They say to disable ACARS, you'd have to leave the cockpit, travel down a hatch in the cabin, and cut a wire. Now, on CNN, they're saying this would require tools that wouldn't make it through security.

Well, that might not make it through security in the US (although they just might still), but there were two people with stolen passports on the plane. So, forgive me for not thinking the airline security in Malaysia would definitely not allow something like that on a plane.

1. There is a pilot flying and a pilot not flying. The PNF is the one talking on the radios. Not a big deal that the F/O made the last transmission

2. Controllers and pilots use non standard phraseology all the time. They share Superbowl scores and say Merry Christmas.

3. It may be normal for pilots to have something like microsoft flight sim, but it's not normal to build your own simulator for your home. That's pretty rare. I know many pilots and none have a simulator in their home.

When each of you saw him being frisked at airport in video? What was your first impression? then captions declare hysterically CCTV of pilot in airport.

Total lie - that screen shot was grabbed off You Tube in a video the family and friends made in his honor.

THis is not airport security ..... its a family member taking a video (years ago!) of daddy pilot pretending to be frisked at his job.....

Aren't we all so over this

Expert: 3 pieces of evidence indicate Flight #MH370 was taken over by someone who knew how the plane worked http://ow.ly/uFl1P

Interesting. If they don't get permission, it will be even more interesting.

I doubt the Taliban gives them permission regardless of whether or not there is a plane there.

Would it be the Taliban giving permission, or the government of those areas?

ETA: Ah, it would be the Taliban. Ugh. Nevermind this post

I don't know if this has been discussed or not, but is this the Captain's regular flight route? If so, how many times per week and is it always this same time? tia

Would want to know why two individuals with stolen passports could not purchase their own tickets? Why did Mr. Ali have to buy them, and then return to Iran?

Maybe he is part of an underground railroad group that assists people to get out of Iran.

Authorities reportedly looking at flight engineer, plane altitude in missing Malaysia jetliner investigation

A senior police official told Reuters Monday that authorities are investigating Mohd Khairul Amri Selamat, a 29-year-old Malaysian flight engineer. Selamat reportedly said on social media that he had worked for a private jet charter company.

The newspaper said officials are reviewing the plane’s flight profile to determine whether it used “terrain masking” techniques during the time it disappeared from radar coverage.

IDK about the Taliban being involved. To me, JMO, wouldn't their actions be more immediate with a plane they hijacked? I mean, I would think they'd hijack a plane to do something more immediate than hide it.

From same link as above, wanted to add.

Authorities are also examining the possibility that the plane flew at an altitude of less than 5,000 feet to avoid radar coverage after it turned back from its planned route to Beijing, the Malaysian newspaper New Straits Times reports.

http://www.foxnews.com/world/2014/03/17/pilots-become-focus-malaysia-airlines-investigation/

“The person who had control over the aircraft has a solid knowledge of avionics and navigation…it passed low over Kelantan, that was true.”

Kelantan is a province in central Malaysia.

My guess is that if the plane was hijacked the hijackers were either pilots OR knew how lax the Malaysian military and traffic control folks were. In the US or Germany or Israel one would expect prompt action but a whole lot of other countries are pretty darn disorganized (and I could see it happening in the U.S. too)

ITA, I'm thinking that whoever is behind this knew where the holes in the system were. From lax checks of passports, to where to fly and go undetected. The only thing they couldn't access or control was the Rolls Royce pings. Otherwise that would have been disabled as well. Or maybe they knew that those pings really wouldn't betray them. And they haven't, we still don't know where that plane is.

It's definitely not typical, but I imagine that they cost a lot of money, and I imagine some pilots are more into that stuff than others. A lot of people like cars and planes, but not all of them like to restore old cars or build their own planes. I had a great uncle who didn't have much money but loved planes and built his own from a kit and was super into that process. My dad likes cars and my mom would never allow a racing simulator, but he has very wealthy friends who have them. It just seems like he wouldn't exactly be advertising his building of this device if it was part of some sinister plan - not to say he wasn't involved, but if may have been something he was into without sinister motives.
