Preparing for body find. This way we know much more about what staff are doing what by traing. I figured some folks who are following incidents similliar to Zac, woud have reference as to the case they are interested in !

All your posts are informative and interesting. Good to know. And if coroners don't have decent training, I wonder if some of these drownings that were ruled accidental were not.

It's easy to understand what happened now. He was either walking down the center of the track or tried to cross over from one side to the other and didn't realize it was open to the water below. In the dark, it may have been impossible to realize that the area in the center of the track was open to the water below, especially if one had been drinking and wasn't really paying attention, or was in a hurry due to the cold.

Tragic accident, plain and simple.

Yes, it's easy to see how it happened. I can't imagine that moment of fright when Zach realised he was stepping into thin air. :( I actually almost hope he bumped his head on the way through the gap and knew nothing about it.

TY! That is why I posted it, I was thinking the same thing, And I am going to do" it " check to see if some were corn or med exam - to me also --I think a lot were wrong!

Am I saying all of them were any one thing . No. While at the same time with the exception of one (took parents 4 years to get it to homicide) for them all to be drunk accident is just as messed up as me saying all suicide, or homicide, all falls or Smiley Face stuff is just as wrong IMO.

I do think they were a mixture. With too big a "pattern" for many of them not to be serial.

There is a MO here -- white, popular, collage educated, in 20's, not ugly, no obesity, athletic, out with friends, appearing happy in numbing cold.

I found race especiallly curious: Between 2005 and 2009, the fatal unintentional drowning rate for African Americans was significantly higher than that of whites across all ages.

At some level that is compelling.

In addition, the majority of them were in very cold months. Less people out and about in general.

But, if you think about it Spring break and summer make more sense to be outside, drinking with your buds, cruising woman. Less clothes --check out their "bods"--sounding as old as I am huh!

Everyone has slipped or fallen. Most of the time we would get an abrasion or a bruise. Bump on the head etc etc.

Makes no sense they all of em are being repoprted as having nothing. "Placing" a deceased person in some water , on the other hand.....................

Link posted earlier, one guy was found with with his neck at a 90 degree angle, an impossiblity in an accidental drowning was ruled accidnetal.

Another one, who "supposedly" fell off a bridge, his shirt was still tucked in??

There were two that were like champaign swimmers??

One was in an armed services postion on a cruiser ship - I would think that water "survival" would be a component of training if your living on a ship most of your life.

Woman, in cold places, go to bars and parties, with friends, college age , and drink also .-------------???

So do Africian Americans.

A lot of them were imersed for some time. All reports state high BAL? From folks that know , or should , that death makes alcohol.

Map wise it sure does seem like a major highway is easily visible. 18 Wheeler?

In Zachs case, on a video tape , in the dark, from a distance, would a purposeful step in the hole look different?

With the distance he went, one would come to the conclusion that he had some cognitive capacity. There has been no report of via cameras he appearred sloppily inebritated.

When found, one would think there would be an injury of the head if a slip. In the crack many think. Ones body would fall back if took a step and there was nothing to step on below.

It will be inteersting to see if this is another "no" injuries noted case. 10253

I wish we could see the video of Zach outside the BiH.

i've been thinking a lot about this situation and i have to say, i am conflicted...

i hate the BIH — truly it is one of the worst bars in an area, but in thinking about who is to "blame" i am having a hard time saying it's them based solely on the info released in MSM by family and LE. i think it is very possible he left to smoke and either the bouncers told him on the way out there was no re-entry or he saw bouncers turning people away. he may have figured, whatever, "ill just tell my cousins to meet me outside so i dont have to push through the crowds again anyway," and sadly greatly underestimated how long it takes to get out of a bar on a Friday night at last call.

i am not surprised that a bar wouldnt let people back in after 1:30, nor do i really blame them. in that area especially, there are a lot of drunken buttholes at the end of the night. people who will lie about pretty much anything to get into a bar. i have lived in MA for 15 years, both western MA and boston, and visited towns all over our great state and I can say that last call policies (in my experience) have been pretty consistent all over. last call is generally 20ish minutes before closing, and the closer it gets to last call, the less like the doors to busier places are open to new patrons. if you leave at or after last call, even to smoke, you are out for the night.

if he was forcibly removed from the bar for being too drunk, that's an entirely different story. at that point the bar does have an absolute requirement to make sure you are not a danger to yourself or others ... but based on what his family has said publicly that seems unlikely to be the case.

that said, it's also possible the video shows something different and the family is keeping quiet about what the video actually shows on advice from LE in case of legal action against the bar.

at the moment, i am leaning toward tragic chain of events that was sadly avoidable on many different fronts....

come home soon, zach :(

Matt Marr calls Zach’s disappearance “100 percent a tragic accident” with no indication of foul play, Athos told the Press by telephone. And, while police divers continue to search, the floodlight will stay on until Zach is brought home.

Side note---In that picture I edited and posted up there, you can see where they have now laid down a large piece of steel plate so the search crews can walk back and forth safely across the space between the tracks. This is similar to the big steel plates they lay down on the streets when doing road construction, we've all driven over them. Just imagine that plate not being there, and you can easily see how stepping off into that void would be totally possible.

He'd probably been walking ( or running) down the center of the track up to that point, and the space between the rails had been solid ground. When he began walking across that suspended area however, that solid ground went bye-bye and a dark void opened up in its place. Splash.

The only way the bar is even remotely complicit is if they bounced him out without a coat. But then you can blame the cousins for taking so long to leave. You can blame the manufacturer of Zach's mobile for having a crappy battery, or you can blame the city of Boston for allowing human sized holes in a railway bridge, or you can blame the U.S. government for allowing the consumption of alcohol, or you can blame the human race for the global warming that lead to the extreme shift in temperature. You can keep going like this if you need to avoid leaving the responsibility for Zach's life at his own feet. As his father said, this appears to be a tragic accident, for which there can never be a satisfactory explanation.

Yup there's always someone to blame. That's something lawyers will always be grateful for..

I wish the people who are following incidents similar to Zach would keep their conversations in the subforum devoted to that purpose (http://www.websleuths.com/forums/fo...hs-of-Male-College-Students-The-River-Killers) and leave the individual threads to focus on the missing person instead of cluttering it with distractions, especially in a case like this where there is no indication whatsoever that it might be related.

Hi all. I just got an account here and will disable it soon. I was trying to find information about Zach because I don't watch tv and the online reports are kind of nebulous. I was hoping to get the most current news and somehow stumbled here.

While I understand this is a hobby for a lot of you and you mean no harm, please be cognizant of what you post as you continue your journeys as armchair detectives. I came looking for information about this young man because he is from my town...an incredibly close-knit community. Today people are tying yellow ribbons on all the trees and poles in town. Requests for news, sharing of prayers and updates on how the family is doing is a constant discussion on our town's private message board. To read some of the theories being carelessly tossed around is shocking. This is a close family who is well loved in the community. In addition, before coming to Harvard, I lived for years and years in Boston. To hear the theories involving Boston geography and crime by people who haven't even visited the city is preposterous.

Again, I understand no one means harm. And it's not my job to castigate people when American media invites us to all become detectives. But know these aren't just missing people. They are friends and family. They are members of a community. They are loved and missed. They are not a plot on SVU.

Thanks! I wasn't aware of that sub-forum.

There's so little left to discuss now, about what happened to Zach... It can be hard to just wait on news, I suppose. Its cold here today. It will be a long time, I bet, before I don't think about Zach when it gets cold out. I hope they find him soon.

That's kind of extreme. If Zach went out to have a smoke not knowing that the doors would be locked at say 1:30 and the bar has no sign stating this and Zach thought he could get back in before closing time (2:00), well, I don't see how that makes it his fault. Sorry, but the bar needs to let customers know that they will not be allowed reentry a half hour before closing. That's how I see it.

If nothing else, maybe in the future we will see a sign letting the customer know what the bars policy is regarding closing.

See that's the thing. "Zach went out". If I'm going out for a smoke that close to closing, I'm gonna have my coat, my friends, and be on the way to wherever I am staying. He was young, made a mistake, not blaming him. But I do see him as the Master of his own fate here.

As a smoker (I know, I know) I can tell you that I would run out for a quick smoke right before closing without my friends IF they were not smokers.

Some of my friends cannot stand the smell/smoke...so before we leave a bar/restaurant, those of us who do smoke will run out for a quickie so we don't puff in front of the non smokers.

I see your point, but he paid with his life. There should at least be a sign so people know... is there one? Do we know?

Probably no sign. Usually the staff tells you as you leave, or it's understood.
