Justice Michael Code says Meneses cannot attend court on Monday, and because things are progressing well -- he expects the Crown to rest its case potentially at the end of next week -- court will not sit on Monday.

"Have a good long weekend," he tells them.

If Cameron has no more Qs, why wouldn't cross begin now?

Yes, well thump...not what i was predicting at all. And why no cross right after? What the what???

But she did confirm they tested the Eliminator, told her to stay outta the way, and ties in to previous texts between DM and MS.

The jury has left the courtroom, so that's it for our blog today. We'll have a recap coming up a* little later today.

We'll be back Tuesday at 10 a.m. ET.

well that was a random end...

Again, he only told those witnesses "burned", not killed. Please correct with quote if I'm mistaken.

Cronin testified he'd never seen the 30-second clip of Smich rapping, but the lyrics were the same ones he heard five years ago.

Cronin was just 14 at the time and still in high school. He said he was hanging out with Smich and several other friends in Smich's mother's garage in Oakville, Ont., in August 2012, when Smich made a chilling confession.

Cronin testified Smich said he "killed a girl, burned a body, and disposed of it in a lake.... After that he sang us a rap song about it."

I am likely being self-centred in my want to hear ALL the info asap,
but if this case is ahead of schedule, isn't that a good opportunity to get ahead in the court schedule in general? Is that courtroom going to sit empty for the rest of the day and on monday?

  • #109
MM s testimony was important she said she saw the incinerator being used that they did not want her to be present. IF it was an animal I don't think they would tell her to stay in the car.
If I missed it I don't see any evidence that MS was present when Laura was killed. There is nothing to say how she was killed. One person who may have known something since we learned the father of DM had a bedroom beside DM s. He is not around now so it is a possible part of the motive for DM to kill a father , his father knew something about how Laura was killed.
We probably will never know, unless MS will testify and say he knows how Laura was killed by DM.
I am not sure about the case against MS. A lot of you probably know more about proving M1 beyond a reasonable doubt.

likely saves the Judge from saying "we need to take an early lunch so DM can prepare for cross" moo

I'm having trouble with the fact that not only had MM never met LB, but says she had never even heard of her.

If these elaborate plans were in motion for awhile, it seems hard to believe that MS (or even DM for that matter) wouldn't have even mentioned her name in passing while around MM. Especially if they were all living together (although the Crown didn't ask if she was living at Maple Gate on July 3/4...never even mentioned those dates - just Canada Day and then the incinerator night, where again a date wasn't specified, though we know it to be July 23).

Edit: she said she doesn't know where she was living at the time

Lisa Hepfner: "Canada Day 2012. Meneses was at "Dellen's house." #Millard had a party, "so we were drinking, smoking weed, doing drugs." Had some fireworks. She doesn't remember everyone there, but Christina "Dellen's girlfriend" was there, she recalls. Doesn't know where she was living then."

It looks like the case is moving along quite fast. Probably not many more witnesses for the crown. Hopefully, the defense will go fast too so this case can get to the jury. they have taken a lot of time off in this trial. One thing is that in this trial we know that MS and DM are already convicted of one murder.
I believe DM will be convicted again of M1, but I will say I am unsure about MS being convicted of M1 again.
I also was unsure MS would be convicted of M1 in the first trial.

The rap song is not good for MS.

Telling 2 guys about the murder is not good.

The phones being at Maplegate are not good.

Being in possession of LB's property is not good.

The texts themselves are not good and there are witnesses to back it up.

The Crown does not have to provide motive nor do they have to prove HOW someone was killed. They have to prove that a murder occurred and then prove who did it.

I have no trouble finding DM guilty. That's a no brainer.

MS, I'm not so sure. I'm hung up on the phone pings. I need clarification. If I can wrap my head around that, then I can find MS guilty as well. The Crown sure seems to think so.

Most likely! I have an issue with it also, you're not alone. The cross-examination should have taken place today.

I'm getting really nervous. MM did great, and likely told all that she knew today with the crown, and previously with LE. I knew she had never met LB or even knew who she was. But I think we were all really hoping that the crown would ask about July, 3rd and 4th, 2012, in hopes that it would tie in MS to being at the house.

What did the crown really establish today? And what in the next 3-4 days is going to be introduced to tie MS to this murder?

I suppose it doesn't look good for their story of pet incineration happening in broad daylight in parking lot plazas and have to hide it from MM. also they were in the barn for a while...

'Atta girl MM.

She told what she knew and only what she knew for the greater good - no embellishment, no hesitation, and delivered in a forthright, matter of fact way. The only thing that society can ask of her under the circumstances.

I like how she has other things to do than fret over her testimony or what anyone thinks of it - another 'atta girl for that!

  • #117
I'm sure it was extremely difficult for her to be up there, and see the man she once loved. It is not easy being in court, in these circumstances. Im sure she has also been instructed what and what not to include in her statement. The crown might not have been able to ask her about those nights, for some reason. Sometimes witnesses, and victims are instructed to leave out details because of lack of evidence etc. Hard to know for sure.

Probably the first time the farther was mentioned in more details...

Suspect MM truly does not recall the night of 3 July 2012 - she was asked about that for the first time in May 2013 or so. There might not have been any triggers for her to recall anything unusual - no sights/sounds that imprinted in her memory as being odd or out of place. Likely business as usual - seems to me DM would see to that.

I don't know what I did/saw/heard on 3 July 2017 - about 4 1/2 months ago.

Human memory, or lack of it is the best defense. Still hoping for DNA evidence.
