many years worked undercover in Nola. We are fortunate to have him in Hancock.Someone in Nola even wrote a book about him .
Don't sell these guys short, some of them absolutely know what they are doing.

I'm so happy to see some news, things happening in here. It's weird because she popped into my mind just a few days ago.

Praying for J4J!!

Amazing news and great to hear. At this point, I would hope that TS never steps foot a free man again. Given everything else we have, I don't know how this doesn't eventually lead to charges. Something really needs to be done with the back log of work with the labs. 2 years is ridiculous.

I am praying that the Kenner PD will do the right thing and put a helluva lot of effort into bringing Jaren's killers to justice. Keep the story in the news, keep updating any progress and hunt down MS for a little chat about her version of what happened the night they took Jaren.

I am confident that Speaks and Sanchez will be facing charges in Jaren's case before or immediately after Speaks is released from prison this fall.

I am praying for that! I do NOT want TS to be released from prison and I want MS to be located and then charged. I want Justice 4 Jaren and for all of those who loved her and have dealt with this injustice for way too long.

Amen to that, SwampMama! :praying:

Saw this update on nola.com (see link below) and can't help but still wonder if something like this happened to Jaren, especially with Kenner LE in charge of the case and the Sanchez house the possible crime scene.

I'd love to know which Bourbon Street Club Lana Cristina worked for and why her dealer wasn't found somehow as responsible for Amber Hollis's death as Cristina was.

Hollis's case is an example of why I think so many French Quarter regulars who knew Jaren and MAS and TS have kept hush:moo:

I just got the news alert on my phone that Margaret Sanchez has been arrested!

Woohoo! Justice for Jaren is coming!

Can't wait to hear more about the charges! I'm kind of disappointed in 2nd degree charges rather than first but I'm sure the DA has reasons. So I'm so glad to see the charge & glad about the kidnapping charges as well! I'm thinking Speaks will also be charged soon.

Thinking of Jaren's daughter today but also MAS's children...they are victims in this as well.

ETA: the news alert on my phone (from WWL) said "Arrest made in dismembered stripper case." I'm glad about the arrests but the wording kinda gave me pause. Couldn't they say "Arrest in dismembered woman case" or even "arrest in Jaren Lockhart case"? Or heck, even use "dancer" instead of "stripper." We all know Jaren was more than her job.

Finally!!! I heard through the grapevine a few weeks ago that when the Kenner police took over the case, they were investigating a man Jaren knew. He owned a boat and it was sold right after her murder. I figured that was gonna be the person arrested, but I guess MAS was the murderer after all. How unfair that she has not been sitting in jail these past couple of years. I am happy that Jaren's family may finally get some answers cause I'm sure it has been absolute torture not knowing the who, where, and most important the WHY. I'm very curious as to the motive and if there was anyone else involved. Hope the entire truth comes out. May Jaren finally RIP. A shame that such a beautiful and sweet young lady had her life cut short by such a selfish, insecure psycho.
