Quote was by prolific serial killer/sexual predator Israel Keyes, bourne..
I posted the quote of IK's to show that many, if not most sadistic psychopaths have two selves; a good self and an evil self....
Imo, CP has two selves; one self that he presents in public, and another rage filled self that only emerges and is seen by his innocent victim/s..
Thanks for the clarification Foxfire!
I believe that we each have many, varied aspects of ourselves -- some good, some bad, some neutral -- and that at any given point in time, we choose which aspect of ourselves to evince depending upon the circumstances and the types of people we are with.
Nonetheless, I believe the majority of people in society do not harbor a *murderous monster* side in them that we keep hidden from others. I believe yes, we are each capable of doing aggressive, even violent things but that most of us have a threshold of self-restraint that we do not cross, a type of *moral compass* that keeps us grounded and in line with what is right and good -- except when a situation calls for immediate self-preservation or self-defense for which violence may be the only recourse.
I believe this because reality bears this fact, our more peaceful natures, out. If this were not true, the world would be running amok every single second with savagery and violence at every turn...and there'd be few if any human beings left on earth.
In short, IDK what to believe about PC. IDK if he is a monster of the psychopathic sort, a "serial killer" in the making (or already in progress) and that he had committed all types of heinous acts in the past, or that the rape/murder of CR was a one-time, isolated incident...
I hope his psychological profile will be published in the media so that we can learn something more about him, e.g., what were his triggers and how we could have stopped him from acting out on them. If anything constructive can be garnered from this, it should be ways to *prevent* this sort of violence from erupting from another person (teen, adult, or even child)...Along the same vein, it was most unfortunate that nothing could be obtained from Adam Lanza's mental history that would have predicted his violent rampage against school children/teachers.
I've of the mindset that if we can identify certain patterns of attitudes/cognitions/behaviors in violent people, we may be able to point out risk factors for violence and prevent if not altogether curb their violent rages against innocent people or even towards themselves.
