Re-cross -

Do you know what happened to the fireplace? No.
The blue foam, could that be to protect young children? Yes.

Ooof. I've had to turn my sound down a bit with this guy.

He turned their living room into a dead room.

Right there next to children's chairs.

I always like it when the witness interacts with the jury. He's incredibly smart but is explaining things in lay terms to the jury. I like him.

The Defense has a few questions.

Of course he does.

I hope I can make it through the end of trial without learning his name.

It is good to have goals.

So his huge blunder is blaming her death on sudden unexpected death in bed. He should have said she tripped and hit her face on the fireplace before he panicked.

I'll edit this to say....he should have lied and said he found her after she slit her wrists or committed suicide in some bloody way. And then he hid her body to protect her children from knowing that's how their mother died. Still ridiculous but there's maybe a tiny, miniscule chance that some jury that might have bought this version of events.

Exactly.

BW's whole defense: she died in bed of natural causes.

Yet, with the help of the Defense, it's clear there's no evidence in the bedroom.

She didn't die in the bedroom.

She died in the living room.

While BW washed dishes... well, if'n you believe that.

The argument (that I think occurred when -- again, I think -- she told him she wanted to move forward without him) probably started while she was doing the NYE dishes.

I don't know what kind of flooring they had, but I have wood grain planking that is specifically engineered to be waterproof. If the rug absorbed most of any blood lost to violence, and hydrogen peroxide destroyed any blood that soaked through (as well as the very finish on the flooring), it's possible that no blood seeped into the floor boards.

True. I still would like to know how the SUD came into play. Were the defense attorney's telling BW, well you know there is such a thing as SUD that could technically explain away her death and then let's say you panicked and we could plead that down separately so the jury wouldn't even know that happened....

But I still think it's quite a leap to begin searching about how long it was going to take to get the money on the day your wife died.
They know he is a liar. They listened to countless interviews of him lying and lying to LE, friends, co-workers of hers, lying about his kid who saw her leave. So calm and measured in those interviews.
They also knew he was facing time in his what was it - art FRAUD case.

Will we hear more about the clots that were recovered? From the next witness?

Iiuc dead bodies don't bleed. Dead bodies don't clot.

Maybe BW will adjust his narrative one more time. He just thought she was dead.

The Defense is not going to like this next witness.

(Which is why they apparently want to voir dire him. Which is how we know it's a solid witness and the Defense isn't.)

I have tile wood look planks. Off to google will blood seep into grout. Will blood seep into grout after it is sealed. How to clean blood out of grout. Will I look pretty if I am accused of murder. Will getting my floors professionally cleaned remove blood from grout.

It's insurmountable.

The lack of forensics isn't because she died suddenly, without blood loss, but because the crime occurred in an area that was cleaned extensively with bleach.

There is no mystery.
