I just had a quick look and proxy servers are as old as the internet. I do wonder if in 2007, the same person with a Hotmail account would also be using a proxy server but it was almost certainly possible.I was thinking more of the recipient using a proxy rather than CB.
Do we know when these emails date from ?
Added - Wiki says commonly in use by 2008
The deleted emails were from 2007, around the time MM disappeared.
ETA, all the content of the emails would be stored on Microsoft’s servers so even if the IP address wasn’t available, it’s possible that things like the language used - slang - may be able to geographically locate the sender - like someone from the south of England using “Pukka” to mean good or Germans saying things like “I have known her since five years.” I am pretty sure they could locate someone’s area of origin by the way they write emails… if there is enough of them.
