It doesn't sound as if she is very experienced in Criminal Defense when her client has the very serious charges that have been laid against him.

A "what if" scenario -

What if EC was indeed being bullied? What if his parents encouraged him to defend himself, fight back? The timeline of events was so tight - only five days from when JRC bought the gun to the day JLC took EC to the gun range to the day of the shooting.

Newly "empowered", what if EC let it be known at school he had a brand new gun, either through whispers or perhaps even showing it off to a select few? He did, indeed, post on social media about his "new beauty". Word gets around like lightning these days. Maybe that was the catalyst for the rumors of trouble coming, a shooting coming - rumors so strong that some students stayed home that day.

Considering what we already know about his parents, I believe this theory is not beyond the realm of possibility.

Pure speculation, nothing more. JMO

I can envision this easily, FWIW.

I agree. It's a major national case, and complicated given the parents' entanglement. I wonder how she came to be his defense attorney.

The parents knew about the weapon, the school knew about his intent, the police knew about a planned shooting. Apparently these three parties did not put it together in time.
She asked him if he told the schooo
They did, but mom ignored their efforts to reach out about that.
in the interview McDonald did w Wolf Blitzer she said that JC asked EC “did you tell them about the gun?” after he was caught searching ammo.

Probably a court paid attorney. Indigent defense.

Yes. Here's a link to Newsweek.

Ex-neighbor says she warned Children's Protective Services about Oxford shooter's parents

Furthermore, one of the articles about his family life said that the brother only lived there for a few months, didn't get along with the stepmother and went back to his own mother in Florida. I don't have that link available right now. But if that's the case, then Eli may not have witnessed this. Nor would Eli's mother, the father's ex-girlfriend. But the neighbor claims to have witnessed this, and Ethan used to come knock on her door when they left him alone.
Judging by the stepmom’s glaring mugshot....I would not wanna be around her either!

Jennifer Crumbley is Ethan’s biological mother.

But I agree with you. She shouldn’t have access to guns.. or children.

I think you meant Ethans mother but I agree they look rough. That’s why I asked about substance abuse. The father especially looks like he could be using.

more about the Detroit place and how the couple knew Sikora.

An attorney for the artist said Sunday his client was only trying to provide a place for friends who said they had received death threats.

“They knew he had a studio in Detroit and they wanted to put some distance between themselves and Oxford because of death threats,” Dass said. “They called and asked if they could stay with him for a while, and he met them at his studio Friday afternoon. When he left to go home about 5 p.m. he told them to lock up with they left … He had no idea they planned to spend the night there."

“He hadn’t heard anything about charges or press conferences or really anything about what was going on until the next day,” Dass said. “When he did hear about it Saturday morning, he immediately called Detroit police, the Oakland County Sheriff’s Office and my law firm.”

“He is offering his full cooperation,” Dass said. “There is no way he was obstructing justice or harboring fugitives. He was just temporarily giving them a place where they felt safe and could figure out what they were going to do next.”

Dass said Sikora and the Crumbleys had met on a ski trip several years ago and Jennifer Crumbley had provided marketing services for his art work.

Artist who sheltered Crumbleys 'hadn't heard anything about charges,' attorney says

"Death threats" so they said ...smh
.."where they felt safe and could figure out what they were going to do next.” (like hey maybe call their lawyer, attend their arraignment?
or take off to Canada?)

Isn't the father a diabetic and on meds for that?

I also remember the "owner" found the car. Owner of the entire warehouse? I am under the impression that Sikora only has his studio there, but I might be wrong. We may know more tomorrow after he speaks with investigators.

eta. also, Sikora said he didn't know anything until he woke up on Saturday morning. So I don't think he called it in before that.
Here’s a photo inside his studio.

If you reread my post...
My post was about Eli
the stepson who lived with Jennifer Crumbley a few months.

They did not get along according to the original post.
Jennifer Crumbley is Eli’s stepmom.

The Sheriff said Ethan is in isolation and they didn't tell him anything about his parents. Since the news conference he could have been told. He is on suicide watch, same for parents, protocol.

There is no TV in his cell I believe. TV is in common room.

Whoever his attorney is may have told him.

Who's Who?
freep.com Dec 1* article quoting Bouchard, the Oakland Co. Sheriff: "Crumbley and his parents have retained an attorney, Bouchard said...." gives impression that one atty or law firm is representing all three on crim charges, the son & parents

Even later articles give impression that both parents are repped by one law firm, Smith Lehman** (sorry no link to stories atm).
Conflict of interest?

Apologizing for posting before reading all the thread.

I haven't read beyond this post, so I apologize if it's been answered. The court addressed the potential conflict of interest in the Crumbley's arraignment on Saturday. The attorneys testified that there is no conflict, but they can't say why yet, and that they have talked to their clients about this. Both the Crumbley's agreed to the representation on the record.
Anyone have link to court files/website showing who is repping who? TiA.

So I guess this artist guy does not watch any news?
It was on local & national news that they were fugitives.
Curious to know what the Crumbleys told Mr Sikora...

Artist identified as link to James and Jennifer Crumbley hiding space in Detroit
“Mr. Sikora has not been charged with any crime. Nevertheless, upon learning of the Crumbleys’ arrest on December 4, 2021, he voluntarily contacted the Detroit Police Department and Oakland County Sheriff’s Office to provide information. He maintains his innocence throughout this process and is fully cooperating with law enforcement to assist in their investigation

About whether or not the school knew he had access to a gun: they knew he was googling about buying ammo. I imagine 99% of people who google about buying ammunition for a gun have access to a gun, it would not be an unreasonable assumption.
It's also a big hunting state and he's a high schooler. Teachers walk a fine line and I think it says a lot that the teacher reported the Google searches.
