Absolutely unbelievable. These are two sick people, yes, but not in the way they are claiming. I'm utterly disgusted.

Even a young child knows to call 911 for help.
Poor Lacey didn't know better. And the parents of course could have called 9-11 but for perhaps for whatever reason/s didn't. So sad. MOO.

This is probably the Fletchers' idea and the attorney is just waiting for all the backlash they will get so that hopefully the Fletchers realize how they are perceived. Their best chance is a bench trial and take whatever the judge hands them. They are hoping time will make us all forget. Lacey, we promise we will never forget. #JusticeForLacey

They are, as I understand, a well connected family, local big shots/key figures in town's government.

I'm worried.

I hope Justice will be served.

After all, everybody is equal in the eyes of the Law.

Sometimes a prosecutor intentionally takes the reins of such a case, imho, for the press coverage? A younger prosecutor already planning to move on, one close to retirement with no fear?

Perhaps a prosecutor with a disabled relative?

I agree, Ms. Fletcher deserves justice -- as do Mr. & Mrs. Fletcher imho.

I followed this case from the beginning, so I'm familiar with it. But while searching for videos on a current case here potentially involving a couch, this FOX26 story was recommended for me. It seems it hasn't been posted yet, so be warned:

Imo, being well-connected might make the community even more disgusted with them. Who lets their daughter suffer like that just to keep up appearances? Hopefully the community will see it that way. I don't think anyone can hear what Lacey endured and not be horrified.

Well worth watching, but don't eat beforehand. Un-freaking-believable.

My only hope is that they can be found guilty on lesser charges. I'm not sure a jury would convict of 2nd degree manslaughter. If so, wonderful, but I hope they have the option to convict of negligent homicide if they can't agree there was intent.

I like your answer and sadly am surprised that not more likes are being given to your comment.

"D’Aquilla said defense attorneys are expected to introduce experts to explain that the Fletchers had medical conditions that hindered their ability to care for their daughter."

This is so infuriating. I don't believe this claim whatsoever. Even if they did have "medical reasons" that made it difficult to care for Lacey, that does not excuse the state she was found in. They would have been seeing a doctor to assess their "condition", but yet Lacey hadn't seen a doctor in years???

MOO

Oh, is being walking piles of excrement a medical condition now?

  • #652
I can possibly be made to believe one of them has a 'medical condition' but not both of them! Bit convenient isn't it? I think it's much more likely they are just evil pieces of poop. Moo

  • #653
Well, they certainly failed their daughter -- and their community imho.

  • #654
They are unbelievable. What, is "lacking a soul" a medical condition now? How can this even be a route they are considering?!

There was a time I would have poo-pooed such a ridiculous defense, but if this is a jury trial you just never know what kind of jury you are going to get. I never forgot the guy (Robert Durst), who murdered a few people)- he went on trial for murder of one of those people: he also dismembered the body and walked. Yes, the jury acquitted him-- after that, and after the Anthony trial, I realize that you never know what a jury will do. I would have more confidence in a bench trial- IMO there is no reasonable defense for what these two monsters did to their child. They are despicable.

Ugh..I understand this is one of the only routes the defense attorney can go (because what other excuses could they possibly have) but it's laughably dumb and a little offensive imo. Millions of mentally/physically disabled parents take adequate care of their children everyday. If you find yourself overwhelmed or can't physically move a bigger adult child, you have options. Ask family or community to help, see if you qualify for in-house nursing (which, if what they've said is true, I'm sure Lacey would have qualified!), see if you can get a ceiling hoist, apply to be a full-time caregiver for your child and make that your source of income, send them to an assisted living facility, etc etc etc. This is only made easier when you consider that they seemingly had good incomes and lived comfortably.

Only 'medical condition' that would justify how they treated Lacey is if their brains were literally replaced with sawdust and they didnt have a single neuron left to fire  luckily imo i don't think this angle will go well with a jury. Attorneys will often try to introduce jury members that will relate and feel sympathy for the accused; any disabled or chronically ill jurors will likely feel that same empathy for Lacey.

Agree, I think the horrific details of this case plus the fact that Lacey was their daughter, is going to hit the jury hard in the feels. You can't be human and listen to what she endured, see the pictures, and know that they were right there with her, ignoring all of it and not be appalled.

Unbelievable, their defence is “ medical condition, unable to care for Lacey”? That’s odd considering the fact that they took good care of themselves, they look clean, well fed and dressed. So apparently they have an idea of how to take care of person. They did good job with themselves and apparently “ medical condition” didn’t prevent them from doing it

I believe this "defense" is being thrown out to see how it plays to the public. Also, their attorney may have told them from the start they are screwed but they don't want to believe it. I mean, how many days, weeks, months, did they live with the reality of her literally wasting away without facing that fact? It takes time for people to adjust to reality and their atty is probably trying to get them to entertain a plea and they are resistant. People are horrible to other people everyday, but when a parent lets their child suffer and die before their very eyes without lifting a finger, that is a whole other level of I don't even know what -evil? mental illness? But both parents? What does it say about society that the main structure to protect the weakest among us - the family - fails so miserably?

Are they going to claim they had medical conditions that made it too difficult to call for help or drive to a doctor to ask for help?
