There it is. The suspect and Nuno Loureiro were both in physics and attended the same university in Portugal!!
(from the Brown U presser)
about halfway through the video in the article, it shows a man turning the corner and walking down the street
is that the suspect or a cop?
Knowing why he took a leave of absence might be the key to the motive of his heinous crimes TWO DECADES later.''Neves Valente entered the country in 2000 on a student F-1 visa. He was admitted as a lawful permanent resident in 2017.![]()
Suspect found. What to know about Brown University shooter
Authorities announced they tracked down the man responsible for the deadly Brown University shooting that rocked the Ivy League institution.ca.news.yahoo.com
Brown officials say he was a PhD student before taking a leave of absence in April 2001. He withdrew on July 31, 2003. Neves Valente's last known address was in Miami, according to police.''

A still image of Claudio Manuel Neves Valente, 48, the suspected Brown University shooter at an Alamo Car Rental facility in Boston on Nov. 17, 2025.
''An affidavit says police cracked the case after a tipster recognized a rental car circling the area. He gave police the description of the gray Nissan Altima and license plate. Police then tracked down images of Neves Valente renting the car at an Alamo location in Boston.''
''Claudio Neves Valente, 48, a former Brown student and Portuguese national, was found dead Thursday evening from a self-inflicted gunshot wound, Col. Oscar Perez, the Providence police chief, said at a news conference. Perez said as far as investigators know, the suspect acted alone.
Investigators believe Valente is responsible for both the shooting at Brown and the killing of a Massachusetts Institute of Technology professor who was fatally shot in his Brookline home Monday, U.S. attorney for Massachusetts Leah B. Foley said.''
Strong possibilities and good thoughts.I'm waiting for information to be released on whether Neves Valente had been in contact with Dr. Loureiro in the last few months. If Dr. Loureiro was aware Neves Valente was in the area, he may have recognized Neves Valente as the suspect in the videos and photos from Providence
Hmmmm, we'll have to wait & see. Interesting...
Hmmmm. Interesting bit of news...There it is. The suspect and Nuno Loureiro were both in physics and attended the same university in Portugal!!

That is a very interesting theory. Any update on whether Valente had any contact with Loureiro before the Brown shootings? Didn’t I read upthread that Valente rented a place near Loureiro? The affidavit on the Rhode Island Attorney General's page gives an address associated with Neves-Valente as 1079 Commonwealth Ave in Boston.

That's an apartment building called the Atrium on Commonwealth. It is 2 blocks from Gibbs St, Brookline, where Dr. Loureiro lived. He knew the neighborhood where Dr. Loureiro lived or the exact address when he chose the Atrium.
I'm waiting for the US Attorney for Massachusetts to release information on whether Neves Valente came to New England with the intention to kill Dr. Loureiro or if he only became a target after the shooting at Brown.
Neves Valente was dismissed from a post at the institute they both attended in Lisbon. Then, he began a Ph.D. program in physics at Brown but left after one academic year. Dr. Loureiro, in contrast, earned a Ph.D. in London, achieved prominence in the field at MIT, married and had 3 children. Neves Valente may have nursed a grudge against Dr. Loureiro for decades; or he may have resented Dr. Loureiro, who epitomized everything Neves Valente wanted but wasn't able to achieve. IMO. The news that Dr. Loureiro was named director of the prestigious plasma science center at the premier university in the field made the discrepancy stark. It may have prompted Neves Valente from fantasizing to preparation.
Alternatively, killing Dr. Loureiro may not have been part of the shooter's plan when he came north. The shooter cased Brown for weeks, indicating it was a target all along. But I'm waiting for information to be released on whether Neves
Valente had been in contact with Dr. Loureiro in the last few months. If Dr. Loureiro was aware Neves Valente was in the area, he may have recognized Neves Valente as the suspect in the videos and photos from Providence. The shooter's gait, mannerisms, and jacket were distinctive. It's possible Dr. Loureiro recognized the Brown shooter in the enhanced videos and images. Or Neves Valente thought he might identify him and murdered him to prevent it. MOO.
