When you watch the trial videos keep an eye on Nurmi. He turns his chair so that his entire back is to Jodi. It appears that he is blocking all sight lines from the jury box. He's doing it on purpose to shield her from jurors view or he just can't stand to look at her. Or both.

Thank you! I thought there was one specific incident... You are right though! He probably is doing it for both reasons you stated. Keeping the jury from seeing her evil mannerisms is probably the only strategy left at this point.

EXACTLY. I think that her failed blatant attempts to seduce Det. Flores into believing her lies is the reason she is so contemptuous of him. She only referred to him as "Flores" on the stand. (and she referred to JM as "Juan.")

I wanted to tell her--Don't you mess with my Juan Martinez, beyotch!:furious:

I noticed that immediately Lieb. She didn't have enough ingrained respect/manners to refer to him as Detective Flores. :banghead:

And I do think she was trying to seduce him, dumb bit@h!!

S Hogan on JVM:

Travis had bought an engagement ring while in a previous relationship.
He had it in his house and somehow it went missing during the time the defendant was sneaking into his house.

Poor Travis....he was so naive and trusting. The only reason JA conned him into letting her 'clean' his house was so that she could snoop through his personal possessions. She would have done it for nothing but Travis insisted on paying her. I wonder if Travis confronted her about the ring....could have been another contributing factor to the murder.

I'm listening to the unedited video of Jodi's interrogation and at 2:49, she starts discussing her conversation with Skye Hughes, and what Skye told her about Travis, and discussing the email.

Just an FYI for whoever may care.

Here is the link to that video, since there are several of them.

Please help me understand why the defense did not want the amount spent known? How can that effect jodi? Can Juan bring that up in court now?

I haven't read their motion, but I'm assuming they are arguing that the billing shows "work product," which is privileged and not subject to disclosure to anyone. For example, they would write down on the billing form: "Travel to/from [store] to investigate theft of pop rocks and tootsie rolls, including meeting with store security and viewing store security video -- 2.0 hours." If this becomes public record, the State would see all the things they've been investigating and thereby the records might incriminate their client.

Doesn't JM have 2 girls TA dated on the witness list for rebuttal?

I wonder who they are? Maybe Deanna is one of them.

Their objection was not about the amount, but rather, what the money was spent on. The argument was that their strategy would be tipped by disclosing who (witnesses) they spent their money on. Knowing case strategy is generally categorized as "work product" which is not discoverable by the prosecution. The motion was denied, but no, Juan would most definitely not be able to comment on their billing in court.

It's very distracting as a viewer, so I can imagine that her hope was to distract Flores.

Too bad we can't ask ALV if that sort of behavior (seemingly flaunting/using her sexuality) is expected from a person to have been so physically, mentally, and sexually abused.

Jodi is so vulnerable. Her boundries are "fluid" and "blurred." Dontchaknow.

What do you think people would say if they ever saw your google history? My H always see's random things I have googled and laughs at me and says... I will just minnnnnd my business. lol.

My husband just wants me to make it very clear that Im the one that does most google searches. He has never taken me up on me telling him to look at the history and find the gross thing I look at. He said nahhhh that's your weird thing not mine.

Juan will no doubt bring this up in rebutal :great: hes touched on the bishop relationship briefly in past cross examination--and then moved on...its his way of "planting seeds" (ie 'being brilliant ')
moo
Good summary anagrammy! Juan would be proud of your hypothesis!

My understanding is that she contacted the bishop IN ARIZONA after she had moved to Yreka and after Travis was murdered, for the purpose of finding out what he knew.

She would never have gone to the bishop and confessed while Travis was still alive because her bishop would then have promptly contacted Travis' bishop and Travis would be called in.

The fact that Travis went to his bishop and confessed after JA moved back to Yreka means that he 1)promised not to see her again, and 2) was put on probation (possibly disfellowshipped which means can't receive communion or bless people)...but he wasn't excommunicated because he came forth voluntarily. If he sinned again, he would certainly be excommunicated unless there were mitigating circumstances (such as being tied up and forced).

We see this in his behavior when he did not follow through on his plans to visit JA in Yreka. He was sincere in his repentance.

When you understand that Jodi might not have known Travis had been to his bishop, you begin to see how the motive was accelerated for the murder. She shows up and he rejects her sexual advances. Over the following hours she learns that Mimi Hall has replaced her on the Cancun trip. She already knows he wants to get married but perhaps thinks the secret travels/sexcapades are going to continue regardless-- until she finds out he has been to the bishop without telling her.

In Mormon culture, it is considered a betrayal to go to the bishop and confess without giving your partner the opportunity to do the same thing concurrently, and thereby avoiding a perpetrator/victim view of the fornication. If you each go to your separate bishops at the same time, or both go to one bishop, it goes much easier on you If you say you are setting a wedding date, it will go very easy on you. Chances are you will not even be disfellowshipped.

With Travis putting his membership in jeopardy if he has sex with JA again, that clearly points to JA's motive to fake a sex scene to go with the phone sex in order to blackmail TA into silence. At this point, she knows she will not remain his girlfriend or his dirty little secret because he is not going to give up his membership for her--no way. That would ruin him at PPL as well. And his ability to sell a book would be nil. An excommunicated person sometimes can't even get work in Utah and some parts of Idaho and Arizona.

Her only chance to continue to prey on Mormon men and meet wealthy ones who don't know her low class morals and social status, is to silence Travis. He foolishly has threatened to expose her to all their friends for the things she has done and the stalking, etc. He knows she is a sociopath but somehow does not know they are DANGEROUS. If he follows through with his threat, she is back to living off tips in her grandmother's extra bedroom.

This is why he had to die. He refused to be silenced and she knew one foolproof way to maintain her ability to continue the Mormon/PPL goldmine she discovered and that was to kill him.

I am sure jealousy was a factor but survival as a female bombshell predator feeding on these virginal returned missionaries was paramount, imo.

In Alabama, a "representative" of the victim can sit with prosecutors. I always like for the detective to sit with me. It shows to the jury he/she is interested in the case, it makes the jury feel "accountable" to him/her, and he/she is at times a huge help during trial.

Cant imagine what you went thru. You are in my prayers.

I guess that raises another question -- is self-defense a reasonable defense if one thinks one is threatened -- when in reality that person is NOT threatened?

In other words -- I think the DT is trying to say that JA felt threatened because of her PTSD and so she attacked. But the facts don't support that she was threatened -- she had no wounds except for minor ones (finger cuts) showing she wasn't under a life threatening situation. Does it really matter (legally) if she thought she was if she wasn't?

Hope that makes sense! I'm trying to look at this from a purely legal POV. Back into :lurk: mode

For that to be true, that she felt (due to her PretendTSD) threatened enough to use that much force to defend herself, she would have to be literally psychotic. She'd be seeing monsters and hearing voices. I don't think we'd be here if her mind was that far gone.

I believe the standard talks about what a reasonable person would do. A fight in the kitchen and one or two stab wounds and a call to 911 would be a reasonable response (maybe) if every single thing she said was true. And nothing she said was true.

hello all!
i may be wrong but, if i were a juror the last thing i would be doing is sitting around the court house at the end of the day. to my car and out of there. all day sitting waiting, waiting sitting. can't imagine lounging on a bench eating ice cream at the end of the day. really? jmo

Maybe waiting for a ride?

It might show how many times someone has dropped her case!
I think this is a great theory, but I do have a question.

Do we know that Travis spoke to his Bishop in a way that is consistent with this timeline? I don't remember any testimony of this kind; and I can't imagine that a church official would ever testify to a confession in court -- I know I didn't hear that. I'm interested and think this is certainly intriguing -- but can we substantiate (based on evidence) the essential element here -- the bishop's involvement?

In addition, some responses to your post suggest that if she had gone to her bishop, Travis' bishop would have been notified quickly; why not the other way around? If he had gone to his, why would she need to hear that from him after sneaking in at 4:00 in the morning? Wouldn't she already have received some kind of summons (or however they handle that)?

Just asking. If you folks know, let me know, because this is definitely intriguing.

:cow:
She had just moved. Perhaps she didn't have a new one yet?
Hadn't checked in there with them...:dunno:

At 1:25 in this video. They were accidentally shown by the court camera during a hearing. No audio

Do not say I didn't warn you.

Yes, but how do we know Travis had contacted his Bishop? I know there has been lots of reasonable discussion about his desire to get serious about marriage after turning 30, and some speculation about his guilt regarding his activities with JA, but I am just curious if we know that he had contacted his Bishop regarding the matter, actually confessed, and thus the theory above might be possible...

Kinda off topic now but my Dad was shot in the head, 38 I believe, went thru the skull but didn't enter the brain, he went down on one knee but asked me just to let him know if his head was still there. In other words, it was so disorienting and powerful that he thought his head was gone.

Just thought that was powerful as to those who think gun shot came first.

That was wonderful brother in law 1. 2 actually murdered.
