Maybe the parents were thinking it would be a good hobby? I think Adam Lanza’s mother did something similar. Obviously, the better choice would be to rent one from a gun range (ie gun stays at the range) instead of buying & keeping it at home. Or just get him into painting or coding or piano instead. JMO.

I don’t believe EC was suicidal. He had a gun, and could have used it on himself before he gunned down his school mates. He could have used it on himself before being taken down by LE, as other school shooters have. I also don’t believe his mother texted him “Don’t do it”, because she feared he would kill himself. She knew he had a gun, and she knew exactly what he planned to do with it. It was too late. He’d already done it, and he was either too emboldened by his own act, or too cowardly, to use it on himself.

If the legal system works, now he will pay the price and never walk the streets freely again.

Around here it’s called using a gun safe if your hobby is shooting. Although most use it for hunting with practice at the outdoor range. JMO

I have two thoughts:

1. When were the worrysome pictures and phrases crossed out?
2. The fact that he did this on school work paper would make me thing that it wasn't for a video game - I would expect something like that in a notebook or something. How could any teacher or counselor believe this was for a video game? Also, which version did they see, the scratched out one or the original?

Prosecutor: Oxford school shooting suspect's mom had affair while son spiraled

6c4e52fa8a50a324c1664a5efaf435fc

The Crumbleys knew that their son was depressed and heading down a dangerous and violent path, but they ignored his "troubling" texts and other red flags, failed to get him help and paid attention to their own lives instead, including having extramarital affairs, the prosecutor disclosed in a new court filing Thursday.

"The defendants had information long before Nov. 30 (six months prior to the shooting) that their son's only friend moved at the end of October, that the family dog died, that their son was sadder than usual, and that he was sending his mother disturbing texts about his state of mind," the prosecution wrote in a Thursday court filing. "Instead of paying attention to their son and getting him help, they bought him a gun."

" ... they knew that their son was depressed, that he was fascinated with guns ... that he had been researching ammunition while at a school and that he was seen watching violent videos of shootings that morning," the prosecutor wrote in her filing. "Before they left school that day, they had also seen the disturbing drawings."

There were other signs that Ethan Crumbley needed help, prosecutors allege.

"Their son was torturing animals, even kept a baby bird's head in a jar on his bedroom floor, which he later took and placed in a school bathroom," the prosecutor's filing states. "Meanwhile, the parents were focusing on their own issues, things like extramarital affairs, financial issues and substance abuse."

Oakland County Prosecutor Karen McDonald also alleged that during this same time period, the Crumbleys spent their time at a barn caring for their horses three to four nights a week for up to three hours at a time, and "seeking other relationships, including (the) mother's extramarital affairs."

"Defendant's have already made it clear that their son's presence will not keep them here." - This is in the Prosecutor's response to the Defendant's Motion to lower bail.

Oxford school shooting suspect's mom texted son not to kill himself, defense lawyers say

When Jennifer Crumbley texted her son "Don't do it" on the day of the deadly Oxford High School shooting, she was reaching out to tell him not to kill himself, according to a new court filing.

This detail was disclosed Wednesday in a document seeking a lower bond for Jennifer and James Crumbley.

The filing in Rochester Hills District Court then cited the Jennifer Crumbley's "Don't do it" text to Ethan Crumbley that has made international headlines. The distinction could be important if the prosecution plans to use the text as evidence Jennifer Crumbley knew her son was dangerous.

Defense attorneys for the first time gave their account of how the Crumbleys felt following the shooting, and why they believe the prosecution will not be able to prove its case, specifically, that the Crumbleys knew their son would shoot up his school with a gun they had bought him as an early Christmas present.

"The prosecution will not be able to prove that the Crumbleys ... knew their son was a danger to other students, or that they knew there was a situation that required them to take care to avoid injuring another," defense attorneys Shannon Smith and Mariell Lehman wrote in the filing.

"When Mrs. Crumbley texted Ethan, 'Don't do it,' ... the shootings had already happened, Mr. Crumbley had determined the gun was missing and had notified authorities, and Mrs. Crumbley was texting her son to tell him not to kill himself," the defense states in the filing, later adding:

"They did not know Ethan was a threat to anyone; and they certainly did not anticipate or cause the tragedy that unfolded at Oxford High School."
Biggest bunch of bologna I’ve ever heard . IMO

It's a very interesting read, definitely provides additional information that had not been previously released. If I were that judge, I'd be denying the defendant's motion.

Wow..

”It is worth noting that, by maintaining that there is no conflict in joint representation and by making no distinction between themselves in the present motion, Defendants imply that they are tied to each other - that the only risk of flight is that both will lee or neither one will flee. The facts already discovered show that Defendant mother was having at least one intimate affair. When defense ‘counsel shares the explicit videos found on Defendant mother’s cell phone, it is possible, even likely, that Defendants will go separate ways.”

And then there’s this detail:

“Further, on the very date of the shooting, Defendant Jennifer Crumbley gave inconsistent statements to various individuals regarding the location and accessibility of the gun, including a claim to her boyfriend that she had it in her car.”

A baby birds head? He was already starting to be a serial murderer. What a terrible home life. We knew there was more to this story. JMOO

1.) Only friend moved away

2.) His dog died

3.) He appeared sad and depressed

4.) Sending depressing texts to his mom

5.) Torturing animals

6.) Put bird's head in school bathroom

....... BOUGHT HIM A GUN TOOK HIM TARGET PRACTICING ......

If Mrs. Crumbley was concerned her son was suicidal, why were they buying him a gun for a Christmas?
Not intending to go deep into mostly pointless psycho analysis, but.....

I have noticed that some people who are facing stresses in the area of finance , marriage, children, health etc. "re-create" themselves.

The "re-creation" can involve an new interest in politics of the intense kind (either left or right), sudden conversions to a new religion- then going fundamentalist with their new circle of friends or...... developing an interest in a potentially dangerous hobby that they purport to have mastered.

Needless to say, new found intense political interests, religious conversions, dangerous hobbies can generate attention. Attention whether negative or positive, serves a distraction from parts of life that are not going well.

And..... of the potential dangerous and therefore cool hobbies, fire arms is one of the cheapest to get into. $500.00 can buy a cool looking pistol. Meanwhile, how much do Harleys cost? The only thing as cheap as firearms is pit bulls- and I bet a good number of badly thought out pit bull purchases are for the escape and / or attention as well.

Mother was busy "re-creating" intimate relationships so it seems.
