"We’re getting close, like I said, a lot of movement today. The search went very smooth today, worked out a lot of kinks yesterday," said Roseville Police Chief Mitch Berlin. "We got 43 officers walking across it right now."

Booker is due back in court for a probable cause conference on Jan. 22 before a preliminary exam on Jan. 29.

According to information presented in court, Booker is currently unemployed.

Booker previously served in the United States Army but was removed from the military with a less than honorable discharge after going AWOL in 2017. This happened after he was charged the year before with several crimes while serving, including larceny and possessing fake identification documents.

The rumor started circulating Wednesday (Jan. 15) night following a post from a police scanner page, but police and family say it’s not true. The search is expected to continue on Thursday.

Despite the challenge, Roseville Police Chief Mitch Berlin said on Tuesday that he believed officers were in the right spot.

"I’m confident we got a good area the waste management coordinated a good area that we’re looking," Berlin said.

On Wednesday morning, Macomb County Prosecutor Pete Lucido said the Michigan State Police crime lab is analyzing cell phone data, along with evidence that has been tracked so far in the case.

"You don't need a body to charge if you have enough tangible physical evidence," Lucido said. "I'm confident that by the end of this week, we'll have enough to make a decision either way."

Roseville Mayor Robert Taylor, a retired law enforcer, said Tuesday night he believes "there is enough evidence" for the county prosecutor to issue an arrest warrant for the prime suspect in the case

"Well, we got some objects we are taking back for processing. We're not sure if they're related to the case or not," he said Wednesday.

7 News Detroit spoke with Macomb County Prosecutor Pete Lucido multiple times this week. He said testing those undisclosed objects found at the landfill takes time. Lucido said there are also items at Elkins' ex-boyfriend's apartment that investigators are testing.

At this point, it’s not clear if the search at the Pine Tree Acres Landfill in Lenox Township will end Friday (Jan. 17) or continue.

Police recovered what they call “lookalike items” on Wednesday that could belong to Ashley, although lab testing is necessary to verify if it is evidence in this case.

Roseville Police Chief Mitch Berlin said a search party scoured a “very large area” of the nearly-700 acre Pine Tree Acres landfill in Lenox Township. The search was based on data supplied by Waste Management, which manages the trash dump on 29 Mile Road, Berlin added.

Berlin said the team worked through this past weekend “attempting to bring closure for the family.” Every officer participating in the search had volunteered to help despite the bitterly cold temperatures and faulty terrain of the dump.

"The family has learned from Roseville police that their search for Ashley’s remains at the landfill has concluded without success. Though we are disappointed in the results, we are appreciative of the efforts of more than 50 law enforcement officials and volunteers. We are requesting privacy at this time as we await a charging decision by the Macomb County Prosecutors office. Thank you everyone for your prayers and support.

Earlier this month, police said that there is a "strong possibility" that foul play is involved in this case and that it most likely occurred at the Hampton Court Apartments and that "significant evidence, including forensics," was recovered at the apartment complex.

Her ex-boyfriend, De'andre Booker, is in jail for allegedly lying to police and until any evidence surfaces that proves he's behind her disappearance or presumed murder, Macomb County Prosecutor Pete Lucido said all his office can do is wait.

"Now we're calling on the prosecutor's office to get the murder charges levied against DeAndre Booker. It's our understanding that there is still plenty of evidence in the case, so we're looking forward to those charges coming hopefully soon. Hopefully, this week,” Morton said.

"I find it insulting that Mr. Lang would indicate that this is a small charge. I believe the family of Ms. Elkins, the missing woman, would think that someone lying to the police on her whereabouts is more than a serious charge," said Macomb County Assistant Prosecutor Carmen DeFranco.

The judge decided to keep the bond as is, saying the evidence against Booker is compelling.

Judge Joseph Boedeker said that bond was high for the charge, but also noted that the court, including the judge who originally set the $250,000 bond, is cognizant of the facts of the case. Because of this, he declined the request to amend the bond.

Booker will be back in court on Feb. 5 for a probable cause conference and Feb. 26 for a preliminary exam.

I understand the family’s urgency, but given that he’s sitting in jail on $250,000 bond on a lesser charge right now, I think law enforcement and the DAs office should take the time they need to ensure they have the strongest case possible. They can always reassess if he makes bail or if bond eventually ends up being lowered for some reason.

On Saturday a candlelight vigil will be held for Elkins. The vigil will be held where Elkins was last seen, which was her ex-boyfriend’s apartment complex, located at 26069 Pinehurst in Roseville.

Meanwhile, a [FUNDRAISER] has been set up for Ashley Elkins’ two young sons.

Now, nearly four weeks since her disappearance, Elkins' younger son still doesn't understand why she isn't home.

"He's still asking for her," Elkins' mother Monika Elkins tells PEOPLE. "[We] came back from the vigil, he [said] 'Is mom coming out? Is she, is she gonna call?'

Her older son, who is 10, is having difficulty processing her disappearance.

"He cries every day. He has nightmares," Morton says. "It's been very difficult for both of them in different ways."
