Jennifer was the bread-winner in the family, as far as I can tell, and she was described as a person who gets things done/very action oriented. Unlike James, it seems, who didn't even have a job and couldn't be counted on to follow through on responsibilities.

With regard to the "helicopter parent" attribution, I agree neither of the parents fit that description, but there is a wide gap between "helicopter parent" and totally negligent parent.
James was doing door dash all day and sometimes nights - his log-on & delivery sheets were shown- plus the other job at the link below so he was definitely working so can we really claim she was the bread winner?
(If your partner or wife is on a lower salary or worst employment contract can we really say that their contribution is valued less?)

Beyond that we don't have enough details to look at both their work histories over time. They started off in Florida and then lived elsewhere before ending up here. Somebody on WS will perhaps be able to add more detail.

According to Jay Farr, the CEO of Advantzware, a Florida-based software company, James Crumbley was furloughed from his job as a telemarketer right after the pandemic hit.

Crumbley reportedly started working at the firm in 2017, where he worked remotely from his home in Michigan, generating sales leads.

In February of 2021, Crumbley started working at a San Francisco-based security technology company, according to his now-deleted Facebook profile.

ETA:
The father’s last employer was San Francisco-based Monarch, which provides GPS tracking to the transportation industry, a company spokesman told the Daily Beast.
James “briefly worked … as an independent contractor from February to July 2021” and “was terminated for reasons unrelated” to his son’s case, the rep told the outlet.

I am assuming he started door dashing soon after - the rest of their history is at this NYP link which has an old photo of the couple in early days

Thanks for info that verdict is in!! Anyone hear when it will be read? I thought it usually took awhile for everyone to get back to courthouse? Either way, I'm watching Live on YouTube (Fox2 Detroit) in case it's soon:

The courtroom is packed with witnesses, law enforcement, victim's families and members of the media. Jennifer Crumbley, the Judge and the Jury have not yet entered.

Guilty of involuntary manslaughter for all 4!!!

Can I change my "Hung Jury" vote? Everyone knows my opinion by now... but I predict the jury has disagreed with me.
ETA- Wrong again and pleasantly surprised (!)

guilty for involuntary manslaughter on all four counts

Doesn't the judge usually look at the verdict form first, then hand it back to be read? She just asked if they (jury) had reached a verdict, foreperson said, "yes" and the judge asked her to read it. Foreperson asked, "Um, individually?" and the judge replied, "Sure"... soooo laid back for a judge, wow.

GUILTY on all four counts of involuntary manslaughter! God bless this jury.

PONTIAC, Mich. — Jennifer Crumbley, the Michigan woman charged in connection with her son’s deadly school shooting rampage in 2021, was convicted Tuesday of involuntary manslaughter in the unprecedented case.

The unanimous verdict came on the second day of jury deliberations in a landmark trial that turned on an unusual question: Can the parent of a child who commits a mass shooting also be held criminally responsible?...

Good decision jury!

No audible response from anyone. JC just kinda hung her head a little bit and closed her eyes. Jury was polled. Judge is now thanking the jury and dismissing them.
