murder investigation is ongoing
Thanks so much for posting this! Here's my attempt at a summary for those unable to watch:
- Will the booking photo be available today? Will check w/support service staff, don't see why not.
- DS taken into custody on 31/Jan, executed 2 search warrants re:suspected homicide and dismemberment
- Prelim. exam set for 14/Feb @ 0830, charges brought are not the end of the case, working diligently on ongoing murder investigation
- Autopsy is not complete, still awaiting test results
- Why is there no murder charge? Still an investigation at this time, 72h clock once defendant was brought in for an arraignment, had to file charges on what they could prove, plan to bring more charges later once they could prove
- Involvement of any others? Won't speculate
- Have all the body parts been found? Ongoing investigation, waiting on toxicology and more reports, won't comment on any specifics
- Can COD be established? Can't comment, ME's call, ME has not established at this time pending additional tests
- Can time of death be determined? Not as of yet (although one of the men started to say "approximately..." and was cut off by the other with that answer)
- Blood evidence in the Blazer? Won't go into a lot of details, being analyzed by state crime lab
- DS's past criminal history? Retail fraud, not relevant to this case
- Did DS "lawyer up" and not speak? Is she cooperating? Can't go into details on interview
- Relationship between mother and son? Never assault history between two parties, but has been police contact re:loud noise, disorderly complaints at Gary lane house - won't discuss who filed reports
- Re: guardianship? Son was functioning at residence on Gary Lane, he was cognitively intact enough to take care of himself and have a business, no indication of current guardianship, mother moved in due to renovations at her house; not at liberty to discuss court documents re:guardianship in 2013
- Is father's death in May a factor? Had negative impact on family
- Motive established? Not able to comment at this time
- Mother's background? Was a nurse at some point in time, TBD whether she was currently practicing as a nurse
- Appearance of son's home? Bleach in home? Visually appeared normal, cannot comment further
- Missing person's report - were police suspicious of claims? Won't comment
- How many bags were found? Won't refer to them as bags, will call them crime scenes. No changes from Friday AM - 3 scenes in St Clair Township, 1 scene in China Township, 1 scene on I-94 ramp -- won't specify number of bags
- Have a lot of work to do to put things together, appreciate patience re:detailed evidence, will provide once they are in a position to do so and prosecutor's office ok's it
- Anticipate additional charges this week? No timeline, awaiting a lot of tests and additional investigative work
- Was RS suicidal? Not commenting, treating as suspicious death, would not specify whether treating as a homicide, being guarded at this time, "suspicious death" is not a downgrade, not a natural death
- Any reason to believe DS had psychiatric issues? Standard procedure for psych eval due to nature of crime, standard procedure to do drug/alcohol tests also
- Any poisoning, trauma, etc. before dismemberment? ME not confident making a determination until tests return, won't comment on whether there were bullet wounds or other trauma
- Can you speak as to the dumping being done so publicly? Asking for conjecture they can't provide
- Believe that DS killed her son? Not comfortable making that call with current evidence
- Where is DS being held? - Macomb County jail, was moved after arraignment, St Clair county doesn't have the same facilities for females
- Charges in Macomb County, will there be charges in St Clair county? Ongoing investigation
- Is DS on suicide watch? Must ask Macomb County
