Ahandwritten account by the sheriff’s deputy who arrested Mel Gibson triggered a lengthy debate among department officials Friday over how much should be released about the actor’s allegedly profane and anti-Jewish comments, sources close to the investigation said Monday.
The officials ultimately decided to place a portion of Deputy James Mee’s report under lock and key in an effort to prevent immediate public disclosure, the sources said. They declined to be identified because of the sensitivity of the case.

“They were like chickens running around with their heads cut off,” said one source, who was at the station and witnessed the discussion in the hours after Gibson was arrested on suspicion of drunk driving

LOL, well i never thought it that way, but i guess you could say they are "exceptional drunks"....

i've been known to get intoxicated every now & then, myself...i don't drink & drive...use too, but haven't in several years, after having a car wreck..i'm very thankful i never hurt or killed anyone on the roads..

I'm glad you were able to laugh c_e. I didn't mean that to come off as derogatory-sounding as it may have. Truly didn't mean any offense to you, your friends or acquaintences. I meant that they must be exceptional people when drunk, because I think they are truly the exception to the rule. I'll add, good for them!

They never drink and drive. I know that because if they cannot get a cab or a ride from a friend, guess who they call at 3 am?

Bless them! Best that they call you for a ride, then to bail them out on DUI charges. Thankfully the woman that picked them up wasn't some psycho, Aileen Wuornos type.

I noticed that earlier but thought it might be totally separate from any of the DUI related charges.

IF Officer Mee didn't site Mel for the speeding, if in fact he truly was, he did him a huge favor.

Robert Shapiro was just on Greta and said that the laws in CA changed about a year ago to state that IF the DUI charges were combined with speeding in excess of 20+ mph over the limit (or reckless driving), there is a mandatory six months in jail.

Sooo ... IF, in fact, he wasn't charged with speeding then there was no probable cause to have pulled him over. And therefore it would seem a good lawyer may just be able to get him off on the DUI charges.

Yes that is what I have been reading. One problem is mel admitted that he was drunk. Every defense lawyer in town went nuts with that i am sure.

I'm not sure it would have anything to do with any admission of drunkedness. Just wondering if the technicality in itself may be enough to have the charges dropped.

Oh I 'm sorry i see what you;re saying. But just because they didn't sight him for speeding, they can still say he was speeding. They could also just say he was weaving.

If the fact is that he was not charged, then I'm not so sure that would fly in a court of law.

But then, IF Mel doesn't retain an attorney to fight the charges, then it's a moot point.

But, I would still like to know ...

Oh they have the option of charging them or not. They can just say they were going to warn him, but not ticketing him wouldn't change the fact that he was speeding.
