I think Bourbon Street at 3:30 am is still busy. From the Earthcam shot of Bourbon Street farther east than the incident, there were clusters of NOPD officers on the street corners at that time and they reacted quickly enough to get to the perp before police cars could get there.

He didn't drive very far down Bourbon Street, not even a full block. His attack was limited by construction equipment and the barriers that were still up. I honestly don't think much could have stopped him when Canal Street opened up for the large amount of traffic they had.

Native here, 3:00AM in the French Quarter is early. Most bars don’t close. Young adults are drawn to the never ending supply.

I’ve witnessed people sitting at a bar at 5AM drinking. Many of the bars have open doors that you can see from the street. Not a good place for anyone in recovery.

Mardi Gras is horrendous in the French Quarter. Drinks are spilling out from balconies, and pretty much everywhere, there is visible drug activity and I’m too embarrassed to say what else freely takes place.

Why would an earlier time make any difference? Won’t it be just as busy?
I can only imagine the chaos in the city postponing the game is causing merchants, ticket holders, hotels, travel, etc. It's a stressful time and the sooner they get the game played and everyone out of the city the better. A day game may be safer too. All JMO

Do we know yet if Officers were physically in the cruiser when the truck went around, or apx where the Officers were located?
ETA: Nevermind - I just saw the video of the Officer exit the vehicle.
(17 seconds in Officer exits)

Elements of an IED
IEDs consist of a variety of components that include an initiator, switch, main charge, power source, and a container. IEDs may be surrounded by or packed with additional materials or “enhancements” such as nails, glass, or metal fragments designed to increase the amount of shrapnel propelled by the explosion.

Enhancements may also include other elements such as hazardous materials. An IED can be initiated by a variety of methods depending on the intended target.

Materials Used as Explosives in IEDs
Many commonly available materials, such as fertilizer, gunpowder, and
hydrogen peroxide, can be used as explosive materials in IEDs

Explosives must contain a fuel and an oxidizer, which provides the oxygen
needed to sustain the reaction. A common example is ANFO, a mixture of
ammonium nitrate, which acts as the oxidizer, and fuel oil (the fuel source).

Concern about the use of explosives created from liquid components that
can be transported in a stable form and mixed at the site of attack is the
reason that in 2006 the U.S. Department of Homeland Security restricted
the amount of liquids that passengers can carry on commercial aircraft.

"• The FBI said it doesn’t think the driver was “solely responsible.” Weapons, as well as “potential improvised explosive devices,” otherwise known as IEDs, were found in the vehicle, the FBI said. Officials also located IEDs in the area.

• The attack in the popular French Quarter happened less than a mile from where The Sugar Bowl was to be hosted Wednesday. The annual college football game was postponed for 24 hours for public safety reasons, the bowl’s CEO said."

Mr. Jabbar, who officials confirmed was honorably discharged from the Army, had converted to Islam at some point, according to Dwayne Marsh, who is married to Mr. Jabbar’s ex-wife Nakedra Charrlle. Mr. Jabbar and Ms. Charrlle had two daughters, ages 15 and 20, Mr. Marsh said, adding that “the girls are a mess” after the attack.

In recent months, he said, Mr. Jabbar had been acting erratically, “being all crazy, cutting his hair” after converting, Mr. Marsh said. Mr. Marsh and his wife then stopped allowing the daughters to spend time with Mr. Jabbar, he said.

Law enforcement officers have closed off a road leading to a Houston residence that records indicate was a recent address of the suspect in the New Orleans attack.

The white mobile home was behind a gate and in a small neighborhood where goats and ducks were roaming the grass

*November 2024 release:
Wonder if Jabbar knew this man.

About those barricades, it was said that instead of the normal metal ones that flimsier orange ones were placed.
However from the photo at the link of one of the metal barricades --they would not have stopped a pickup truck, imo.

Iirc, the truck was an EV -- so maybe heavier and prob. quieter :

FBI special agent Alethea Duncan said in a news conference on Wednesday afternoon that a black ISIS flag had been flying from the truck's rear bumper. The vehicle was an electric Ford pickup truck and appears to have been rented, the FBI said.

Amid his second divorce in 2022, he said he had racked up more than $16,000 in credit card debt paying court fees and expenses for a second home, according to an email to his ex-wife’s lawyer viewed by the Times.

“I cannot afford the house payment,” he wrote.

He added that his real estate business suffered more than $28,000 in losses the previous year.

These are all over Bourbon to close or block roads. These aren't the barricades they spoke about on the press conference.

I am wondering if the barriers they are referring to are the type that pop out of the ground? I live on a military base and we have them. If a car doesn't stop at the gate so the guard can check the person's ID, then they activate the barriers and they pop out of the ground. They are strudy and could be damaged if hit, but they definately stop cars and they are really difficult to go around with the location of them. I was imagining those type of barriers when I saw they were being worked on and not being used.

A video which may have already been uploaded of the killer sneaking through the police barricades which in this video appear to be the A-frame style ?
Easily evaded.
Imo.

I don't think so. They were steel columns as described in this article.
The project to remove and replace the bollards along about eight blocks of bustling Bourbon Street, from St. Ann Street to Canal Street, began Nov. 18, city documents show. Temporary asphalt patches were installed in the spots where the steel columns were removed, according to the documents.

Good observation.
I was imagining a concrete style of barrier.

Would the perp have known that in advance ?
Omo.

Ok, thanks for clarifying !

Most of the articles I've read seemed to reference the stick metal barriers, that I've uploaded the photo of.
Didn't want to hint that msm sometimes gets it wrong, you know ?
Omo.
