Nor have the PJ Barnaby.
I doubt Nacho Abed felt it neccesary to mention Metodo. It's only bloggers that have predictably dragged their name into this.

Give me one good reason why PJ leaked this at this time? After all it gives McCanns an excuse not to go back to Portugal & they are using it to the full! & don't say it was to discredit them on their Brussels trip, the ramifications were too great to use it for that! PJ are not stupid by any means & they want them back in Portugal!

Barnaby :blowkiss: you have clearly made up your mind, I doubt there is anything I could say that will make any difference.
But here goes...I do think the PJ leaked it.
The McCanns had far more to lose from this "leak," and thats been very obvious this week!!!

I also think some of the PJ, not all, have a vested interest in keeping the focus on the McCanns and away from their conduct and the debacle they have made of Madeleine's case...Why?...Public opinion.

I don't include the new man in charge...Rebelo..I think,:waitasec: but I guess time will tell.
The leak happened while he was out of the country...He did seem to be running a more professional investigation, leaks have been a lot less since he took over.
It's also been reported that he was furious about this latest leak.
Again time will tell.

Do you believe everything negative in the various leaks about the McCanns and their friends? A recent one claimed some of them were demanding a private plane and expensive hotels to return to Portugal. Geeeez!!
To me this was ludicrous and underlined the nonesense of the other smears.

This is from an old article regarding the PJ using leaks to shape public opinion.....Nothings changed. IMO
http://www.telegraph.co.uk/news/main...-mostviewedbox

Such lax practice has shocked even the country's politicians. ''The leaks to the press of some details that are supposed to be classified have been used as an easy way to manipulate and shape public opinion," says Francisco Louçã, leader of a Portuguese opposition party.

Okay - here's a new article that gives a little hope.

http://www.telegraph.co.uk/news/main.jhtml?xml=/news/2008/04/16/nmaddy116.xml

Barnaby - I agree with you above. The Portugese had nothing to gain really by the leak. I don't think they really cared about the Brussels trip.

Trying to discredit the McCanns is not really necessary. The PLE are more concerned about gathering evidence at this point. Plus, if the PLE really wanted the McCanns back in Portugal, they must have realized that such a leak would work to the McCanns' advantage.

Then there is the fact that supposedly the McCanns acknowledged the truth of the leak so quickly. Why? Instead of just talking about how furious they are, etc. why did they acknowledge this? They have not acknowledged the truth of anything else......

Well I hope the article is right and the truth will be known soon.

Why would public opinion be important do you think? If the McCanns ever go to trial, there will be no jury to persuade. The Portuguese economy is booming. There has been no boycott by tourist to this country. People are not moving out and becoming citizens elsewhere. Its business as usual there. There are 1000's of unsolved missing children cases all round the world, the PJ are no better off or worse than the rest of the world if they can't solve this crime. Public oppinion means diddly squat in this case. They can not be blamed, or practically every Police force in every large city in the world would have to be blamed for every missing child. The general public know the McCanns made a habit of leaving 3 children under 4 alone at night...The McCanns did a fine job of shaping public oppinion of themselves. Sad they can't all get along and find that little girl.

Clarence Mitchell has yet to demand that Nacho Abad reveal his sources

I wonder why that is:rolleyes:

In fact cushty, he seems very quiet the past couple of days. Is it the same over there? Have you seen him on the TV since Monday?

  • #188
he was on a radio chat show last night - a very downmarket show on commercial radio - insisting he was right to blame the PJ, but apparently sounding very flustered

since then nothing - it certainly looks as if the main TV and radio stations are keeping their distance

the trip to Brussels got very little coverage too

I think there may be a feeling in the air - at last - that the McCanns and Mr Mitchell may not after all be the most accurate source of information on the disappearance of Madeleine

if nothing emerges before, it is going to be very interesting to see how the anniversary is covered in the UK media

With all that is happening, this quietness by the media is driving me crazy! No more talk of Tanner, very little coverage of the Brussels trip, no more talk about CM or the "leak," absolutely no talk that I can find about the great revelation by the Bad Nacho in Spain yesterday (must have been all hype), no talk of the meetings back in Portugal about the next steps or if the Britian interviews are continuing or have been wrapped or what!!! Making me crazzzzzzzzzzzzzzy!

I must be dense, I don't see where you explained their motive leak info...except to say for "public opinion" and to quote a newspaper. My question to you was WHY do YOU think they are so in need of changing public opinion?, (when it doesn't really matter what the public thinks). What will that do for the PJ?
To bias a jury? Nope, no jury.
To help the tourism industry? Nope, not suffering.
To keep residents from moving out? Nope, they aren't leaving.
To win elections? Nope the PJ aren't elected
To make money? No, that's the McCann's game.

What's in it for them???

Absolutely, couldn't agree more! I have got complete faith in the PJ and furthermore, I believe that they will solve this case once and for all.
There are some who seem to think that the PJ have failed in finding Maddie. I have always thought that they know much more than they are letting on.
After a almost a year, the Police are still asking questions and still feel the answers lie with the so called Tapas 7. Why would they want to waste time and money...they know something. All will be revealed soon and you say colomom , let's all be patient and certainly FEEL THE LOVE. ....to everyone here....:blowkiss:

From yesterdays Telegraph....

Portuguese police have insisted they will solve the mystery of Madeleine McCann's disappearance.

It doesn't sound to me that the Policia Judiciaria are struggling as some ppl would like to think, in fact they sound like they know something and are hot on the trail.:woohoo:

http://www.telegraph.co.uk/news/main.jhtml?xml=/news/2008/04/16/nmaddy116.xml

Faro police chief Guilhermino Encarnacao, who is in charge of coordinating the investigation into the missing girl, has brushed off criticism of his force.
He insisted the to insist the case was moving forward.

Madeleine McCann investigators have been locked in a war of words with the four-year-old's parents and their press spokesman Clarence Mitchell following the leaking of the couple's police statements.
Last week Mr Mitchell demanded an inquiry into how the McCanns' witness statements - given shortly after their daughter vanished - had been leaked and claimed it was another attempt to smear the couple.
In a rare public statement, the Policia Judiciaria (PJ) then criticised Mr Mitchell for his "baseless intervention".
Dr Encarnacao, speaking after a meeting between public prosecutors and police who travelled to Britain for fresh interviews with the McCanns' holiday friends, said: "Everything's going well.
"The inquiries carried out in the UK are progressing in the best way possible."
He said the police were not "vulnerable to pressure" from any party involved.
"The investigation will bring its results, whoever they hurt."
The pledge came as a clairvoyant claimed Madeleine McCann died in an accident.
