'The PGPD is aware that the Maryland State Police has opened a death investigation after a female’s body was located in a grassy area off Route 50 in Anne Arundel County on Sunday. The preliminary investigation has revealed a possible connection to the PGPD’s missing persons investigation. At this time, the identity of the deceased woman has not been confirmed. Investigators are also awaiting autopsy result from the Office of the Chief Medical Examiner to determine cause and manner of death. The PGPD is working jointly with Maryland State Police on this investigation.'

Not sure how long identification usually takes.
After a week in warmer temperatures, visual identification is not impossible after naturally occurring postmortem changes to the body. But from a legal perspective, they're going to want to get positive ID through dental records most likely before something is announced (though the family may well have made tentative ID). Depending on whether the dentist requires a subpeona, it can take a week or more.

Damn.

Just signed in and saw the news, doesn't look good - but nothing has been confirmed. My thoughts are with DaCara's family as they wait :(

The remains could have been found anywhere along the stretch of US 50. But at the furthest point, it's 30 miles from her car. What could have happened to DaCara?

MOO: this reads to me like Maryland State Police and all LE involved are taking the path of maximum prudence and discretion while identifying the body, which makes sense relative to a 45-minute ride between the parked car and this discovery. There is a whole narrative of events in between that they need to figure out, and I wish them every advantage in doing that;

With a username like mine … which is based in part on my real name … a case involving a woman named DaCara is pulling at my heart, especially hard.

I want to note that I think her parents have really stood out here for their commitment and rigor in trying to figure out what has happened. I think about my own mom, and if I had vanished after parking backwards illegally in a neighborhood that wasn’t the safest - I know she would be sitting vigil at that location for days, weeks, however long it took, just as these parents have done. I respect and admire that deeply.

I wish we knew exactly where the body was found. Ive been looking at state police data but they dont collect that stuff in real time. I also tried spotcrime.com My next stop is IRV anybody have any other ideas how to find out?

JMO but i’m scandalized and unsurprised by the treatment the father got from the police when he called about her car.

I get irritated that many people act like 18 is some magic number where you’re suddenly capable of caring for yourself and making all your own choices. Yet the brain isn’t fully formed yet!! We won’t let you smoke or drink and yet… sigh

idk how warm it would need to be to make a difference but it’s been unseasonably cool here in the DMV this last week or so. like high 70s? Geeze more like all summer actually but particularly bearable this week

That link was to a private post, FB wouldn't allow me to view. Was it her FB acount? Or a missing picture posted elsewhere? Thanks!
It was a post by the Prince George’s County, Office of the Sheriff’s account, but it’s gone now.

It was in the mid 80’s in the Baltimore area and I’m guessing high humidity as well. Optimal decomp rates occur between roughly 70°F (21°C) and 100°F (38°C) so a temp in the mid 80’s would be a factor. I'm not going to go into further detail as to the process out of respect for the family, but you get the idea.

Hi all- new here and local. It’s my understanding that there are/were two more women that have been reported as missing (very recently).

It seems to me that the Dad might recall what clothes his daughter was wearing when she left the home. Also, they know the girl's approximate weight and height. Has this information been relayed to police? Just thought that it might help to rule in our out if the body found is DaCara. I can't imagine the agony of waiting to hear results, otherwise.

JMO.

DaCara has tattoos on her left arm ad right side, so that should help with the ID. She was wearing a dark jacket and denim jeans.

here is an article mentioning DaCara and another missing maryland woman, Erica Perry. It’s not clear they’re connected

Gosh, thanks. I don't know how I hadn't heard about Erica--I literally just walked past that apartment building yesterday. :/

i searched her name in google news and that’s literally the only article I found mentioning her. The fox 5 reporter on instagram linked within seems to be the only one covering it?

I found an instagram post from Hyattsville md PD, as well

There's lots of face/spam type news sites reporting on both missing women, implying they are linked, and some claiming identification of the body, Most are click bait. I've not seen anything else other than the original PD report on Erica with the report her apartment was "in shambles". Since DeCara went missing in public, at age 19, and Erica seemingly went missing from home, possibly with her vehicle, age 43, I don't see anything tying these two women together outside of race and gender, IMO.

Keeping her family in my thoughts. This waiting has to be agony.

Yep. Erica Perry. Hyattsville too. It’s really weird.
