The capability of the locator the Chinese were using is what gives me pause. One would think the FDR is in water much deeper than 600 ft. If the US Navy's pinger locator had picked up a signal, I would be much more confident it actually is the FDR.

As per the requirements set out by the ICAO in Annex 13 of the International Standards and Recommended Practices, Malaysia will continue to lead the investigation into MH370.
As per the ICAO standards, Malaysia will also appoint an independent Investigator In Charge to lead an investigation team. The investigation team will include three groups:
· an airworthiness group, to look at issues such as maintenance records, structures and systems;
· an operations group, to examine things such as flight recorders, operations and meteorology;
· and a medical and human factors group, to investigate issues such as psychology, pathology and survival factors.
The investigation team will also include accredited countries.
Malaysia has already asked Australia to be accredited to the investigation team, and they have accepted.
We will also include China, the United States, the United Kingdom and France as accredited representatives to the investigation team, along with other countries that we feel are in a position to help.
In addition to the new investigation team mentioned above, the Government - in order to streamline and strengthen our on-going efforts - has established three ministerial committees.
Firstly, Next of Kin Committee. Hamzah Zainuddin, the Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs, leads this committee.
This committee will oversee all aspects regarding the Next of Kin of those on board MH370, providing families with information on the search operation, and offering support after the search operation has been concluded.
The committee will co-ordinate with relevant foreign governments, and will complement the work already being done for the families by Malaysian Airlines.
The second committee oversees technicalities, specifically, the formation and the appointment of the investigation team. Abdul Aziz Kaprawi, the Deputy Minister of Transport, leads this committee.
The third committee takes over issues related to the deployment of assets for the search operation. Abdul Rahim Bakri, the Deputy Minister of Defence, leads this committee.
This committee will work with foreign counterparts involved in the search operation, and liaise closely with the Australian Joint Agency Co-ordination Centre.

All Right, I am tired of all this "secrecy" crap from both China + Malaysia. You are either with the other cooperating nations or you are against them and they should get the heck out of that area.
It is total BS that China is not reporting directly to the command center. They need to get the heck out of the area then. It is a bunch of crap and Austrailia and everyone else should not put up with it.
I have no problem if Austrailia totally ignores them and doesnt send any resources based on their Telephone game they are playing. Just heard on CNN that Austrailia cannot even get ahold of whatever Chinese ship supposedly made this claim. It is a bunch of crap IMO.
There is absolutely no reason that any form of update from any ship or plane in the area cannot get immediate responses from the command center. If a nation like China or Malaysia is not going to play by the same rules as all the other nations and cooperate then they should get the heck out of the area.
Rant Over.
Anish Patel, president of US black box beacon manufacturer Dukane Seacom, said he was "highly sceptical" about the report.
"Let's get some additional assets in the water so we can corroborate, before we get everyone's hopes up," he told CNN.

CNN now reporting that FBI found something CURIOUS on pilot's flight simulator.
Not sure if they have reported anything more since I went outside to walk the dog.
Mr Patel said that in an early morning interview
When I heard him speak again late this afternoon he sounded more optimistic as was Aviation expert Mary Schiavo.

Very discouraging. You are correct (600ft). What are the chances of a rogue SAR team picking a spot, for reasons only they know, where no one else is looking, plunking in a detector with a 600ft range and picking up a signal?
:banghead: What is going on? It's almost 30 days and no one can provide accurate information. Are they just trying to keep their ratings up, or what?
There are reports the FS had a Diego Garcia flightpath programmed in, I believe.
