tHE VIDEO OF THE PLANES FLIGHT HAS ME INTRIGUED. I AM GUESSING THIS IS THE ACTUAL VIDEO OF THE FLIGHT. JUST BEFORE IT DISAPPEARS IT ALL GOES RED. IS THIS SPECIAL EFFECTS OR IS THIS ACTUALLY HOW IT SHOWED UP ON THE SCREEN. ANYONE KNOW THE ANSWER TO THIS? ALSO I CAN'T SEE IT TURNING AROUND EITHER.

COULD SOMEONE ON BOARD HAVE TURNED OFF ALL THE ELECTRICITY. ALSO WHERE DOES THE PILOT GO TO THE TOILET? DOES HE HAVE TO LEAVE THE COCKIPIT?

I don't know what the red indicates, but it did it twice.

A multinational effort to track down a missing Malaysian airliner on the edge of the South China Sea is turning into a rare example of maritime collaboration between countries embroiled in territorial disputes in the region.

• No wreckage found in search for missing plane MH370 after contact lost en route from Kuala Lumpur to Beijing

• Interpol warns of ‘great concern’ that two passengers with stolen passports had tickets with consecutive numbers and onward flight to Amsterdam.

• Immigration staff questioned as part of investigation into possible security breach at Kuala Lumpur international airport

Found this but don't know if it's been discusses here yet or not (sorry - just woke up after being on this thread until about 4:45am......). I find it interesting considering five passengers who checked luggage did not board - I doubt it's the same five folks but the thought did cross my mind:

http://www.nytimes.com/2014/03/09/world/asia/malaysia-airlines-flight.html

The tickets to the holders of the stolen Austrian and Italian passports were sold by China Southern Airlines, which has a code share agreement with Malaysia Airlines, according to China Southern’s account on Sina Weibo, the Chinese microblog platform. China Southern said it sold five other tickets to the flight: to the Dutch passenger, the Ukrainians, and one Malaysian and one Chinese passenger.

Also:

Using a system that looks for flashes around the world, the Pentagon reviewed preliminary surveillance data from the area where the plane disappeared and saw no evidence of an explosion

Which video are you looking at? Thanks. :)

Yes I agree.....I wondered why it turned red as well before it disappeared......do you think maybe it is something that has meaning but they aren't telling us??? I am still very much leaning towards terrorism of some sort and think there is more known than we know...................however why has no one claimed it?

Can anyone explain why, when passenger mobile phones were called, they would connect and ring, rather than go straight to voicemail?

Firstly, we'd expect passenger phones to be turned off during flight (I know you can turn them back on in flight mode after take off and before landing begins). No reports of how many are ringing, so it could just be a couple of phones.

Secondly, why would mobile phones, which are ruined by water or fire from a crash, still ring at all?

If there is no evidence of explosion what about a device that could mess with the power of the plane? Causing it to go dark and then crash in the water? Is there such a thing?

I don't think it was a bomb as surely there would have been debris everywhere.....

I lived in Lockerbie for 3 months, 2 years after the plane went down there and while I was there, they were still finding parts of the plane.....it was everywhere....sorry it sounds so graphic...

I think it has flown straight into the ocean but how and why without any distress signal is the question...

Unless they were taken by aliens............it is a weird......

the poor passsengers on board....

for those who haven't seen it...

http://news.ninemsn.com.au/world/2014/03/09/15/44/malaysia-probes-terror-link-to-crash

it is the video in the middle of the article....live tracker of the flight......the plane turns from green to red then vanishes of the screen

This link has a longer version and it shows the plane turning red two other times. Not sure what it means - I haven't seen it on other flight trackers. I wish we knew which site they were getting that from:

Live flight tracker Flight Radar 24 published the first images of the flight route of MH370. AstroAwani speaks to Flight Radar 24 on the modalites of their reports and what it means when a flight disappears from radar.

I'm just not sure that the red means anything? It had done that a couple of other times on that same video. Wish we knew which tracker they were using and if that's a normal part of their software.

Here's another link (not the same flight tracker quoted above, I'm assuming, since it doesn't turn red) (ETA - I just realized it's the same video source from the link you quote...):
