Why wasn't he given immediate medical assistance when he stated to LE that he was having difficulty breathing?

Please don't tell me that it was because arrestees say that all the time (what's referred to as malingering) - we've all seen the videos of FG being loaded into the police van. He appeared to be in medical distress - that alone (the appearance of medical distress) should have been enough for the officers to have requested a medic immediately, rather than later.

That is a valid concern. He was clearly heard asking for an inhaler. Another question I have is whether he was actively trying to harm himself in the van, or was he trying to attract attention because he was in medical distress? Though it is very likely the other prisoner wouldn't be able to tell the difference.

Also prisonors have been known to commit passive resistance when they are arrested in front of a crowd. And it is not unknown for arrestees to feign injuries when arrested in front of a crowd.

I'm not saying Mr Gray did those things. But those behaviors are known.

Yes, google may help find all kinds of unlikely causes for this man's sudden demise from being healthy enough to run from police to being so damaged he was dragged into a wagon, screaming in pain. And then he lapsed into a coma from which he never emerged. He is dead.

I am not buying that lead poisoning cause this horrific death. IMO, it is so very obvious Mr. G was beat to his eventual death.

Which officer did it? And while they were taking the time to do that why didn't one of the many witnesses with cell phone cameras record it?

Personally I prefer forensic info over witness statements no matter how credible the witness.

I also prefer forensic evidence.

I have to wonder: will we get that in this case, or will we get a cover-up?

Who said lead poisoning caused his death?

Hysterical hyperbole.

With this many eyes on Baltimore IMO the coroners report will be honest. For the rest, who knows?

Don't forget the family also had an autopsy done. And they have not publicized their report either.

If the officer who placed FG in the police van was aware that he was already injured prior to arrest, then that officer is responsible for neglecting to seek medical care for FG, IMO.

Could be. Gonna have to wait to hear all the info.

And if he was injured when he was put in the van, the driver is also equally responsible for not seeking medical care when he stopped to have him put in the leg irons. He would have seen that he needed medical care at that point and he still did not request it.

**I just read what you wrote again and I think I am saying the same thing as you**

Who said lead poisoning caused his death?

It's been implied in this thread that his spinal fractures were the result of lead poisoning.

People have been saying it is impossible to cause these injuries to yourself due to bones being hard or whatever. And I gave a video that shows that is incorrect and pops is saying that lead poisoning can make bones more fragile.

I agree.

I think there were several opportunities for at least one of the police officers to notice that FG was in dire need of medical assistance.

If even one of them had done the right thing & had gotten FG the immediate medical care that he needed, we'd be looking at a different outcome in this case, IMO. IDK if it would have been enough to save FG's life, but it may have been enough to prevent everything that's occurred in these past few days.

According to the 'friend' of the officer in the interview, the officer claims that FG was injured prior to his arrest.

If this is true, why was medical assistance denied? If medical assistance was denied, then who's responsible? Certainly not FG - he was under arrest.

According to videos we've seen, FG was asking for help - breathing issues.

Why didn't he receive immediate medical assistance?

I think he may have had osteopenia/osteoporosis from the lead poisoning. jmo

IMO that could very well have been a factor in the spinal fracture and have led to the spinal cord injury. But it still doesn't explain the trachea if it was indeed injured.

They probably figured he was lying because they hear that all the time (I just saw it on a video of someone being arrested last week) or because they figured how could someone who couldn't breath be so active.

They are not paramedics.

Bydon cited the case of a 57-year-old Alabama man who was paralyzed in February after being handcuffed and thrown to the ground, suffering a severe neck injury. Handcuffs prevent a person from being able to brace themselves in a fall, placing pressure on the head and neck when they land, he said.

Bydon said spinal cord injuries also could be self-inflicted, including in cases in which the person is under the influence of alcohol or drugs.

BPD Commissioner Anthony Batts on 4/23 told us second prisoner in police van said Freddie Gray was "mostly quiet".

We have reported that when van stopped to pick up 2nd prisoner, sources say, Gray was unresponsive. No evidence banging head against van

Very interesting.

So WaPo talked to the prisoner and Batts is giving this info. I bet Batts is HOT about the story in WaPo.
