On the last thread, there was a lot of discussion about the Hughes' emails to and from TA. I rewatched the testimony by Chris and Skye Hughes as well. I am confused as to why they would respond to Nurmi's emails that were obviously a fishing expedition. If they were truly Travis' friends, why did they speak to JA about Travis causing him to tell them they had crossed the line? Why would they believe Nurmi's insinuations that TA was a pedophile and respond?

Of all the things in this trial, this has me most concerned. Could their emails be enough to derail the conviction of JA? I know we are only hearing them characterized and not quoted, but will their words characterized by ALV be the coup de gras for the defense.

Well, I will not say that the emails can't have an impact on the case, especially if [and that's a big if] they say what they are characterized as, so far. However, let's evaluate the worst possible scenario, that the emails do in fact show that Skye and Chris told JA that Travis was a "womanizer," or something to that effect, and there is also evidence that they believed the "forged" letters of pedophilia.

Assuming all that gets to the jury, it still doesn't show that Travis was physically abusive to JA or anyone else. It also does not erase the testimony from Deanna and Mimi who said that Travis was never physically abusive. Nor does it erase any of the mountains of premeditation evidence that points ONLY to 1st degree murder.

As far as the "pedo" letters go...well, if they believed them then it only shows that they were duped. Imagine if someone called you and said, "Hey, you know that [insert a very close friend of yours] is a pedophile right? You would likely respond, "There's no way." But, if that same person told you, "Would it change your mind if we have letters, handwritten by your friend, that admits to being a pedophile?" I think any rational person would say, "Well, if that is true, then I guess I would have to believe it." You might not expect that those letters were actually not true. I don't think that kind of exchange would indicate anything about Chris and Skye somehow believing that they had suspicions, or were not surprised, or anything other than just being confronted with what "appeared" to be strong evidence.

IMO, all this will be flushed out and stamped out in rebuttal. Chris and Skye can certainly offer context that will dispel the "worst case scenario" that we can all imagine concerning these emails. I trust that JM will bring it all home in the end. :rocker::twocents:

This is very very close to the truth. :rocker:

Travis was repenting... but why the last rendez vous with Jodi on Jun4th? Why? Because Travis was the vulnerable one IMO.

Maybe that's why she stated it was either him or me... Because if the bishop found out Travis once again has sexual relations with Jodi this would be the last sacrifice?

The fact that Travis went to his bishop and confessed after JA moved back to Yreka means that he 1)promised not to see her again, and 2) was put on probation (possibly disfellowshipped which means can't receive communion or bless people)...but he wasn't excommunicated because he came forth voluntarily. If he sinned again, he would certainly be excommunicated unless there were mitigating circumstances (such as being tied up and forced).

We see this in his behavior when he did not follow through on his plans to visit JA in Yreka. He was sincere in his repentance.

When you understand that Jodi might not have known Travis had been to his bishop, you begin to see how the motive was accelerated for the murder. She shows up and he rejects her sexual advances. Over the following hours she learns that Mimi Hall has replaced her on the Cancun trip. She already knows he wants to get married but perhaps thinks the secret travels/sexcapades are going to continue regardless-- until she finds out he has been to the bishop without telling her.

In Mormon culture, it is considered a betrayal to go to the bishop and confess without giving your partner the opportunity to do the same thing concurrently, and thereby avoiding a perpetrator/victim view of the fornication. If you each go to your separate bishops at the same time, or both go to one bishop, it goes much easier on you If you say you are setting a wedding date, it will go very easy on you. Chances are you will not even be disfellowshipped.

With Travis putting his membership in jeopardy if he has sex with JA again, that clearly points to JA's motive to fake a sex scene to go with the phone sex in order to blackmail TA into silence. At this point, she knows she will not remain his girlfriend or his dirty little secret because he is not going to give up his membership for her--no way. That would ruin him at PPL as well. And his ability to sell a book would be nil. An excommunicated person sometimes can't even get work in Utah and some parts of Idaho and Arizona.

Her only chance to continue to prey on Mormon men and meet wealthy ones who don't know her low class morals and social status, is to silence Travis. He foolishly has threatened to expose her to all their friends for the things she has done and the stalking, etc. He knows she is a sociopath but somehow does not know they are DANGEROUS. If he follows through with his threat, she is back to living off tips in her grandmother's extra bedroom.

This is why he had to die. He refused to be silenced and she knew one foolproof way to maintain her ability to continue the Mormon/PPL goldmine she discovered and that was to kill him.

I am sure jealousy was a factor but survival as a female bombshell predator feeding on these virginal returned missionaries was paramount, imo.

:goodpost:What do we know about Travis going to the bishop? I'm not doubting, just interested in seeing that evidence, if possible.[/QUOTE]

During part 2 of the interrogation video: She starts one story, segues to a side track, sidetracks off that one, then takes another turn ... by that stage, there's like 10 stories lined up before we're going to get to the main question ... this gives her time to come up with a better lie, and this is how she hopes to avoid the original question .. and nearly every time she mentions a 'friend' they cop a little Jodi-judgement. Loving Flores' exasperated sighs throughout.

BBM: He deserves a Purple Heart or something for having to venture into enemy cray-cray territory and making it out alive!

On a more serious note, I picked up something I hadn't heard before. I don't recall if it's the first or second interrogation video, but Jodie mentions a storage unit where she keeps her stuff (ie some of her cameras) since her return home to Yreka. Is that true? Did law enforcement check it out or was it another one of her bullchit stories?

I love that part where she's going on and on about her cat scratching her and he says "enough about your cat...."

flores is a very good interrogator. i'm so impressed with him. he got her to relax and just talk away. he took her side. he acted like he understood her. he got her all loose and then he narrows down the conversation to the murder.

i have a lot of respect for him and the work he does. i especially love that he repeated several times that his job was to speak for travis. hats off to detective flores!

The DVR was listed on the police report as having a $40 value.
Why would DB need to buy a "hot" DVR from JA?
I could see him just giving her some $ but why just randomly buy a
from an x girlfriend out of the blue?

I don't think she sold it to him necessarily, as much as she gave it to him and moved it out of Yreka so it couldn't be traced.

Does it bother anyone else how Jodi is constantly spreading her legs during the interview? I can't stand it!! I can't imagine doing that--shifting around and spreading my legs when talking to a man I don't know...

Also, how she drapes herself on the table in a way that seems overly personal and intimate. Yuk.

i heard a friend of his one night on TV who supposedly discussed it with TA after JA moved back to yreka. he said he'd gone to the bishop and was in counseling about his relationship with her. that's all i know about it.

it won't come in, pretty sure. it's hearsay. and the bishop certainly won't talk about it.

I cringed, during JA's testimony, when she made it clear that he was obviously very experienced in giving female oral pleasure. That stood way out to me. I knew it would be used in her defense...as it (her remark) was just too obvious and out-of-place.

Yabut .. but ... but .... those are her words (known murdering liar). All through her testimony which sounds so scripted, there are little plants there for AVL to embellish. AVL's testimony is almost a complete regurgitation of the murder's testimony. :puke:

Eeeeaaaand ... can anybody direct me to any of the murder's testimony that gives any implication of "remorse" ... all I hear is ... me me me, I I I, my family this ... blah blah blah. Not one word of remorse for the family or Travis himself ... only for her and her family. She is a pathetic, evil excuse of a human being and is a waste of skin. I would love to see her get the DP. I have never felt stronger about this. I hope justice prevails in this case, although I'm feeling a little nervous, given the fiasco in Florida. :please:

Is it possible that one juror could be released? Has the judge restricted the areas that the jurors are allowed to hang out?

If she hasn't.. SHE SHOULD !!! :furious: :furious:

It could also be perceived as Nurmi doesn't really want to be there, so he doesn't care.

The guy can't even sit up straight or stand up when objecting. It's called lack of manners. A high level of education does not mean you have social skills or manners.

What have I learned today, you ask ;)

The defendant who is seen in the police interrogation videos has contradicted many many times the defendant who took the stand and testified for 18 long days.

Oh, what a tangled web we weave, when first we practice to deceive!

Watching the HLN special and JM just introduced the “62 crucial seconds”. IMO it doesn’t work because of the last picture showing JA’s foot and TA’s head beside it…..it doesn’t look like he is dead yet as we are being told. His throat doesn’t appear to have been cut yet, he is on his back holding his head up. Maybe this photo is right before that happened or who knows how long the actual killing went on. I’m guessing a lot longer than 62 seconds.

I completely agree. When my dad was a prosecutor..trust me he would've learned social manners in his courtroom.

The mit spec lady is like, I'm here, I'm here, please don't stab me!

I know it's been mentioned a bunch of times, but it's so funny to see Nurmi turn the entire back of his chair towards Jodi to keep her out of sightline of the jury. <modsnip>

I am only here for like 3 minutes tonight. And then heading out. but what is sticking in my mind is this she said she could not kill a spider. She said that to Matt. It was on the stand as far as the underwear. Spider Man underwear. I just cannot cannot cannot fathom a psychopath. And how they weave truth into every line. But it is again and again and again and again

I thought she looked like a little girl that got caught doing something she should not have. I did not see anything personal or intimate about the way she was draping herself on the table. And to a previous poster that noticed that JA was "spreading her legs"..Yuck..did not notice it but I usually do not look at people's legs to see if they are spreading them or not. Bad visual LOL!
