BBM

500 m is 500 metres, not miles.

Hope they brought binoculars, because it was overly optimistic to expect that the OSCE-observers would easily be allowed on site.

So much for their protestations about supporting a full and impartial investigation. What a huge surprise.

Australian Woman Loses Family in 2 Different Malaysia Air Disasters

SYDNEY — In an almost incomprehensible twist of fate, an Australian woman who lost her brother in the disappearance of Malaysia Airlines Flight 370 learned on Friday that her stepdaughter was on the plane shot down over Ukraine. Kaylene Mann's brother Rod Burrows and sister-in-law Mary Burrows were on board Flight 370 when it vanished in March. On Friday, Mann found out that her stepdaughter, Maree Rizk, was killed along with 297 others on Malaysia Airlines Flight 17, which U.S. intelligence authorities believe was shot down by a surface-to-air missile.

“It’s just brought everyone, everything back,” said Greg Burrows, Mann’s brother. “It’s just ... ripped our guts again.” ...

The Netherlands have lost at least 173 people in this crash and their PM is totally invisible.
He spoke with Putin by phone, and he says the same as Putin: investigation is going to be complicated and should be objective blablabla.
Shame on you, Mark Rutte. You are a disgrace to your country and unfit to lead!

173 people from Holland lost, all civilized nations are demanding JUSTICE but has anyone heard anything from Mark Rutte???

The Dutch Government has a long history of letting commercial interests and international trade prevail over literally everything.

Ouch. I'm not sure where you're getting this info. Holland is an ally of ours that has been heavily involved in the Iraq and Afghanistan wars and is involved in various peace-keeping missions. Holland is a peaceful nation but not a cowardly one. The PM stated more than you wrote and at the time he was quoted, it was soon after the tragedy occurred. What was he supposed to do? Start screaming for war before he even knew what had happened?

Regardless, if you are demanding that the Dutch react angrily or violently or hate their PM if he doesn't call for war or make inflammatory statements, you will be disappointed. The Dutch are steadfast regarding justice but are not a vengeful people:

"Asked how they felt the Dutch government should react to the tragedy, Van den Akker said: "What happened was awful, and we are all thinking of the victims. But we are not going to call for the government to go and catch the perpetrators or go to war. We are not America."" http://www.theguardian.com/world/2014/jul/18/dutch-travellers-react-calmly-loss-flight-mh17

BBC producer at the scene says the pro-russian rebel soldiers are in charge at the scene, are suspicious, giving their version of events - and one of them just walked up to him and blamed the bombing on the Queen of England.

Rebel's commender fires a warning shot when 2 #OSCE members leaved the road to inspect #MH17 part in a field. Mission left back to #donetsk

And off they go. No inspection done by OSCE today.

Just thinking, With MH370 technically missing all and any malaysian plane could be and probably will be suspect to some. idk jmo

When I first heard about it yesterday my initial thought on hearing a malaysian 777 had been shot down was MH370. Obviously not the case, but I did think someone had panicked thinking it was the missing plane on a terrorist mission.

I was in the supermarket when SCHMAE messaged me on fb to tell me about the crash, so I didn't have much info other than a malaysian 777 had crashed and then next it had been shot down.

I can't stop thinking about it, I'm still reeling from the reality of what happened. I was a teenager when Lockerbie happened but I still remember that night very clearly, the 'news flash' on TV, I was home alone and it scared me so bad. I can think of nothing more horrific that being blown out of the sky and the implications of that on the ground, those poor souls. RIP :rose:

Obama is stating that they will cooperate with a full investigation from the fbi, our ffa investigators, etc. But from what I'm hearing I dont see this happening. I've already heard on CNN that the black box is missing. Now we have russian tapes where seperatists are talking of the dead like they are nothing...it's so sad. I'm really saddened over this crash...if he did alter his course due to fear...shame on Putin again. Shame on Him. He should be kicked out of office and Russia.

Just getting in; I haven't been able to read here yet but just wanted to say that when I heard the news, one of the first things I thought about was the dedicated members and specialists here at WS that have been working the initial missing Mal Air case tirelessly from the beginning up to the present... (I check in there once in a while to say, "You guys are still here?" CarIII(?) gets a kick out of this, lol).

I don't have much to add at this time except my sincere condolences to the victim's families.

My thoughts are the same thoughts I posted back in the beginning of MAL 1, that there would be infinite international and political elements / involvement / ramifications.

As usual, my same post to the members who have been on all of this wholeheartedly from the beginning, You Rock.
