Regarding different apps and tools LE can use to trace someone's recent paths...I recently realized one of the apps on my phone (Tripadvisor) not only tracks everywhere I have been in real time but makes little maps for me to be able to go back and see my routes since the time I downloaded the app. It states only I can see my timeline but LE can use this type of info to glean more knowledge about a victims patterns and maybe more .
Also has me wondering how diificult it would be for someone else to get this info ...

That's kind of creepy.

The thing is though, her family claimed her phone pinged at the cell tower, they wouldn't have had her phone to look back at an app like this. It seems to me it would have to be more like an app that connected her phone to her moms phone.

I wish we had a much better clue what they meant by ping. It could be she texted them at that time, it could be just a find my phone app that gave that as the last location before it was turned off. .... So many possibilities it's really hard to say.

Yikes! I rarely have my location setting on. I wonder if I'm safe from prying eyes.

Church may also hold a clue...Princeton is a church heavy town it seems and the crime was committed on a Sunday...albeit in the afternoon, but still...if the perp is a local maybe church somehow hid his activity from his social circle...church may have taken some potential bystanders off the roads...

There are only two churches I know of in Princeton. And one I don't know of anyone who goes to it.
What makes you think the town is church heavy?

Church is also usually Sunday mornings. This crime took place in the afternoon.

Google turns up four: Heritage Bible, St. Mary's, Prince of Peace, and First Congregational. I have no opinion as to whether that makes it church heavy.

Church is in the morning, but then there is usually a potluck, or everyone heads to a diner/restaurant: that keeps some people around 1-2:30 pm from running to home depot or Target or jogging or whatever. It keeps things quieter in communities that attend church. My point being if a Sunday gets kind of busy, it's usually around 4-6. If the perp is young and local, there is a chance his parents are busy with church and post church activities and aren't paying attention. If the perp doesn't go to church and is older, the town is pretty quiet...

And this has been of interest to me all along. Think of all the apps we download. I have so many and make a dilagent effort to keep location services turned off. I'm tech savvy. Yet, I still often find certain apps tracking my location. Google maps for one is always turning tracking back on. It's how the map apps know how bad traffic is on the road. Wouldn't you think map data could be aggregated to cross check people's paths and come up with a hit? I'm not saying it's legal, but what would "Google" care about this?? I'm just pondering - and its worthless commentary. But would a similar path hit to VMs be considered circumstantial enough to subpoena a name? Is this too "minority report" like? I have to believe the information exists to solve crimes like this.

No, I'm not a rapist or an abductor. But if I were, probably the one thing I would not bring with me would be my phone.

And for VMs phone, I would destroy that immediately. That would have to go into water where all circuits fry. It would be a body of water very close by. Did they have dive teams out there?

All the data remains in the cloud regardless if they disgard the phone. They can get everything but the fingerprints.

St Mary's is in Holden on Princeton STREET not in the town of Princeton.

The address is Jefferson Ma, but that is just part of Holden, yet still has its own post office.

But the phone stops transmitting when it dies. Where did it die and why don't they have it. And I'm not talking about the last cell tower ping. I'm talking about the last gps query anyone of those apps on her phone made. From within a couple of meters of its final resting place.

Well, Google did say Princeton MA, but obviously you know better than they do since you live there.

I am still dwelling on why the brother of "socks dude" called the police when his brother didn't show for work. This is such a flag, IMO. Just really odd, and the timing....
Seems to me the brother knows something we don't?
I've thought the same. Another thought is when filmed the camera is held down, obviously not wanting to be recognized on camera but has anyone thought that perhaps he was more more concerned with cuts and bruises being visible ? Yet I suppose that information would have leaked out via the reporter by now ? Yes,the brother calling the police is odd and the remarks about him having fought with his mother ( excuse for cuts and bruising ) is odd. Not many young people turn off their phones either
. All of it seems out of the ordinary. I just feel this person who raped/ murdered her knew her in some capacity, not personally just through association, having perhaps seen her about and became fixated, becoming familiar with her routine.

Yes that's exactly what I was trying to say...in terms of why they wouldn't have given out info on a specific vehicle type of interest.
Yes absolutely, and actually a very good strategy. As much as it is frustrating for the public, especially the immediate community, this keeping information " close to the vest " allows credible information to surface and often for the perpetrator, or those that are accomplices after the fact to " say the wrong thing" ( something not made public ) - more detailed location of burns or other signature marks on her body. I've said it before and I stand by this " Loose Lips Sink Ships "..... And the shoe left behind, this guy left in a hurry. Could be that he felt the fire still burning would draw attention. It's been a very dry summer..smoke !
*** In fact he could have put out the fire because of the smoke and ran off in a hurry, leaving or dropping the shoe.

I have read here that a shoe was left behind, but I haven't heard anything about that in the news. Does anyone have a link? I know there was a shoe left behind in the queens murder.
As far as VMs phone, I am not sure if police have it or not, however I wouldn't be surprised if that was burned as well. That would destroy it, the same as throwing it into water, with less evidence left behind.
I agree with you that he left in a hurry. Nothing to base this on but, if he did put out the fire, how did he do that? unless there was sand surrounding the area, not sure how otherwise. I think he just left it burning, and it went out on its own. In the photos, the scene is surrounded by green vegetation, and that may have kept the fire from spreading, combined with fuel starvation. Also in the photos, it doesn't look like someone threw sand, but again, I am sure LE has most of the fire contents at the crime lab.

I'm thinking they didn't show his face because he is a minor, perhaps. That would align with the profile of a pyro, who are typically younger.

Family of 2007 murder victim concerned about parallel to new case
Bob Ward reports for Fox 25 News

on Sep 6 16 @ 6:47 pm

'That today is Danielle Oliverio's birthday', since her horrific murder in 2007, nine years ago, still an open investigation. Though LE hasn't connected her case to Vanessa's murder, Danielle's very brave loving 'brother is concerned' and recalls possible similarities to Mr. Ward.

"According to the death certificate, Oliverio may have been alive when she was set on fire.

[...]

no suspects and no real developments. Danielle Oliverio was a 26-year-old single mother at the time she was killed."

['there was smoke found in her lungs' according to her brother]

(Note to self) burned mom found in VT

When I type in churches in Princeton on google it only brings up three:

image.jpg

Not sure what you googled, but if St Mary's came out its probably only cause it's on Princeton St, and you looked at it quick and assumed it was in the town of Princeton.

But as someone who grew up here, lived in Jefferson and went to St Mary's I can tell you with 100% certainty that church is definetly in Holden not in Princeton. It's actually the only Catholic Church in Holden and was built over a hundred years ago specifically in Jefferson section because the town of Holden refused to have a Catholic Church placed anywhere else.

I dunno I read this article:
http://www.lowellsun.com/ci_5194052

And it feels like it's a real stretch connecting these murders. I guess it's possible but the MO seems very different, the location isn't near Princeton or even remotely similar in areas....and according to that article there were other north shore murders that where much more similar to that crime...but don't feel as similar to VM's murder.

Also DO doesn't appear to have been wrapped it rather extensively beaten.
