''Edward Pettifer, 31, was one of 14 people killed when a pickup truck was driven through a crowd in the early hours of New Year’s Day.
In a statement posted on Instagram, Prince William said: “Catherine and I have been shocked and saddened by the tragic death of Ed Pettifer.
“Our thoughts and prayers remain with the Pettifer family and all those innocent people who have been tragically impacted by this horrific attack.”

Apparently the perp's grandparents hail from Lousiana. His father converted to Islam and changed his name:

Jabbar’s father, born Masterson Young, changed his name to Abdal Rahim Jabbar when he converted to Islam.

O

Oh that's interesting. So there is no familial connection to the ME.
I know it really doesn't matter, but I think it takes more effort to become exposed to radical ideas.

It was said that SDJ had severe financial problems. Traveling to and staying in Europe for a month is certainly not cheap. Who funded that trip I wonder? Himself or someone else?

JMO
Good question.
Hope LE are looking into his financial records as well as his electronic devices.
Omo.

A third source:

Law enforcement sources told The Post that they found videos Jabbar made where he referenced the Quran — Islam’s holy text.

Jabbar traveled to Egypt for 10 days last year, officials told The Post.

I'm not sure if they mean 2023 or 2024.

ugh so we have a week, 10 days, and a month ...
which one was it?

I've been thinking of McVeigh a lot since this most recent terror incident--mostly because he purchased the nitrite he used to make the bomb in my little Kansas town. The farmer's CO-OP where he bought it keeps sales records and several of my acquaintances were called in for interviews if they'd made purchases that day.

The FBI and ATF were all over my town, searching large buildings and talking to people. But no one knew much; we were just a stop along the way, I guess.
The Junction City motel was just pointed out to me on Friday driving past it!

BBM.
Multiple news reports confirmed agents returned to Jabbar’s mobile home Friday to seek more evidence after first raiding it Thursday. The structure was left unsecured overnight, with reporters and other curious onlookers walking inside.

The documents say that the New Orleans terrorist attack is the second deadliest attack on U.S. soil tied to a foreign terrorist organization since 9/11. The first was the Pulse Nightclub shooting, according to NBC.

According to NBC, the suspect used a "very rare explosive compound" that was found in the two IEDS placed in the French Quarter.
[snip]
Cahn said this new information will "absolutely change" how security protocols will be handled ahead of the Super Bowl.
"It absolutely changes everything," said Cahn. "It also changes everything for any security for major events across the country going forward."

I am very curious to hear more about this very rare compound. Was it something he sourced in the US, then compounded further for an explosive device? Was it something sourced outside of the US & was somehow smuggled in?

To be honest, it's disgraceful that the media is focusing on this as the problem, and not the fact that we live in a society where terrorists could kill us and our children at any moment.
We cannot control the actions of others, and it takes decades to implement changes that improve our society. In the meantime, it’s a disgrace to not utilize every resource you have available to protect your citizens from the rogue terrorists in the world. That’s why the media is focusing on this.

@BrianEntin

I know world moves on fast.

But 3 days ago 14 innocent people got mowed down by a terrorist in New Orleans on New Years.

How did the ISiS inspired Army veteran learn to make IEDs with a rare explosive compound?

Will someone take responsibility for the barricades not being up?

More on the fire at the New Orleans terrorists AirBnB:

Jabbar set fire in the hallway and placed accelerants throughout the house in his effort to destroy it and other evidence of his crime. Investigators found bomb-making material and a device suspected of being a silencer.

I know. I don't know why it's such a mystery!

The article states that this type of bomb has never been used in the US. Would like to know where it has been used.

“The entire family are devastated at the tragic news of Ed’s death in New Orleans. He was a wonderful son, brother, grandson, nephew and a friend to so many,” the family said in a statement issued by London’s Metropolitan Police.

Rest in peace, Edward !
:(

Hoping they can identify the remaining victim soon .
Imo.

Great question!

He told his family he was going because it was really cheap and beautiful. If someone else was footing the bill, I'm sure it was really cheap...for him. But travel to Eqypt isn't cheap for the rest of us, especially if we stay in decent hotels. Where did he stay? How did he get around? Who fed him?

GRT, take it from a person who has been in (I counted now - 36 countries), it becomes cheap. First, just before or after the season is cheap. Some layovers up to 3 or even 6 days cost nothing. (And the season is not always the best time of the year, the touristy season in Greece is hot, for example). Also, in many places, US three-star hotels equal four-stars and four -starts equal 4.5 i think. You acquire miles everywhere. A good example, from the same Greece: a dinner in a hotel overlooking a moonlit Acropolis is very expensive...well, you need it once in a lifetime, but the next days, follow the Greeks, and you'll end in family-owned restaurants, Greek food, local musicians and people dancing, all cheap. In fact, "follow the locals" ends up much cheaper. He probably did that in Europe. I would think that sitting at home, reading religious books and thinking ends up worse than traveling because in travels, you are constantly distracted by people. Egypt we haven't been to because of this war, but India was cheap and Taiwan is a poorly-known but great destination.

I would say that as a single guy living in Lousiana and earning 120K a year, he could do very well. His marriages and kids were the biggest drainer. But I doubt that anyone paid him. Rather, he put himself in a situation when he ended up living in a slum. My guess: he was shy and overpaid for smiles and hospitality.

As to the type, I think Mohammed Atta's types are very prone to being brainwashed and used by someone. Jabbar appears like this. His father is a super-devout Christian, he ended a super-devout Muslim, small surprise. It is what people extract from the religion, not the religion itself.

I have a slight suspicion that people who are more prone to hypnosis might be easier brainwashed, but not sure if there are studies proving it.

SBM. According to the media, it was his father who converted into Islam and changed to a Muslim sounding name. Perhaps the father reverted back to Christianity at some point, but kept the new name. The grandparents are from Louisiana.

Theoretically, it is unsafe to smuggle in explosives. Components of explosives to be combined with something on the spot can be smuggled in. But honestly, JMO, homemade recipes might be posted in many places. Maybe they are unusual for this country, but nothing super-fancy. The fact "never used in America or Europe" is more telling. I hope it rules out nukes, because a bomb was detonated in Nevada and before, Fermi's reactor burst up accidentally. If not nukes and nor Europe/US, it surely limits the options.
