The mother has been in custody since yesterday.

Police say the woman was taken into custody on January 31. That same day investigators executed two search warrants - one in the 22000 block of Rosedale and the other in the 23000 block of Gary Lane in St. Clair Shores.

The surveillance photos from the BP gas station in the area, on Fred Moore Highway east of Interstate-94, showed a heavy-set, middle-aged woman and a gray SUV, a GMC Jimmy or Chevy Trailblazer, police said.

The “assistance of citizens following media reports” led police to identify the person in the photos, police said.

It appears it is the same person, but the article is not making that distinction.

Wow, this is crazy. And the woman in the video did not look like an overweight 60 year old; she looked like a thin 40-something wearing a bulky jacket. But presumably they didn't have a hard time tracking her down so this discrepancy with the way she looks on video isn't exactly going to keep me awake at night.

I wonder if this will turn out to have mental illness as a component for one or both of them. We've seen a lot of people lately having to kill their own mentally ill adult children (that senator, and the police officer a few days ago (adult son went crazy and killed his mother)). But the dismemberment and scattering speaks to something deeper than self-defense.

I have friends that live on one of the streets where the warrant was executed...mind blown. After a bunch of digging, I think I figured out the names of the persons involved. Crazy sad

On January 26, 2014 the St. Clair Shores Police Department had received a report of a missing 32 year-old white male. On January 30, 2014 at approximately 3:00PM, the St. Clair County Sheriff's Office responded to report of dismembered human remains that had been discarded in trash bags in the area of Allington and Fred Moore Highway in St. Clair Township. The discarded remains were investigated and processed by investigators from the St. Clair County Sheriff's Office with assistance from the Michigan State Police Crime Lab.

I wonder who reported him missing.

In the video a neighbor calls her "Miss Donna" and a reporter makes mention that the son had a known mental illness. No matter what, it takes a depraved human to dissect another and toss it out, more so when that human carried said victim for 9 months and birthed him!

Yeah. I didn't watch the video, but did we get the sense his issues were severe enough that he didn't have a girlfriend or job? Those were the first two things that came to mind as far as who reported him.

Thanks for the reporting everyone. I'm still not sure the woman in the video matches the description of the woman arrested, waiting for the mug shot.

Didn't think it would take too long for an ID or arrest, she was pretty sloppy in her crime. Yes I can't wait for this one to play out either.

Gonna be tough to explain this one.
