Detroit police say the abduction of Deontae Mitchell was all over about $75.

New details of the investigation allege 45-year-old Gregory Walker put Deontae in his car after the 13-year-old and his cousin picked up the money that was dropped by a man outside of Nino's Market Tuesday night.

Walker, police say, then picked up his girlfriend and drove around with Deontae searching for the cousin. At some point during the night, the suspect allegedly dropped his girlfriend off.

Witnesses told police the suspect appeared drunk and was waving his gun around. Later in the evening, police say another person drove both Walker and his girlfriend to Toledo where they were found and arrested this morning.

duffle bag boys.

This has been an ongoing trend for the last few years, the older drug dealers/pushers use the younger kids under the age of 17 to peddle dope for them. The reason being that if the young kids get caught with the drugs, it's pretty much a slap on the wrist and no long term incarceration. Where as anybody over the age of 18 caught peddling out on the street may well get a trip to the big house for a few years, especially if it is a repeat offender. Kids this age , 11-13, may not get much more than a good talking to and be taken home to their parents after forfeiting the crack , meth, coke , or whatever they're trying to sell.

This tactic works out great for the drug dealer because they never actually have any drugs on their person, therefore they never have to be worried about a shakedown out on the street by the local P.D.. It's a pretty cowardly way to sell drugs, and they depend on the naivety and hunger for easy money by the younger kids in order to run their business. Unfortunately, if one of the kids is caught skimming, stealing or using, their age isn't a factor and they are dealt with in pretty harsh terms. After watching the video and seeing how he pretty much manhandled the kid into his car without much resistance, I was pretty much left with the impression that the two of them knew one another. The perp slammed the car door closed and walked around to the other side and it didn't appear that Deontae made any effort to try and escape the vehicle.

What role do the two guys pictured play in this ? The guy that pushed him into the car is already in custody, right ?

Guy with gun who pushed DM into car and a woman are in custody. Since that vehicle was abandoned (located elsewhere), I figure the other two men picked up supect and woman and drove them to Toledo. Plenty of LE searching for these two guys. Hopefully, they'll be in custody later today.

I don't know whether or not they were. he didn't deserve it either way, so terrible. he must have been so afraid for himself and his cousin.

No problem. I agree with you. I don't see duffle bag boys either. But can't use your source for why you feel that way.

I just can't . . .

I am with the sheriff. I am angry. Particularly in the cases of Crimes against Children, people need to speak. People need to say what they know and what they see.

I watched that surveillance video of D being pulled into that car and there were several other adults in the area who saw it happening. Not a one of them even so much as blinked.

Shameful.

Policing a community does not start with the police. It starts with the residents. Without that cooperation police cannot effectively protect and serve. It really is that danged simple.

Right ! Maybe he's well known in the community as a dangerous guy ? If no one will speak up for kids, what have we become? If you want to play the drug and crime game, go ahead but leave the children out of it.

ETA If we abandon the children , our society will fall and rightly so. This is the end, I'm afraid.

I understand your anger.
However I'm sure if someone intervene there would be more fatalities/injuries.
I want to come home to my kids. I'm sure that's cowardly. An alive coward.

Surveillance video in Deontae Mitchell abduction

Holly Fournier and George Hunter, The Detroit News 2:23 p.m. EDT June 2, 2016

The family of 13-year-old Deontae Mitchell, who was found dead early Thursday in an east side Detroit field, said the boy "had a huge heart," loved his mother and was destined for success.

The boy's bright future was cut short after he was snatched from the street late Tuesday outside Nino’s Market at 15901 E. Warren, less than five miles from where his body was found two days later near Harper and Baldwin.

"Deontae was different," said Ernest McFadden, the father of the boy's older brothers. "He was joyful. He was going to be something different than all the other kids."

A spokesman with the medical examiner confirmed the identification Thursday. An autopsy is scheduled for Friday to determine the cause of death.

Deontae was "the baby of the family" with two older brothers and an older sister, McFadden said. He was a bright kid who loved school and followed the rules.

"He believed in God. He believed in something better than everything going on in the world today," McFadden said. "He believed in people, too. I guess that’s where he made his mistake." ...
