Has there been a picture of Nicole with her husband?

Bessie are you able to tell if the location is along I-12 between hwy 21 and
190? And, is the location north or south of the interstate? Thank you.

I listened to the archived state trooper dispatch tapes (public) today and the location was described as along side I-12, just westbound of the I-12 and Hwy 21 exit.

Hope that helps. Your map looks accurate to me - I live nearby.

New video here. Yellow flags at the site show body was dismembered. By the postion of the flags, I'm wondering if it was done by scavenging animals.

If this is true why the heck didn't we hear about him sooner?! I'm upset about that. People could have been on the lookout for him. Now he's had a week's headstart and could be anywhere (IF the report is true).

I'm about to blow a gasket!!!

The St. Tammany Sheriff's Office told WDSU the body was found after 5 p.m. on Interstate 12 at the 59 mile marker, near the Highway 21 exit.

The Coroner's Office will hold a news conference later this week regarding the found body.

A earlier story from another news station said they KNOW who the victim is. They are not releasing the name "to protect the investigation". SwampMama posted about previous DV calls at the home and that Nicole was trying to get her ex-husband out of the home the night she disappeared. LE has tried to find him and now he's gone.

Where is the BOLO for the ex that should plastered on every local news station in the area? Where's the plea from LE asking anyone who saw a vehicle or anything suspicious near Interstate 12 in the area the body was found?

And most heartbreaking to me of all, why didn't her Mom mention any of the history? Hiding domestic violence perpetuates it

That said, my heart aches for the children and her family, as I feel pretty strongly from LE's statements that the victim is Nicole.

Nola that article will just grab at your heart.
Her Mom took her oldest child to receive her First Communion on Saturday.
Four small children starting their lives without their Mom.....

This was my exit off the Interstate when I lived in Covington.

Westbound side of I-12 near mile marker 59 just before the Pinnacle Pkwy exit. North of I-12.

I'll move the thread to Located forum now. :(

I know - I have been so worried that the worst would become reality for this young mother. The news releases have been so sketchy - with only with her mom as the source of information. I have been bothered that LE stated from the beginning that they DID NOT expect foul play. I sent a message to Nicole's mom earlier this week inquiring about a local volunteer search - I did not receive a reply.
I can not imagine what this family is going through and it seems that her mom was just in shock that her responsible daughter would be missing. Her mom was the only voice in the media - LE has some catching up to do now.
The reports that I read seem to indicate a local sheriff's deputy discovered her body - as if they were searching for her.

As you know this exit is well traveled with the many new shopping centers now open off Hwy 21. Although I suppose there is more traffic approaching 21 from the east and returning back to the east than from the Hammond/Robert (west) on-ramp area. From the news video her body was found off the roadway a bit down a path- that may explain how a body could have been there for 7 days without being noticed.
Wonder why the sheriff's department were in that area looking for her on Sunday? Makes me think that they got a tip or something...

So sad for this family and for this community.

Here's a print version of what SwampMama heard earlier today:

Neighbors say the couple was involved in several domestic disputes, and deputies were often showing up to the home. In fact, neighbors also say Jefferson tried to kick her husband out of the home on the day she disappeared.

Knox I'm as puzzled and upset as you. A woman goes missing hours after a domestic dispute with an ex-husband and no one mentions him? I understand mom being in denial, perhaps, and not willing to face the possibilities. But why didn't LE issue a BOLO, like you say? Did they think she had voluntarily taken off just for kicks? I think that's what happeend, and when there was still no word after several days they finally started to pay attention.

Map of distance between Nicole's house and approximate location of body.

Coincidentally, another 31 year old woman died under mysterious circumstances in Covington today.

:( I just heard the news this evening about Nicole ... [I was out of town for weekend and did not keep up with local news.]

So I came here to WS first to get updates ... will watch the local news to see if they have anything new...

snipped from : http://www.nola.com/crime/index.ssf/2012/05/body_found_near_covington_is_m.html

According to Schilling, Jefferson shared a birthday dinner with her family in her backyard April 29. "Everything was fine," Schilling, 51, recounted. "We were opening gifts, celebrating a birthday. She said, 'Thank you for a wonderful party. Thank you for a wonderful day.'"

Jefferson failed to show up for her scheduled work shift April 30 at 3 a.m. and was not seen after. Schilling said she got a text message from her daughter's phone a few hours before she disappeared; but Jefferson left her van parked outside her residence, and she left her keys as well

BBM: What time was the birthday "dinner" on April 29 ? Any details on what happened after the birthday until she was to report to work ?

I wish there were MORE details ... the info is "sketchy" ...

Another thing I am puzzled about, as I see no reference to it is : Did anyone HEAR or SEE anything ? According to the article referenced, she lived in a townhouse in Greenleaves Subdivision.

Will check back for updates and will post if any new news ...

WWL, a local tv station has reported that multiple sources confirm it is Nicole, although the official declaration hasn't been made. Her body was discovered when the police department was searching that area. Not known why or how they knew to search the area.

This was the 10 o'clock news and may not be on their website yet.

If I sounded judgmental in my last post, I apologize. Not that kind of person. I do not have enough details to be able to form any kind of opinion. For all we know LE may have asked Nicole's Mother not to talk about the ex or the situation.

I recently went through an experience with an employee, who's daughter was seeing a guy who is not very nice. She was showing signs of physical abuse, but explained it away as sports injuries. Too me it was clear as bell what was happening, but the family accepted her explanations and basically ignored the situation. Last Thursday she ended up at the emergency room and the lies all ended when the Police Report was made. This had went on over the course of almost six months!! No amount of talking to him worked and it was very frustrating. I even spoke to his daughter in a very generic, non-prying way and got a smile and a hug ... no worries, she said.

I've seen way too many cases here at Websleuths, where women die because they think they can "handle" the situation. Most recently, Jacque Waller's case. She too, had an estranged husband and three young children. Her family also knew the situation was escalating, knew about threats he made. The day she turned up missing, they knew who was responsible and were very vocal about it in the media.

This case touched a nerve for me and ultimately the saddest thing is, innocent lives are forever changed. Nicole's children will never see their Mommy again. I wish I had a magic time machine to get a do-over for every single child who has lost a parent through domestic violence.

I posted it earlier dog.gone.cute, but I'm glad you re-posted.

Knox, I can't imagine that anyone would interpret your post as judgmental. It sounds like the voice of compassion to me. That link I posted about the other woman who died in Covington today, Bridgette Harveston? Looks like it will turn out to be another DV situation. The father of her two-month old infant is being questioned as a POI.

That townhouse was shared with her mother... they each lived in one side of it.
Her mother said that she felt like she should have heard something, but she did not.

:seeya: Good Morning,

Just jumping off your post here : The townhouses down here have "thin walls" ... you would think that she would have heard something ...

I have a relative that lives in Greenleaves Subdivision -- where Nicole lived in the townhouse ... it is a nice subdivision in Mandeville ... IIRC, there is one -- maybe two streets with townhomes ?? but the rest of that Subdivision is very nice homes ...

Everyone there must be "freaking out" ...

I hope they find the perp soon ...

Knox- I think we are all a bit frustrated with the lack of voice from LE to the public on this. But your comments were not taken as overtly harsh (my opinion) on LE. We all want resolution and justice for this young mother - your passion for that is understandable.

I'm left with so many questions. Probably because we still haven't heard from LE on this case - only reporters and Nicole's poor mom have made statements concerning this case. Her mom confirmed the identity, not LE. With no word from LE, it leaves the public wondering about their progress. Surely, they have the answers to our questions, but are staying mum.

These are my current thoughts/questions:
Nicole's mom says she received a text message from Nicole around 11pm Sunday night. Does anyone know if the cell phone has been recovered, or if it too (along with her debit card and keys) was located at her townhome? The mom gave the impression that she thought Nicole was home when whatever happened to her occurred (abduction/confrontation with ex, or whatever). Wonder why she thought Nicole was home?

With such incomplete details - was Nicole driving her van that night? Did her mom hear her vehicle return? ...and what did that last text say? Why did the mom fail to mention the ex? Did she and was it edited out or did LE instruct her not to? Where is the ex, now? why didn't LE question the ex last Monday (when the missing person report was filed? or, did they - I, too am hoping that LE has a better grip on this than is evident.

After living here since 2000, my experience is that St Tammany LE has always been tight lipped on their case work. One example is the discovery last year of a missing young man (car and body found in / near bayou, below a small bridge; what's eerie is that this accident occurred at the entrance to my neighborhood); only brief mentions of his disappearance - no local search made known to the public - and once found (by a jogger) a brief write up about his death (car accident related). His car went off Hwy 190 (Causeway Approach) in a well traveled area before 10pm- and NO one saw/reported the vehicle crash or the disturbance that his vehicle caused to the roadside/bridge and barriers. He was missing for months. This accident occurred within 2 miles of the state trooper's office.

All this to just say that I understand your comments and agree. :)
