I just recalled that a Lafayette friend told me that it rained the night/early morning of May 18-19 (Mickey's disappearance). If there was blood evidence on St Landry (or anywhere along her route), could the rain that morning have been enough to have washed it away? Locals, what do you think?

Rain won't get rid of blood. Trace evidence of it will remain there for weeks. So if there are any chemists in here who want to mix up a 100 gallon batch of luminol, we could drive around coating the street in it until we find something :D

I'm not familiar with much gang related activity in this area. I was born here, left and have been back for 12 years, and not heard much of that. But, it could be because I don't associate with the kind of people I'd hear about it from. However, I haven't heard about it through media either. But I suppose I could have missed if there was any. Anyone else?

Are gang related abductions that commonplace in the US?

I really don't know. I know around the BR area, it seems more like gang on gang violence/murders. Haven't heard of gang-related abductions... unless this is one of those things the LE like to hide from us!!
I only know what I know from the local news (WAFB), so I cannot say for sure what the deal is with gangs in BR or Lafayette.

A poster mentioned earlier could be a hate crime. I'm more inclined to believe that.

Mostly drug related violence. Not so much gangs. It's mostly baby-gangsters and wannabe's around here. No real gangs. Just repeat offenders

That wouldn't surprise me. There's been an increase in those types of crimes in the last few months

I work with families of children in the juvenile system. I go to their homes. Yes there are gangs in Lafayette, and surrounding areas. But as one commenter said they may not go into an area with the fishermen that frequent this area,as the are more Urban. I thought that also, but I have clients in that henderson area whom could very likely be in gangs and I'm sure are very familiar with the terrain. Just a thought.

And ACI- I do agree "baby gangs" and wanna-bes. Think they have something to prove, which could be scary!!

OT-ACI I have a degree in Criminal Justice and always wanted to work with PI's. So maybe you could be my mentor!!! LOL
I've studied Sociology and Psych so I love the criminal mind, which is what leads me here night after night!!!!!

I've been in Houston since Thursday, staying right off I-10 and have not seen ANY posters or billboards about Mickey :(

Maybe so. I'm still thinking/feeling the whole abduction was planned and she was stalked. No evidence or camera footage makes me think we're dealing with someone serious about not getting caught and experienced enough to pull it off. It is this that keeps me up at night worrying about Mickey. I don't want to think of what a person with that kind of determination would do once she'd been taken. JMO
This still doesn't rule out a hate crime.

Yeah I'm pretty awesome to work with ;)

You learn a lot about Psych and Sociology by watching what people do when they think no one is watching them. It's rarely a boring job

I saw a crime show once where some Crips or some other group of wannabe gangsters were killing random strangers just so they could get those ridiculous teardrops tattooed under their eyes.

Since it was a young lady out at night, there are so many different possible motives. The list is seemingly endless.

Heard someone in a shop in Nola today say 'that torso murder.' I usually don't comment when I hear an insensitive remark. I did this time, I told her the poor baby's name, she has a name, y'know...

Have you visited her thread?

I'm wondering what kind of person works with an accomplice to abduct someone

No just got in from Nola, I'll look in am. It reminded me of Jeff Davis killer & comments from people. 'party girls' 'girls with 'high risk' lifestyles. Every woman, as has been said before, is someone's daughter, mother, sister. No one deserves to die because they didn't take a choice, or have or see a choice to live. Different life...there but for the grace of God...

Update: Checking the weather history for Lafayette-- it looks like it may have rained on May 21 (Monday), not the night of the 18th. The rain may have occurred before the correct route was known or searched.

If she was knocked off of her bike either on purpose or not, she could have even flown into grass which would make it harder to see blood.

A.C.I., I wish that I had either the knowledge, the skill, or the money, for a 100 gallon bucket of luminol.

How would Mickey's murder be a hate crime?

I'm not saying it is a hate crime. In reference to another poster's comment I am more apt to believe it is a hate crime rather than gang related.

Oh Chicken Fried - I loved you until you said that!! 😔

Thanks for your photos- margins worked ok on all my Macs and iOS devices.

So I can see a bike being brought there and hurled from that spot - easily - but what about a person?

I worked my butt off to resize my photos for you... or they would have blown the margins. I blame Steve Jobs! ;-)

i don't know if that would be a good spot.... probably would hang up on shore - but who knows?
