MI - Bianca Jones, 2, Detroit, 2 Dec 2011 - #4 - *D. Lane guilty*

Isn't that just ridiculous? Loads of parents have to call 911 daily in the most horrific circumstances imaginable. They get the job done! The ones that are "too distraught" are typically going for an Academy Award. MOO.

And so do little kids. Tiny.little.kids. How many times do we read about a preschool age child that is able to call 911 and clearly help their parent or family member? Yet the defense contends it is reasonable for a grown man to turn into a wet noodle unable to respond appropriately when his 24 month old child is kidnapped by car jackers. riiight.

OK. We know that the carjacking tale is total fabrication, but what information would D'Andre be trying to get from the (imaginary) perps that was more important than calling 9-1-1 for immediate HELP? :waitasec:

I think JW meant he was trying to get more information out of DL and couldn't, just as Bianca's grandmother could not get more information out of DL. At least that is how I read it.

  • #923
No, I think it means that Jerry Weaver ( I assume it's the grandmother's husband?) was trying to get information from Deandre Lane.

Without punctuation and/or quotes, comments are subject to interpretation. I thought that the speaker was talking about what DL had told him.

Does court resume Monday or Tuesday with Monday being Columbus day, anyone know?

"Bianca's grandmother also took the stand Wednesday to tell the jury how frustrated she was trying to get information from Lane about his reported carjacking. "I kept asking him questions", said Lilia Jones-Weaver. I couldn't get nothing out of him".

As Jones-Weaver was leaving the courtroom, she slowed down and leaned over to Lane and whispered "Where is she? Tell me where she is." The defense team stood up to alert the judge and Jones-Weaver appeared to be crying as she was quickly escorted out of the courtroom.

Once again a situation where the body will likely never be found...just like Baby Gabriel Johnson. At least they had enough to try this poor excuse for a man for murder. I feel so sorry Bianca's grandmother. She will never have the peace of being able to put her granddaughter to rest properly.

Given that there is no mail delivery tomorrow, banks and municipal buildings are closed, I think it's safe to say that Courts will not be in session.

DH is on his way to the Tiger game. It's a bit nippy today (47* at gametime), so I'm not too disappointed to not be going, too.

I haven't found any media mention of the trial continuing today. WDIV is currently livestreaming coverage of the Sandusky sentencing.

Texas mom awaits sentence for beating toddler

Elizabeth Escalona pleaded guilty in July to first-degree injury to a child

(CNN) -
A Texas mother of five is expected to be sentenced Tuesday after admitting to gluing her 2-year-old daughter to a wall and beating her over potty training.

Elizabeth Escalona, 23, was in a Dallas County, Texas, court Monday as witnesses -- including her mother and the pediatrician who cared for the toddler -- testified in the first day of her sentencing hearing, while prosecutors showed pictures of the little girl's hands and bruised body and forehead.

"The entire picture was very shocking," said Dr. Amy Barton, then a child abuse pediatrician at Children's Medical Center of Dallas, choking back tears on the stand. "I see a lot of children, and this was one of the most shocking cases that I have seen."

Prosecutors are asking Escalona be incarcerated for 45 years, so she will not cause any more harm to her children, Denmon said.

We need a guilty verdict so D'Andre can not cause any more harm to his children.

I looked and couldn't find any new MSM on the trial. Anyone else with any luck finding anything?

I wonder how close we are to closing arguments? The reporting on this trial is very spotty so really not sure how close they are to finishing up.
I imagine it soon, they said about 2 weeks on September 19. It's a little more than 2 weeks now, but lots of days off and delays. MSM catch us up please!

Detroit — D'Andre Lane was tearful Tuesday as a Detroit Police officer detailed a December encounter with a child resembling his toddler daughter, more than a week after the girl went missing and was presumed dead.

Gibbs conceded to prosecutors during cross examination that she didn't return to the home, contact prosecutors or Lane's attorney with the information.

Definately worth the read because it appears this LEO make the connection between the little girl she saw in the house and Bianca by something she saw on the internet when searching for a plumber. She apparently did not make the connection when the girl was right in front of her.

Also, the above article indicates closing arguments start tomorrow Wednesday and Lane declined to take the stand in his defense.

WWJ radio reporting that closing arguments will be made today in the D'Andre Lane case.

  • #931
I really hope the prosecution pounds in that this LEO did not believe this child was Bianca when the child was in front of her. I'd guess DL believes this LEO is his saving grace.

Praying the jury gets it right and hoping for a bit more media coverage today.

On cross-examination, prosecutors pointed out to Gibbs that it had been determined the child she thought may have been Bianca, actually belonged to someone else.

So it appears they did not blow off the tip. It was investigated and determined the child was not Bianca. This LEO likely felt she was blown off because as patrol, she was not included in the intricate details being handled by homicide. Two different departments and I am sure they don't share every detail of every investigation or traffic stop with every LEO in Detroit.

Also from the above link:

The defense only called two witnesses. The other was also a Detroit Police Officer. Officer Oscar Garza testified that his tracking dog picked up a human scent about fifteen feet away from Lane's vehicle and that it led them to a vacant apartment building where a black ski mask was also discovered

A black ski mask, huh? In a vacant building. I'd think the jury would dismiss that entirely as trash in a vacant building as there are many in Detroit, unless a tie between DNA on the mask and DNA in the car could be found. That apparently did not happen.

:please:Praying the jury get's it right! If they do, maybe DL will try and plea on sentencing by revealing the location of Bianca's remains.

I too hope that the jury gets this one right. It broke my heart when his 8 year old daughter testified that he became so upset when she wet herself that he stuffed her wet panties in her mouth. He needs to be removed from the home and have no responsibility for the care of children. Ever again.

:furious:

I apologize if this has been discussed before, but has anyone had any thoughts on whether the teenage nephew actually assisted in the disposal of Bianca's body? It seems a bit much to believe that a teenager wouldn't know the difference between a live person and a deceased person when DL brought her out of the bedroom the next morning. There was the inconsistency in his statements (at first he said he saw her yawn, and then later said she just looked at him). Or is he just covering for DL?

Is there any info that the nephew's whereabouts were verified (ie, he was actually dropped off at school), and if the daughter was dropped off first?

  • #935
There hasn't been any info that I have seen that indicates verification the nephew arrived at school. I believe he was dropped off because it would be too easy to verify whether or not the kid was truant for school.

A friend of DL's, who testified, stated he saw DL at a certain time which Bianca should have been with him and no children where with DL.

Thanks Cubby. I thought the same thing - it would be easy to verify if he was truant from school. At the same time it just bothers me that a teenager wouldn't notice if the little girl were dead or alive JMHO.

It's frustrating the lack of information on this particular case. Nothing like the Caylee Anthony case where it was information overload.

I agree the lack of information on this case is frustrating! Especially for me after having just followed the Drew Peterson trial. What a difference. I really thought this case would have received more media attention considering how unrealistic DL's story is.

Officer Tanika Gibbs said Tuesday in court that she saw a child Dec. 10 at a home on Houghton — where Hall lives — with the same distinctive hairstyle as Bianca. She didn't put the connection together until two days later, when she saw a photograph of the missing child on the Internet.

The officer testified that she reported the alleged sighting to two homicide sergeants, a television news reporter and sent an email to the FBI.

Gibbs said nothing ever came of the tip and she did not return to the house, nor did she tell prosecutors or Lane's attorney.

Hall testified Wednesday that the little girl Gibbs saw was her then 2-year-old granddaughter, not Bianca. Hall also produced a photo of the child Wednesday in court.
