Madeleine McCann: German Prisoner Identified as Suspect, #41

I can't get over how bizarre and unconstitutional it is for this official speculation about a trial in respect of someone not even charged.

No one cares about the constitutionality because CB is a dirtbag - but imagine the state did this in respect of a politician or activists etc?

Oh maybe we will try you next year but yeah maybe we don't have evidence?

Insane IMO

no body case is going to be super difficult without forensics IMO.

True, although there have been murder convictions in Germany without a victim being located.

It is bizarre, and I bet some are silently regretting they ever said what they said.

Bizarre and unconstitutional and extraordinary, I agree.

And yet it continues. No let up. No willingness to back off. Full steam ahead.

Agreed - but its a heavy lift to have no forensics in an old historical case - so then you really need some digital evidence or something else physical? And so the challenges pile up ....

I said that from the outset - seemed very foolish to wade right out into the middle of this case if they weren't ready to charge.

One speculation I have is maybe something went wrong with evidence they thought they had.

As in, a crucial witness bailed and/or proved, over time, to be unreliable?
As in, the disovery that evidence they had had not come about via legal means and could therefore not be used in a trial?

Just speculating.

Nothing much new just an ex copper saying charges next year, maybe! after all CB lived near Luz and he allegedly had a camper van, that's got to be the clincher.

Specifically he said: "I would anticipate that we will see charges being brought in April or May, if not before."

Recent interview with Jim Gamble a passionate professional dealing with what must be horrendous work. Don’t think CB will be released earlier than the September date. However if re trial is dismissed by the February deadline it could well fit in that timeframe . We will see.

Did you listen to the podcast ?

Did you listen to the podcast ?

I listened to it and I agree with Richard, that while it's a decent enough chat and Gamble clearly cares about the case, he's really not offering anything new there in terms of insights or dicussion points, more just a (rather selective imo) summary of what happened all those years ago and where the MM case stands at the moment. Which we all know anyway from following the case and the trial.

In his favour, he remains open-minded, which is a good thing.

No charges any time soon, (if at all I'd say,) it's what alot of us have ventured anyway.

Prosecutor Hans Christian Wolters said: "There is currently no prospect of an indictment in the Maddie case.
"As things stand, the accused Christian B's imprisonment will end in early September."

Gamble got suckered.

Jim Gamble, former head of the UK Child Exploitation and Online Protection centre, said he had expected the prosecutor to charge Christian B soon.

"He's implied the whole way through that he has something more than the public are aware of," he said.

"He's made fairly definitive statements about whether Madeleine is alive or dead so you would expect their strategy to have been to charge him sooner rather than later.

"From what he's said today I wonder if we're witnessing the re-positioning of something to manage the disappointment that'll come."

Predictable. Indeed we predicted it.

no prosecutor with a chargeable murder case sits on it for years while bringing lesser charges.
Agreed, in the not too distant future there'll be an end with unable to continue with lack of evidence.imo.
