i know i'm a broken record about this, but i'm still steamed about the story RS just stuck in there about this incident when JA was 13 where someone held a knife to her throat. and he said THAT could be the assault by a stranger she was talking about on the test----in other words, maybe she WASN'T lying and going with the intruders story, but it was THIS incident she was referring to.

why didn't this register with the jury? wilmott just tossed it in there, RS acted like it was old news and they just went on. there's no re-cross so JM couldn't ask him about it.

so why didn't anyone ask about this?

I wondered this too. Didn't he say her brother told him the story? Who told the brother or did the brother witness the event? Is there a police report? Or was this something that happened within the family aka..abuse?

I'm curious: does anyone have a sense as to why these clips from the interrogation are being released now? Why not hold off until the court case is over?

Likely foia request from cnn

I hope Juan checks with Amazon to see if the book the Doc ordered for his best gal was sent to prison and not to him.

After his shenanigans with the raw test scores, I wouldn't doubt it if he got all gussied up and came 'a courtin' with a little gift.

I'm not joking.

yes, remember the married man that after talking to her for a short time, went back to chris hughes and told him he was going to get a divorce and leave his wife and kids for jodi? she has an uncanny affect on men, like a sorceress

Can we have a best of Juan thread please?

I'd like to highlight this, especially at 1:25:30ish
'Perhaps all Hispanics, their names all sound alike to him (Nurmi)'
'I'm going to object your honour'
'I'm not done yet'

Remember Doc Samuels testified that JA did not have nightmares?

Rut-roh.

ETA: PTSD symptom:

Recurrent nightmares awaken the person in a state of terror.

I've been having a lot of nightmares of the night I was strangled and I almost died. This morning I have blood claw marks on the right side of my neck.

PTSD self test. don't tell me we can't fake this to make us all seem like we are suffering. Everyone take the test! And these are samples of the type of questions. Just look at them, I can tell what it wants me to say, and if I say it I'm stressed :)

I dont mean to make light of PTSD, but in THIS CASE - she most definaitley could have fudged the answers to get the diagnosis.
EASILY!

Im just catching up on yesterday's proceedings, watching Juan question Samuels. He pulls no punches -- which is appropriate.

I can't help feeling a teensy bit sorry for the doc..ie. I feel "compassion," according to Webster

I "heard" that the email might have been sent by a male who wanted to date Lisa.

I disagree, I think that email's author was Jodi Arias. It sounds exactly like something she would say.

Afternoon Session. Questioning of Dr. Samuels by Ms. Wilmott.
[Missed first question.]
MCMI has a validity test. It is a pretty good determination of whether the person is lying on the test. . . The MCMI is scored by computer . . .very little room for error or bias. . . The hypotheses that evaluator makes is constantly changing. . .In an evaluation you may have an initial idea but that should never guide your outcome if you are properly trained.
Jodi said she first engaged in flight then fight.
My work was checked several times. . .Test result is not based on trauma but evaluations of levels of stress based on a lifetime. . .
Are questions 16 through 21 of PTSD test based on intruder story? Yes. If person continually lies to you do you make a diagnosis? No. Why did killing not bother her? If memory is not formed, it can’t bother you because you can’t remember. Can someone planning a murder suffer from PTSD? Possibly but not probably.
If Jodi was in fight or flight, why did she run into the closet and corner herself? She viewed it as a place to run through. Didn’t she want to get away from the danger? Yes, but if you can’t get away . . . If one’s life is being threatened, she might call someone if they were nearby, but no one else was there, running for help might take too long.
I can’t determine if Jodi had ASD or PTSD before June 4, 2008. . . Most symptoms occur afterwards. . .Might have had it before . . . I didn’t see the likelihood.
Someone who kills on purpose is less likely to get PTSD than killing by accident because unlikely to have fight-or-flight. . .but when life threatened more likely.
Is it possible Jodi didn’t write negative things in her journal because nothing negative happened? Their relationship was tumultuous based on emails, texts, writings, I found that unlikely.
Crime scene is disorganized, chaotic shows that more likely killing was unplanned.
I was thrown by prosecutor suggestion of needing to redo test for PTSD. . . No requirement to retest. . . I reviewed material. . . I thought test would remain the same.
How can you be sure that Jodi did things to please Travis when you couldn’t speak to him? I read emails, texts, listened to tape. . . she had a weak response to abusive behavior. . .Her writings did not indicate vindictive behavior. . . she was planning to meet another man, behavior not typical of jealousy.
We did talk about June 4, 2008. . .she did indicate that there was a time when she and Travis had altercation where he choked her. . . [afterwards] she would fear him when he got angry . . . she indicated tremors from the beginning. . .she told details of relationship from the beginning. . .she said they discussed marrying other people. . . they discussed his trip to Cancun. . .she had no problem not going to Cancun. . .once she moved away from Travis she felt better. . .not indicative of jealousy.

Remember Doc Samuels testified that JA did not have nightmares?

Rut-roh.

ETA: PTSD symptom:

Recurrent nightmares awaken the person in a state of terror.

Yes, nightmares that have smells and magnified color.

When I am under a bit of stress or something comes about that reminds me of certain situations, like a smell or time of day..anything, the nightmares are like being awake and reliving the episode. From crying, shaking and everything else you might have gone through at the time of the 'event'. I have been told, however, that working with PTSD is very hard because it could be one event on top of another. Until you get to the event that started the cycle, you are not actually fixing anything. You assimilate and learn to cope with those events, but until the major event is talked about or brought up it doesn't really do any good and takes a long time. Those ones that are the most ingrained and harder for the mind to handle, are harder to talk about and when you do you have physical symptoms just by talking about it. There are events that I can not speak about even years later because when I start to talk about them I cry and my heart beats faster, its very stressful. And then come the nightmares. I avoid them. I have done better with some of the overlapping issues, but the underlying events are still very difficult for 15 years later.

However, my issues stem from severe child abuse. Those memories are 40 years or more old. I have lived a life of avoiding and denial to the point where when my brothers or sisters bring up issues, I can not even speak about them. They distress me so much at 47 yo I still can not think about them without crying. I have not been diagnosed with PTSD though.

I wondered this too. Didn't he say her brother told him the story? Who told the brother or did the brother witness the event? Is there a police report? Or was this something that happened within the family aka..abuse?

Kelly

i read somewhere it was in an interview with the brother that samuels SAW---not that he conducted. even so, why didn't we ever hear this before? obvious answer is it's another LIE. we would've heard about some prior incident in her life this significant since we went over every second of her life in mind-numbing detail. but never before did we hear about this.

i'd like to think the jury just thought 'oh boy, here we go again....an answer for everything'. but it seems to me one of them, at least, should have been all over this. and yet, not one question about it. and that's what i would have asked-----is there a police report, was someone arrested, etc.

  • #952
It does! What is she, obsessed with Travis' family now? Or another way to thumb her nose at Travis by making money off his family?

I hope a lawsuit gets filed like they did to OJ, hopefully they can include her family members.

Obsession by proxy

I think maybe the one jury question about the attack by a stranger where it asked if the incident happened between 6 months and 3 years ago was referring to that. I think they wanted to show that they did not believe the incident at 13 happened, or did not believe it had anything to do with her test.

ETA - but it makes me angry, too, that they are just throwing things in there to try to justify their lying and cheating!!!

He had no problem offering her therapy and sympathy in the form of buying her a self help book because @ 250$ an hour, he was well aware that he was hired to be on Team Arias and accepted the offer. He was there to write a report the defense team specifically asked for, not to evaluate her from a non-biased professional standpoint. It was a scam from the get go.

I'm really confused about the book because yesterday, on cross, he said that he gave it to her at their first meeting. In previous testimony, he said that he bought it for through Amazon and that it was mailed to her directly from them. Which is it? Also, if he had it mailed to her, did he send it to her before he even had the first meeting?

Very confusing!

Thanks!

Remember what Abe said about his corny Mormon joke when he felt Jodi up (touching her rear through her pants) and felt thong underwear. He said, "Those are no magic underwear." Jodi said, "No, but there is magic in them."

Abe had Jodi's number because Jodi told Abe (after not seeing him for a good while) that Travis was mad about him. Abe knew that Jodi was just pushing Travis' buttons. Will Steve Carroll be taking the stand for Jodi?.....Jodi sure does love her movies, current and old. And she dang sure, doesn't live in reality.

It was after he met with her. He said she was talking about suicide and was depressed at their visit. So instead of notifying jail officials, he slid into the therapy role and bought her the book. Very unprofessional on a few levels. He was supposed to evaluate her only, not crossing the line into therapy. And, if she was talking about suicide he had the obligation as a professional to alert the medical/psych professionals in charge of her at the jail. He didn't. He claims...well, she was not immediately suicidal, she was just talking about it. What hogwash. That was a major lapse in his judgement and failure to act appropriately as a licensed Psychotherapist. He had the responsibility to turn the "talking suicidal" information over to those in charge of her mental health care, which every correctional facility has in place. He chose to act as though he was her therapist instead.

All good points/questions.

The ballistics expert (I can't recall her name offhand, apologies!) confirmed that the casing was indeed a Winchester brand item. Hoping to review her testimony this weekend to see if I can glean anything more from her info.

I am hoping there is some sort of gun-related evidence, however small, that answers or connects some of the loose ends all over this issue.

In my dreams, I imagine someone has found the gun... Hey it's fun to dream! No harm in it... :)

I need to do a bit of homework on the following but anyway, most likely JA's grandpa's gun was old. We have no info on this (fake) gun that TA owned but I would like to hear JA questioned about how old/new this gun was.
I don't know when(this is where my homework is needed) but at some point all guns manufactured are now test fired and when purchased they include the spent shell and they keep the test fired bullet for comparison purposes. For example, if this gun were a newer gun then there would be a bullet on file that matches the one fired, and if JA were asked specifically if this were a new gun and she answered yes then it could be proven to be a lie.

As I said I plan to do more homework about this but thought I'd mention it.
