I would hope that LE did a thorough inspection of his vehicle and area of the karate studio... I had a thought that perhaps he was trying to dump more pics?

Sounds like he may have been avoiding cutting to the chase for two years with LE, never cooperating completely. You don't see his behavior as having been suspicious as Julia's grandmother states, or his run to the karate studio when LE showed up with search warrants, or hiring a lawyer instead of being upfront with LE? If I'm not mistaken, I think he was being investigated for the charges he has now been arrested for a couple of months before Julia's homicide, over two years ago, which seems to point to some sort of motive on his part potentially, which seems to me kind of strange if true.

The charges for child porn were filed in Monroe and then he was announced as a person of interest in Julia's homicide by Yasplanti LE? Do I understand correctly?

My guess is that Monroe County Sheriff, Ypsilanti PD, Eastern Michigan University (campus PD), Washtenaw County Sheriff, and possibly Michigan State Police have all contributed to the investigation into Julia Niswender's homicide. I can't be certain, of course, but I think these law enforcement agencies are working in tandem to resolve the murder. :moo:

I cannot help but think LE has just been itching to interrogate him, and they have been working an angle to force him to cooperate...or try to.

So thinking about this, who, besides himself, would JT be compelled to protect IF he does know more about Julia's death?

This is what I cannot wrap my brain around.

LE does not arrest for the random pop up scenarios. They arrest for significant possession and distribution. This guy is no novice, and no doubt has ties to a much larger "eco-system" of offenders. There will be much more to follow on this one....

If there is ample evidence of child porn possession, why leave this guy where he
potentially could harm children. The arrest may just be a way to put him and the family
under pressure in the hope that someone will confess or speak up.

It might have taken them that long to retrieve and track all of his travels on the internet. That said, nothing is ever erased forever from the internet. Criminals have all sorts of software they use to try and encrypt/scramble communications, and dust the trail of breadcrumbs they leave. Doesn't happen. LE figured that stuff out long ago. As a matter of fact, when they encounter these technologies, they know they are on to someone who has something to hide.

That I do not know. I can tell you that he did not have social media - and was not / is not someone who would discuss his or his family's private life like other's were. He is/was what I would call a "private" man.

Yes, well as it has recently been revealed, he allegedly has good reason for being a "private" man. Shudder....
And for any innocent souls on this thread, when LE refers to child porn, they aren't just talking about pictures of children unclad. So anyone who has the inclination to defend his "good character" might want to understand a bit more of what he is being accused of, related to that charge.

I do not recall this ever being reported. He instagram account and her mom stated in one article I read, that she lost a close male friend in an automobile accident a few weeks before she died.

I agree 100%. I think much more will be revealed, and I am speculating this was no small bust. He is probably a distributor of a much larger network, most likely with international ties. Maybe even human trafficking. SPECULATION ONLY.

Agreed! ^^^ definitely not taken lightly. Today I received an email from my school district informing me that a man who has been a substitute teacher in MANY of the SD's elementary schools was arrested due to child porn. They advised they were taking full measures & working closely with LE. The letter advised any parents who believe their child may have been targeted by this man to contact the "public schools risk manager".
I was mortified & also very thankful to know my children have never encountered this individual. I also couldn't help but think, if I had ANY question that this may not be the case- I'd be contacting LE 1st.
Just an observation.

Jmo, but I have a hard time believing that after two years of silence, LE would name her stepfather, of all people, as a POI, if not for some pretty good evidence.

Has anyone been to the martial arts studio where JT taught? I'd guess there are locker rooms, or at the very least a changing area, in the facility. Would adults (and/or instructors) use the same locker rooms/changing areas? Surveillance cameras? I can't help thinking that the photos on JT's computer might have been taken at the martial arts studio.

This is a troubling article. DHS tried to have the 12 yr. old daughter removed from the home. She did spend the weekend with other relatives.

Previous allegations of abuse (physical) by stepfather were apparently investigated in 2000, but went nowhere. Jennifer says they did not happen, "she would remember something like that"

There is/was certainly SOMETHING going on for Child Protective Services to be called in back in 2000. Whether it be false or true, someone felt inclined to make the call. I feel bad that a family's "dirty laundry" is being aired in the media, however, "abuse" of a child (any kind) will typically fall upon a milder mannered, self conscious child than one who is outwardly confident or outspoken.

My thoughts keep going back to the possibility that something happened between JT and Julia, which someone perceived to be "abusive". That being said, and if publicly accused would impact lives of others exponentially.

Clearly there was something that drove Julia out of the family home, what that something is, we may never fully know.
