Well I definitely know more about planes than I ever intended :floorlaugh:

Now if only we knew where the people are -- that would be awesome.

Just thinking of another scenario. I'm sure pilots chit chat to pass the time. The captain most likely shared his day at the trial and his frustrations with the outcome. If the conversation took place how did the co-pilot react to that? Did either have a temper? From watching the landing Derryn posted, the two pilots definitely have to be on the same page working as a team. Their little fingers were all over the place, reaching on the other side, pushing and turning who knows what? I think they need booster seats because it looked like they could hardly see out the front of the plane!!

I know more than I ever wanted to know!

Like my car...I want to turn the key, know the radio and heat & a/c works....that's all i want to know!

You are correct about that. I think any American in any country should only fly our airlines, because you cant trust how lax they all are.
I also think that if our Airline does not go there we dont need to go there either.
I still have hope since nothing has been found that they are alive somewhere I HOPE.

Are you saying that Americans should only fly on the airlines that operate out of the US?

Re: the part I bolded-why do you say that?

What time was the transponder turned off (today's version)?

People who are obsessed about anything are obsessed about more than one thing for sure.
Some are well trained not to let on anything more.
Oh come on, let's not twist it that way! Lots of people (men especially) are hobbyists, esp. with transportation vehicles. My uncle rides around on one of those miniature railroads any chance he gets, and he's pretty harmless! And the model plane hobby seems pretty darn harmless too.

To fly stealth under radar?

This Boeing 777 is a well built plane from what I have read and has broke records.

Which reminds me, where is Boeing? :waitasec:

Last I knew they were in CAL, I had an old friend who worked for them.
but what is the difference?
Its the security we should question.
the plane is a good plane.

Nevermind.

It would seem if flight plan were changed in the air, ATC on ground would have gotten a report especially since the change was made into a communication system and not by controls.

ETA if this is not the case, it needs to change!

They ground crew could have received the information the flight plan changed, but, also could of been accomplices. :twocents:

Well, she admitted she wasn't trying to be fair. People always feel there's something unique about the distinction they are drawing. That's why we have to keep the laws fair regardless of personal feelings - everyone has their own fears of certain groups, and if those fears were used as the basis for restrictions, very few people would be roaming freely. If she says she's trying to change the laws to ban pilots based on religion, I'll get worried.

Is that for me?? I think you quoted my post by mistake.

Thinking HAM radio folks aren't obsessed = I know someone who is a techie for a radio station and comes home to his compete soundboard set up, has a ham station and set in his car too.......harmless fellow

Most of us are proud of our country. That's why we live where we do. <mod snip>

That is not entirely correct...

The aircraft can be steered from what is called the "Mode Select Panel" - which is part of the autopilot.

(Attached Pic)

By simply turning these knobs to the desired setting the aircraft will do what you want it to do, automatically.

A: IAS (Indicated Air Speed) - Setting this to a set speed will make the aircraft maintain this air speed. Nose the plane down, or climb the plane up, the aircraft will automatically set the throttle in order to maintain this speed.

B: Heading (direction) - Think of this like a 360 degree compass... well.. that's exactly what it is. Set the heading (compass heading) and the plane will turn to fly in that direction and hold that heading. So, all it would have taken to turn the plane west here would be a simple turn of the knob a few to the left and the plane would have tracked west. As you will notice in the video links below, the pilots "Steering wheel" does not even move or turn during this... its a seperate system. In fact, this is how large commercial airline type aircraft are mostly flown. *Shock Horror!* "You mean they don't use the Yoke to steer the plane?" - Well, they do, but far less than you would think... far far less!

The whole thing is pretty much done by twisting these three knobs!

C: ALT (Altitude) - Controls the planes height setting... self explanatory really...

Yes, it's insane how it's switches and knobs and auto everything.

Thanks again for your resourceful info! :seeya:

In the past few days I've looked up aircraft crashes, nuclear weaponry, deaths caused by panic, and when not doing so have been writing a long story about a pedophile and playing sword and sorcery games. I hope if I vanish this will not be taken badly.

edit: I'd suspect Chinese extremists before two Iranians, simply because so many people on the flight were Chinese.

BBM ~ I think KL is the origin of this potential hijack (perhaps due to lack of security), not passenger's country of origin or political views.

And, besides, if China was the hijackers, I don't think Israel would have their land on attack mode, JMO.

Boxcutters (and other sharp objects) were allowed on plane's pre 9/11. You can't even bring nail clippers on board anymore!

Or tweezers! I got mine confiscated once! :tantrum: My good ones too!

Discuss the case and not each other. And the generalizing about different cultures, races, religions, etc. Ends here.

The point is that with probably the exception of Israel, and now the US, many countries have lax ( I mean lax, not LAX) airport security. My father who has worked in the industries of metal detectors and radar, told me many years ago not to fly to Greece for that reason!

BBM ~ I would add:

Canada, Australia, England, (EU countries), Japan, Russia to this list also. :seeya:
