Right folks, I am off to bed in a few minutes. Would be very grateful if you could refrain from racking up another 7 threads before I wake up tomorrow!! #strugglingtocatchup

Only 22 pages to catch up on this morning!!

What has happened with the Tomnod photo showing what looked like plane seats?

Anything else to report?!

giving immediate financial assistance to families, haven't looked at financial compensation yet until they know what happened

That's just good public relations and CYA

it's hard to summarise what was said in the press conference. It was hard to understand as some was in Malaysian, some difficult accents and ambient noise and people talking over each other. Don't think much new was said at all

They have a former pilot on Sky who said that the plane could still have been transmitting on the ground if the back-up power was running (e.g. they were running the lights/heating). I didn't hear it asked at the conference but they cut back to him afterwards and he said it was interesting they had confirmed that.

One thing to note with flight training to take over the plane - the 9/11 hijacking pilots learnt to fly. It was observed that they weren't interested much in how to land or take off, and if they had done it would be on a runway. If someone has stolen this plane to land, they have to have experience in handling a big jet on a potentially crappy landing strip...

What is the differance between an "act of piracy" and a terrorist act???

The difference is Johnny Depp gets the lead role instead of Nicolas Cage.

I saw this on CNN a while ago and was waiting for someone to post it - is the implication that they could not have been collaborating, then?

Normally piracy is for financial gain.. but I suspect the two are becoming increasingly linked - piracy can raise funds and also be an act of terror against a country or organisation (e.g. oil companies). Just a matter of perception...

On thing that seems to stick out is that the person piloting this plane is very experienced and most probably has military training with his ability to use different corridors and disappear. I therefore think that he would also be expert at landing under very difficult circumstances as wolf dreamer has said. Wonder if they are checking out all their pilots with military flying experience to see if they are accounted for. As was said previously, a pilot showing his credentials can hitch a ride and no one would be the wiser. That is if they are so lax that he is not added to the passenger list.
Presuming he would be a non paying customer and with corruption rife why add him to the list? jmoo

I think it is just a piece of evidence in this puzzle and no conclusions can be drawn from this info. We don't know if they flew together previously or regularly, but I would presume they knew each other. Just because they didn't ask to fly together this time doesn't mean that they didn't cook up a plan at some prior time to say, hey next time we happen to be rostered together, let's hijack the plane. But who knows!

I wonder what the ability of a person in the cockpit has to lock the door to keep others out. Is it a pin code? So if one pilot locked out the other while he was on a break or say asked to go and check something, then how would he keep him out?

So far I've only heard of one passenger that had some military training and he is not under suspicion. But you're right, perhaps pilots can hitch a ride without checking in? Far as I know, not much information has been given regarding passenger's previous military/pilot training. I wish they'd release more! (Tho we can't sleuth passengers anyway unless something comes up in MSM).

Malaysian Airlines doors have a pin code.

Malaysian Airlines doors have a pin code.

Thanks Derryn. And who in the crew knows that code. Pilots obviously and would have to be other crew as well. Is each plane a different code? Just one more question, is there a jump seat in that plane in the cockpit?

Bed time in Australia and Malaysia ....so don't expect anything of importance until tomorrow. Hoping there will be something new. Hope the passengers are alive somewhere on this planet. My thoughts are with the poor families who are left in limbo.

Malaysian authorities say it's possible the sat transmissions from #MH370 were coming when the aircraft was on the ground.

Malaysian authorities say they're still waiting on some background checks to see which passengers on #MH370 might have had aviation skills.
