MIT professor shot, killed at his home in Boston suburbs: Officials
A professor at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology has been shot and killed at his home, authorities said.
Neighbors in the Boston-area community where MIT professor Nuno Louriero was shot to death inside his apartment building earlier this week said they were stunned by the mysterious killing.
Loureiro was gunned down at the entrance to his Brookline apartment on Monday night, the Norfolk District Attorney’s Office said in a statement. He was subsequently transported to a local hospital, where he was pronounced dead Tuesday morning.

MIT nuclear science professor shot, killed in Brookline home

This is a very safe area. A condo in this building went for 1.4m in 2018 2175sf 3 bd/2 bath. I have no idea which unit he and his family occupied or whetherr they rented or owned or what. Boston metro is expensive.

I am wondering about access to the building. It's a multi family condo/apt building. I don't see a buzzer system outside the door on the exterior so I am thinking there is another interior door before entry with the email boxes and a buzzer system.
Did someone ring up the victims unit,a person known or unknown and the victim, he then either buzzed them in and went to meet them, or he went out of his unit to greet them, or find out who they were. And bingo. Maybe he left his door open in his unit and that was his baby crying. I don't know.
Whoever was the shooter was was not concerned with noise as many heard the gun shot - so no silencer.
I have not read anything anywhere about camera's. The time of the shooting seems odd - 830 ish at nght and at his house. Dense neighborhood. I would think easier in a parking lot somewhere or a more isolated less populated area.
Kind of just thinking out loud on paper. Seems more like a disgruntled spur of the moment liquid courage moment type killer vs a hit.
The holidays really seem to unnerve people

MIT professor fatally shot on Gibbs Street - Brookline.NewsLoureiro is listed as the owner of a unit in the apartment building at 9 Gibbs St., according to county records.
From these 2 comments in the same article, it's not clear exactly where Nuno was shot. Is it possible that it was in the 'lobby' of the building? or was it just inside the entrance of his specific apartment?

And, just like others, I haven't seen any mention of his family. I don't know if he lived with his kids.

Agreed. And there's a different response to this one. There's news coverage but no release of video footage or stills, and there's little public information. It sounds melodramatic, but I am a bit...nervous about... the fact that we already have an unknown shooter attacking an educational institution in New England, and then this also happens. Completely MOO.
Yeah it’s definitely surreal living within 90 minutes of both of these attacks (less than hour from Boston). I’m not going to go about my life any differently especially since I do not fit into the demographic of the victims of either attack, but it’s obviously still a little unsettling. Just have to have faith that the police know more than they are letting on and are closing in on a suspect. It sounds melodramatic, but I am a bit...nervous about... the fact that we already have an unknown shooter attacking an educational institution in New England, and then this also happens.
