Wouldn't the important straw be gone already?

Not sure if important straw was removed. But if a body the size of LB was stored in that barn for couple of weeks, it would be difficult to clean up all the DNA. Especially if body fluids leaked out of the tarp.

We know that these guy were not good at clean up unless they burnt it. While the seats and carpet were destroyed, the Truck was glowing when luminol was used.

I know that Abro mentions in her book that someone ordered the straw removed and spread in the field. The date this occurred seemed to be around the same time SS was working on the homemade incinerator. Dates are important.

Dellen should have torched the barn with the Eliminator in it on the night he and CN went there.
He could have explained ownership of the Eliminator away as a business venture gone foul.
"And now the vandals ruined everything".

That's exactly what he said. Further, I believe Laura dropped off the dog and the money when they weren't home.
Thanks! While I was looking for the locks post I came across that info (parents not home) and meant to ask what the deal was with that.

This is the link to the post about the locks:

https://www.websleuths.com/forums/showthread.php?p=13709812

And yeah in at least 2 tweets it said they were either out at a family event and "they came home to find" dog/cash/etc. A few posts above the one I linked.

So how did they know she was "going on a trip"? Did she leave a note? Text or call after leaving her things?

I was in the courtroom until recess today.

A few observations:

Babcock family is doing surprisingly well. All things considered.

I was surprised at how meek and nerdy DM is in real life. He had a felt type suit jacket on today. It was way too big and looked like it may have belonged to an elderly man. He did a better job representing himself than I had assumed but has a long way to go. Seems to rely a lot on asking questions to the judge.

Brad Dean was a disappointing witness as he had clearly not brushed up on his police statements and got tripped up easily. You can see that DM is trying to prove that the witness said in a statement that he saw LB after July 3. And even pulled up a weird shot of himself with clam style suitcase.

I kept forgetting that Smich was in the room as his name didn’t come up at all.

Hi JPC. I would like to go down to the courthouse. Was the courtroom overflowing today? Did you have to line up for quite a while? I don’t want to make the long trek down there only to be turned away. Thank you.

SS was working on the homemade incinerator in 2012 and LE didn't look at the barn till 2013.
I think anyway. Correct me IIW.

She says "a home in Etobicoke", then later says It was her parents home......Laura could have told her it was anyone's home would she really have known otherwise? I wonder if the pings will line up with this....why say "A" home in ....and not say I took her to her parents home right off the bat?

This is true, but we do know she saw her parents June 30 and dropped off the dog. Could have gone to both I suppose.

You're too smart! They should have also abandoned and torched TBs truck but it's clear they thought they'd get away with it.

I was thinking more about when the Straw was removed in relation to when the body would have been stored. Obviously there was plenty of straw in the barn in 2013. The question is, was that straw in there before/after they may have stored the body.

If they moved the straw to the field because of fire hazard, why was there so much in 2013. Did they bring straw back in? And when?

More importantly, when was the straw in the barn taken to the field by employees. If it was just after LB's disappearance, did they detect an odor?

I think the sweetest act of humanity and normality all in the midst of a murder trial was today when LB's parents handed out Halloween candy to the Crown attorneys and the court officers as they re-entered the room after the morning break.

It was such a human, simple act for a family going through so much right now.
This reminds we of courthouse demeanour and stories of the Bosma clan.

The new incinerator was delivered to the Waterloo hangar early July 2012.

In regards to the board, I thought it odd that an LE Officer would just carry evidence unwrapped, just over his shoulder.
It looked like a paper grocery bag over one end. Not the usual way they handle evidence.

BBM - What is the usual way they handle evidence that you know of Oreck? TIA BTW I believe these bags are considered evidence bags and are used in most cases where they have to collect evidence.

Apparently these officers knew what they were doing while collecting evidence, and that is why they put a paper evidence bag over the end of the board...to protect possible evidence. As far as the stain on the board, which some of us wonder or suspect could have been evidence, lab techs were on site and would have done swabs and testing on site. If some things tested positive for certain things of relevance, they were packaged and taken into a lab for further testing. Perhaps they found the staining on the board was not bodily fluids but that of an oil substance or some other chemical or animal stain. The barn did house pigs prior to DM purchasing it. A tech would have swabbed that stain and if the results came back indicating possible evidence, the board would be packaged and taken to a lab for further testing. Whatever was on the end of the board, apparently they suspected it held evidence. Specifically the reason an evidence bag was secured to the end of the board ...to preserve and protect potential evidence.

Also, that officer could have been carrying that board over to the forensic tent to have it packaged, processed and sealed for the lab for further testing. As you can see by the photos, everyone appears to have taken all precautions to gear up with masks, hair nets, gloves and some wearing overalls. I think that it is a roll of the dice most days. It was my first time going and I arrived at 9:15 to go through round 1 of security. Made it up to the court room and waited for 20 mins to go in. There were about 10 people ahead of me. Apparently this was much less than most days. When we went out for the break there was a large group of students who had waited for 2 hrs so we were behind them. I abandoned and went home at that point. It sounds like some of my fellow WSers made it back in. The highlight of my day was after 4 years following these trials finally being able to put so,e faces to names that I have chatted with over here. [emoji177][emoji177][emoji177]

I would have thought they would have enveloped it in poly and scotch taped it, but your probably right.

Thanks Swedie, A question, why is the top of the board blanked out in the picture, and that board looks too new to be just laying around in a barn.
Lumber weathers and turns gray before long, that board looks quite new. Just an observance and a question.

  • #216
its not blacked out, that's a mirror from a police vehicle

I did not know Smich his phone records too , so he may have been there when DM killed Laura. He was part of it again .

MS is on trial for this as well as DM. Not sure what you mean by, "so he may have been there"?

The board was kept indoors of the barn. It would not get weathered or grey. It was also mentioned that it was not blanked out, it is a side view mirror of a vehicle, likely from forensics/police.

Really, Why would they stick a mirror to the end of that board???

There is a vehicle parked there, and the angle the photo was taken at, the mirror is in the way of the top of the board.
