The quote SS posted up thread said the Mccanns we're not suspect.
Where does it say that? I've read and re-read, twice, and saw nothing stating the McCanns were not suspects (or for that matter that they were suspects).
What did I miss?
The quote SS posted up thread said the Mccanns we're not suspect.
Didn't any of them use cell phones? I don't think I would go and check on adults who are a little late for a dinner date. Unless I was standing out there in the dark all by myself I would probably just shrug and enjoy the company that I've already got, figuring that the rest of them are adults and can take care of themselves, perhaps something came up with the kids and they will come when they have the time, no worries. Let's say they're having trouble putting their children to bed I'm just going to make it worse if I go knocking on their door and disturb the family, "aren't you coming yet? aren't you coming yet?"
The "new information" which has triggered all this kerfuffle is the British police finally getting hold of the cell phone pings.
The McCanns had wiped their call registers in May 07 so this was never able to be done by the PJ.

Again, I too sway between outcomes of whitewash versus gotcha!
If the parents 'dunnit', think what help they received from those in high positions; were those people complicit? If that were the case, how could the parents be found guilty without bringing the whole house crashing down, IYKWIM, for I fail to see how they would keep schtum if they knew they were going down; they would want to drag others down too, methinks.

I don't understand what the call registers have to do with the PJ examining or not examining ping data.
There is now a new government in the UK.
The good old boys of 2007 are gone.
Portions of the new government will like nothing more than proving the opposition is full of secret handshakes and perverting the course of justice.
McCanns friends in high places are hopefully, gone.
The towers that were pinging were owned by....
Probably the big Telco's, like Vodafone and a few others.
Those companies and their records are NOT KEPT IN PORTUGAL.
Therefore the PJ had zero ability to force the Telco's hand over the ping records.
The British police (tardy to the party) finally got the records from the Telco's, and are now tracing those pings.
The McCann had wiped their call registers on the night so the PJ had no way of finding out who had called who that night.
Now, they do.

So Marias mother was found in bulgaria confirmed by DNA. She gave her to a couple because she couldnt keep her or take her back to bulgaria.
So the Roma couple told the truth all along.
Where does that leave them now then?
Maria: Bulgarian Couple Are Roma Girl's Parents
DNA tests have confirmed that a Bulgarian couple are the biological parents of Maria, the girl found in a Greek Roma camp.
"DNA samples showed that Sasha Ruseva is the biological mother and Atanas Rusev is the biological father of the child called Maria," Bulgaria's interior ministry chief of staff Svetlozar Lazarov told reporters.
Ms Ruseva has said she gave birth to a baby girl four years ago in Greece while working as an olive picker.
She said she gave the child away because she was too poor to care for her. Ms Ruseva insisted she did not get paid for giving up the girl.
However, she had reportedly told one of her neighbours that she had sold the child for the equivalent of around £213,.
She had recognised Maria, when her discovery made headlines around the world.
According to reports Mrs Ruseva, who is married and lives in the central Bulgarian town of Nikolaevo, has between eight and 10 children.
Five of those children are blonde, and even closely resemble the girl found in central Greece last week.
Maria's case came to light when Greek police noticed the lack of resemblance between the blonde girl and the adults she was staying with in Athens.
Today's DNA confirmation comes after police arrested a childless couple in Greece on suspicion of buying a baby Roma girl and trying to register her as their own.
The couple were arrested in Athens after they allegedly paid a Roma woman 4,000 euros (£3,400) for the baby, a Greek police statement said.
Authorities are looking for the baby's birth parents.
The suspects, aged 53 and 48, were expected to be charged with child abduction. Under Greek law this includes cases where a minor is voluntarily given away by its parents outside the legal adoption process.
More follows...

Wouldn't the cellphone provider have the records? Why wasn't this done before ?
Do you think they would still want to protect their own and accuse an outsider? No offence intended. Just curious
I understand the towers but cellphone providers have records of the calls made. I assume there was no cooperation from them to the PJ or did PJ didn't bother getting the written copies of all calls made by the tapas group? The cell phone providers were not Portugese.
The PJ didn't even get Madeleine's medical records, they wouldn't have the foggiest hope of forcing a UK Telco to divulge phone pings.
Those towers are not "Portugese", they are merely renting space in Portugal.
The real question surely is "why were the McCann call registers wiped?"
The current government. Cameron appeared to be quite involved at the time. Unusual for a PM to get so involved, no?Who is "they"?
The Labour Government of the UK, now gone?
Or the current Government?
:dunno:
I do not think anyone from the UK Government willingly covered up Madeleine's disappearance.
I think that certain members of the 2007 Labour Government were as susceptible as the rest of us "these nice people cant possibly be involved" and as a courtesy, supported the McCann against the crooked and incompetent Portugese.
This is "conspiracy" this is an honest mistake by those in charge who have attempted to distance themselves ever since from what they inadvertently allowed to happen.
