CALLING ALL MICHIGAN WEBSLEUTHERS!
I contacted my state representative and asked about the possibility of drafting leglisation that would require harsher sentences and no parole for sex offenders.
I am going to meet with her to discuss ways to achieve these goals. It would be great if we could form a lobby group to help push this agenda.
If anyone is interested, please PM me.

Is it with Stabenow? If soo, let me know,,,I have history with Debbie, she's a great person. Very down to earth and easy to talk to.

I googled mapped the area. Very rural, dirt road areas with lots of farms and fields - hate to say it but difinately looks like an area where someone might dump a body . . . hope to God that's not the case here.

FBI Searching River Raisin For Girl
Kennedy Speaks Out To Toledo Paper
POSTED: Thursday, June 4, 2009
UPDATED: 6:15 pm EDT June 4, 2009
<snipped>
Acting off a tip, the FBI searched the River Raisin in Raisinville Township Thursday for a missing 5-year-old Monroe girl.

Sky 4 was over the scene at near Ida Maybee and Dixon roads as agents were seen combing the area.

The new area of searching comes on the same day as a man previously identified by police as a person of interest in the disappearance of the girl, Neveah Buchanan, said he is innocent and doesn't know where she is.

He said after his friend Jennifer Buchanan told him her daughter was missing he drove with his girlfriend, Savannah Gray, to Nevaeh's preschool and continued to search other areas.

"We went to certain areas that I thought she could be," Kennedy said.

I am furious that person of interest GK ,a registered SO, served only 33% of his sentence for the rape of a 13 year old girl. WTH!
I implore everyone to call your state reps and senators (Levin or Stabenow for Michigan readers) and lobby for harsher sentences and NO PAROLE for sex offenders.

I would like to clarify something. Michigan employs sentencing guidelines in order to ensure that sentences are proportionate and consistent amongst Judges and Defendants. The scoring is based on variables that change according to offense category (i.e. crimes against a person, crimes against property, etc) called Offense Variables, and variables that score the person's prior contact with LE, called Prior Records Variables. This scoring results in 2 numbers, which are then plugged into the appropriate grid, which determines the possible range of sentences for the Defendant. There are increases built into the grids for Habitual Offender status, which would be part of an Defendant's charge, if appropriate.

GK was sentenced to 2-15, which means that the minimum was 2 and the maximum was 15. He served five years, which means that he more than completed his sentence. He was not sentenced to 15 years and only served five. Her served three years over the minimum and then was placed on parole, per the decision of the Department of Corrections.

According to reports, there is extremely tight security. The news media have been ordered to stay at least two miles away from where the road blocks have been staged. News helicopters will be ordered to clear the air space.

Thanks for the info.I wondered how that worked. It seemed to me like the judges just pulled numbers from a hat. However I still think 5 years is too little for the rape of a 13 year old.
